Didn’t hear the podcast, yet (will do though, but I am guessing it was done by China as a strategic currency war game against Japan due to the disputed Island incident. Result: Japanese exporters get hurt by the lower value of the dollar against the Yen.

Yes, the dollar goes up and down. The stock market goes up and down. Not much rhyme or reason to either. Though there is some rhythm, albeit, a syncopated one.
Not gold though, gold ONLY goes up.
