Mr Obama will arrive in India on Saturday for the first leg of an Asian tour.
But as well as the usual security measures that come with welcoming a a visiting dignitary, Indian authorities have decided to go one step further, by removing all natural threats to the president as well. All coconuts around the city’s Gandhi museum, one of Mr Obama’s stops in the city, are being taken down.
Mani Bhavan, where Mahatma Gandhi stayed during his freedom struggle against the British, is among five places the US president is visiting in Mumbai. “We told the authorities to remove the dry coconuts from trees near the building. Why take a chance?” Mani Bhavan’s executive secretary, Meghshyam Ajgaonkar, told the BBC. Last week American security officers inspected Mani Bhavan and its surroundings along with other places the president is likely to visit.
Every year in India people are injured or even killed by falling coconuts. Mr Obama, still smarting from heavy losses in the midterm elections, will visit India, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan and China on the 10-day tour.
What are the odds? Actually this is pretty routine for resorts in “killer” coconut palm infested areas.
All resorts remove old coconuts because they fell and kill/hurt people. I used to live in place with crap load of coconut trees. There are a lot of kids around and adult will remove all the brown ones just in case they fall.
Last thing they want is dried up coconut fell on American President head or any American for that matter.
If support the constitution then follow it, not just when it’s convenient.

The difference is that writer was praising Mrs Obama’s behind because it is a racial feature of some south African blacks (despite Pencil Dick’s claim to say so makes me a racist – search for Sarah Bartman) while Pencil was being [eronally derogatory despite his subsequent scramble to claim it was satire. There was nothing ironic nor satiric about his comment. Just ignorant racism.
Coconuts are dangerous but so are skyscrapers. So, it is reported, the US military will construct a kilometer long above ground tunnel so Obama can visit the Gandhi Museum. Who says Obama is elitist? One could claim that his security team makes these decisions and he’s not responsible but that would be admitting he’s not in charge – let alone control!

They would have had a crew removing coconuts at the resorts Obama or no Obama. The locals stay out from in under them.
