Two Comedy Central funnymen are apparently entering into the partisan political fray with rallies of their own in the nation’s capital.

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have set October 30 as the date for their respective rallies.

On Thursday night’s airing of “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart,” the comedian announced plans for a “Rally to Restore Sanity.”

“See you October 30 on the National Mall to spread the timeless message, ‘Take it down a notch for America,’ ” he said.
Stewart dubbed the event a “clarion call for rationality…”

On “The Colbert Report,” which airs immediately after Stewart’s show, Colbert fired back with plans for his “March to Keep Fear Alive.”

“Now is not the time to take it down a notch. Now is the time for all good men to freak out for freedom,” Colbert said…

The announcements come less than three weeks after conservative talk-show host Glenn Beck hosted a much-publicized “Restoring Honor” rally on the National Mall, urging large crowds to “turn back to God” and return America to the values on which it was founded.

Stewart first publicly floated the idea of a counter-rally in a profile in the September 12 edition of New York magazine. “Maybe we would do a ‘March of the Reasonable,’ on a date of no particular significance,” Stewart says in the article.

The website logos and icons created for the Colbert and Stewart rallies mimic Beck’s, using identical typography and similar stylized images.

“We’re looking for the people who think shouting is annoying, counterproductive, and terrible for your throat; who feel that the loudest voices shouldn’t be the only ones that get heard,” the website for the “Rally to Restore Sanity” says.

The “March to Keep Fear Alive” site takes a more alarmist approach: “Never forget — ‘Reason’ is just one letter away from ‘Treason.’ Coincidence? Reasonable people would say it is, but America can’t afford to take that chance.”

I doubt the Tea Party types will take well to being laughed at.

The laughter and chuckles slipping from “respectable” media types rarely gets up to the level of courage and insight, simply smugness. Stewart and Colbert are capable of so much more. A fact obviously appreciated by the millions of Americans who appreciate their humor.

    #31 “They should rally for Obama’s values…”

You forgot the “Nightmare Act” giving free collage and automatic citizenship to our south of the border guests.

and when you can’t tell the difference between:

    1- Satire
    2- Imitation
    3- Flattery

you demonstrate an inability to think and nothing but weeds.

#27–Olo==you did all that anyone could. Very succinct and accurate.

  3. deowll says:

#23 You just did two things wrong. You told a lie, not to be confused with making a mistake, and you committed slander.

Beck wanted and got one of the most well behaved “we love American and Americans” brotherly love get political rallies in history. They just about left the place manicured. A wide swath of ethnic groups showed up and were made to feel welcome. I still don’t see how any group could pull that off. The odds say there should have been few rotten apples show up even if they were progressives in drag.

All I can figure is the real tea party crowd are a cut above the common run.

The only hate mongers connected with that rally are you and your friends and while you and they have sprayed plenty of venom you weren’t actually there.

Sad to say being a world class slanderer and professional hater is what I have very reluctantly come to expect of so called progressives and liberals.

I do agree that there are conservatives that are as venomous as the better known liberals and progressives but they don’t seem to carry any weight with the tea party crowd either though some of them are now trying to _claim_ they do. They are still being ignored by the tea party crowd because they don’t fit in.

  4. runs with scissors says:

” automatic citizenship to our south of the border guests”.???

why are you bringing up Reagan?

“The list is long, everything the majority of citizens hate, is promoted by” well I felt Bush for 8 years there but I was just as wrong then as you are now.

“clarion call for rationality…” sounds like a good idea

  5. N. M. Obama says:

If Barack were pro-American people wouldn’t have gotten so stirred up.

  6. bobbo, we think with words, and flower with ideas. says:

#38–do-ill==you say: “Sad to say being a world class slanderer and professional hater is what I have very reluctantly come to expect of so called progressives and liberals. /// How long did you fight this reluctancy?

Ha, Ha. Childlike in their simplistic world, sheeple reveal just the opposite about themselves that they wish to hide.

Say Do-ill, you imply you were at the rally? How much of the crowd do you estimate you could observe?

    Stoopid Human.

  7. deowll says:

#41 For years. I observed what prominent or at least conspicuous progressives did and said. Their behavior did not meet the standard to be anyone I admired or would wish to emulate. They proclaimed themselves to be champions of justice while acting unjustly.

I wish to apologize to group. While I still believe I spoke the truth there is little need to bluntly say it. I believe most people of wit are doing a more than adequate job of figuring this out and there were better ways for me to make my point.

Good day and may God/Allah/the fates bless and keep you.

  8. bobbo, we think with words, and flower with ideas. says:

#42–do-ill==while your hate for your fellow man actually did show thru, that isn’t the main revelation. I could lead you to the water, but I’ll let you quench your thirst as you may choose.

So, easy to Google “Glenn Beck Rally” and find a few You tubes: eg http://youtube.com/watch?v=ht8PmEjxUfg

I wanted to hear GB himself, but how much time would that really be worth? “We want our country back!” What could that every mean in a totally white crowd???? “He’s (Obama) is a Muslim “at heart.”==Ha, ha. The teabaggers are becoming sophists.

I don’t think Brownian Motion accounts for a crowd. Must be some kind of organizing principle at work beyond the principal?

Sadly, I wonder if all the teabag loons were removed from society ((given their own moon somewhere and allowed to move there voluntarily with promises of individual freedom and guns?)) would society get any better or would the remaining simply fracture into further delineated groups?

    Silly Hoomans.

  9. Mextli says:

#42 “Their behavior did not meet the standard to be anyone I admired or would wish to emulate.”

No need to apologize for the truth. Here is an excerpt from a CNN article by Ruben Navarrette, Jr. that, I think, describes behavior no one would wish to emulate and is al too typical.

“Reid ought to tell the story right and just admit that it was he and other Senate Democrats — including a certain Illinois freshman senator who went on to bigger and better things — who killed immigration reform at the behest of organized labor, because union leaders opposed any compromise that included guest workers.

In fact, Democrats pulled this stunt twice — once in 2006 when they were in the minority and again in 2007 when they controlled both houses.”

    http://cnn.com/2010/OPINION/09/16/navarrette.dream.act/index.html

  10. bobbo, we think with words, and flower with ideas. says:

Mextli==in a country with 20 Million Illegal Immigrants, with tax credits for jobs shipped overseas, with over 15 different active Work Visa Programs, a declining middle class, unemployment on the upcurve ((at THAT time, not simply now)) why wouldn’t ANY REASONABLE PERSON be against additional “guest workers” which is a PUKE euphemism for “underpaid wage slave?” Much less a fricken labor organizer???

Voting against your own self interest again==or are you in that top 4% of income/wealth imagining your are headed for the top 2%?

    Ha, Ha—-stoopid Human.

  11. shooff says:

    Hey Alfred (#32)

We are flying in from rural Utah for this one.

We are so sick of living in the most conservative state that taxes the sh** out of everything. Good GOP guys here. I

If any Dem or Moderate wants to beat them all they have to claim is Romney, Beck believe you are going to hell for drinking coffee. And they do believe that

Hell they used to scare people in temple weddings by dressing up a fake1 Catholic priest and telling the newly married he’s Satan.

Gay Marriage ban, thats only the beginning. No coffee, only 3.2 beer, no booze or wine at the grocery. 3 hours at Church every Sunday. 10% of your income to your Church like Germany.

Remember Beck is anti-tax because temple worthy Mormons have to pay 10% of Gross income (line 36) to the LDS church.

The good news is the LSD girls divorce at 30 and are smoking hot, undereducated and horny. Hopefully all the LDS will move to DC and leave Utah to the competent.

  12. MikeN says:

Who’s Traaxx? I’m guessing that’s a poster on this site, not sure what it has to do with my comment.

  13. pcsmith says:

    I heard big of talk.

So are YOU going(even just in spirit), or not?

  14. SimonSezz says:

Glenn Beck and Colbert have a similar number of viewers so it will be interesting to see how many come out to the “satirical” event.

Ed Schultz is also doing a political event in D.C. in October and he’s trying to beat Beck’s 300,000. I think this is funny, everyone trying to beat Beck’s numbers. Do you guys remember the anti-Iraq war protests in 2003? I remember in Chicago the protest consisted of 500,000 to 700,000 people and that same year they had protests in D.C., Los Angeles, and all over the globe with three million people in Rome protesting. Did anyone care? The news channels barely even mentioned it. Now Beck gets the “front page” for doing a rally with 300,000 people. It’s a funny world we live in. Meanwhile soldiers are still dying in the Middle East. It looks like this will be the worst year for solder deaths in Afghanistan so far. If Russia couldn’t do it then I don’t think we will be able to. Russia’s military was better trained for that environment than our troops.

  15. TheMAXX says:

Alfred Persson: there are only 3 things on your list which are not smart things to do. Even when you try to spew propaganda you mostly list good things Obama should be supporting. Glad you support the president but those 3 things are really crazy, even for you.

  16. swedishfriend says:

Funny that anyone would call Colbert and Stewart leftist. Shows you how far right leaning the rest of the media is. As long as we call the MSM lefty people won’t notice their 100% corporate agendas. Now anyone near the center seems lefty because of how crazy the mainstream media has become. I guess it is more important what you call yourself than the nature of your actions.
    -God of All

  17. The0ne says:

I’m going to try and make it to the rallies, should be fun 🙂

  18. Angry says:

Dallas is having a tea-bagging party afterwards. ZING!

  19. King Alfred the Great (Jerk Off) says:

    #21, Alfie,

Flood the country with illegals, give them all the benefits citizens have, including medical.
Thank you President Bush who allowed the illegals in so your Republican friends had cheap labor.

    Miranda rights for enemy combatants.
Versus stooping to torture, indefinite detention, illegal eavesdropping on Americans, …

    Lawyers for Terrorists.
Doesn’t it bite your ass that the Rule of Law applies in our courts?

    Black Panther poll watchers.
Ha HA HA, WE KNOW HOW YOU HATED IT WHEN THE REPUBLICANS WERE CAUGHT RIGGING THE POLLS.

Stimulus cash for Acorn and SEIU.
Better than giving money to Haliburton and Blackwater. At least ACORN and the SEIU didn’t steal.

Nationalize all business, not just a few.
Hhmmm, wasn’t that done under Bush and his TARP?

Overturn contract law so evil capitalists don’t build factories in the USA.
What contract means anything to a capitalist? They moved off shore where slavery, abuse, and environmental laws are at the whim of the company.

Any land with pools of water after rainfall must belong to the Government.
So what, you got got caught pissing on some building and found out the hard way it was a police station. Your first mistake was saying it was rain water when there had been a three month drought.

More mosques in NT, especially at ground zero.
They have Mosques in NT? Where is that, New Tunisia

Tax payer funded refurbishing mosques worldwide.
Yes, Bush paying to rebuild the Mosques his army destroyed in Iraq and Afghanistan was a small, but necessary gesture. Why he also didn’t write a letter to the families of those killed while in the mosques is another, sad, story.

Pay for genital washing in Kenya, the country of our leaders birth.
Too funny. No wonder you and the tea baggers are ridiculed. But I think you are most offended because some people out there actually WASH THEIR GENITALS.

Raise taxes on everyone hiring Americans, that will teach them.
You repeatedly told us no one is hiring. So I guess that means no one is being taxed. Do I note some lying going on here?

Rally for Obama’s agenda…I’m sure lots of people will show up.
Why not. Obama’s supporters aren’t delusional like the tea baggers. That are serious about reform that empowers them over corporations.

  20. King Alfred the Great (Jerk Off) says:

    Alfie,

    I almost forgot,

Aren’t you glad the bible condones abortion, infanticide, rape, murder, genocide, slavery, monarchy, and everything else the Republicans and tea baggers are for.
