Readers of DU should already know this, but it’s interesting anyway.

    “…Slippery slope…”

The point of the discussion is how to increase production of ‘advanced technologies’ (i.e. solar technology etc.) in America. One extra industry is an increase. This is just a theoretical argument kicked-off by the video. Slippery slope suggests a swing from one extreme to the other which I guess we both agree is usually a bad thing.

When I was a child my opinion of Churchill conformed with the historical hero caricature we have been given. I later learned that although his contributions to moral in WWII were important Churchill was also an elitist (birth elite not actual talent elite) military bungler (Gallipoli) and eugenics (First International Eugenics Congress) who was (like Clinton) also quite an good orator. I would suggest he is one of many excellent arguments for why democracies are always preferable.

    RE: Churchill’s military bungling
Don’t forget the botched invasion of the Baltics during WWII that failed in part due to his meddling. He was a great orator, excellent at inspiring his people and one of the first to recognize the importance of intelligence and code breaking to the overall war effort but he was definitely far from perfect. Still, great for sound bites 🙂

    OK,
back in the 70’s we had a problem with pollution..
Corps figured out that we could SHIP the major manufacturing OUT of the USA.

    ROB peter to pay Paul?

DID we cut pollution, only to ADD it BACK INTO the USA? as the end product?

    Ask Bhopal, india..

NOW, until you can advance TECH to do the thing WE WANT…or at least TELL THEM WE WANT, they will ship SOME problems over seas.

    But, what is the PROBLEMS??
Corps found out it was CHEAPER and loved it OVER SEAS.
Production prices IN THE USA have not gone up, in over 20 years…Automation has done that.

Dont look at Production or manufacturing..
    LOOK AT WAGES..
In 20 years, wages at the top went BOOM..
Wages at the bottom, STAYED THE SAME, or didnt go up, very much.. ALSO..TOP wages at the bottom DIDNT GO UP.
