I traveled the world twice just to experience a total eclipse of the sun. Tame.

Next up==probably go to Tucson in the summer for lightning. Want to feel the rip and smell the ozone.

Totally up for the tornado viewing but I know a few guys who spent a few weeks from Oklahoma to Wyoming and didn’t see a thing. Who wan’ts a bust? I’ve been in two tornados, but both were at night. No fun at all. Dust in one case (Texas) and water (Jamaica) for the other.

Makes going to FireWorks displays a nice alternative? Just can never get close enough to the real good ones.

It seems like a fun alternative to the generic vacation at [generic vacation spot].

I’ve been close to a tornado. Once is enough. I normally don’t get scared, but that thing will put the fear of God into you.

  6. Floyd says:

When I was a 9 year old kid living in Indianapolis, a tornado blew up a neighbor’s garage, jumped over our house, and damaged some trees. The roar from the storm scared us, but our house only suffered minor damage. I really don’t want to experience another tornado.

  7. deowll says:

We had the worst category of twister in my home county some years ago. It left a truck in a tree, moved an engine block killed a friend’s father, one of my former students found out cars can fly by flying in hers, etc.

Hailstones can have wonky shapes. Those looked to have been made from smaller subunits freezing together.

We had some four inchers about twice as long as wide some years ago that damaged a lot of roofs and vehicles but what blew me away was the ones in my yard were covered with little prickle like posts with balls on the ends of the posts. They looked like some form of weird tropical fruit or something.

In the end maybe the shape doesn’t matter all that much compared to the one simple observation. They were big enough to dent vehicles, damage roofs and ruin plants. They were beautiful but I prefer to view them on Youtube rather than in person.

  8. Bill says:

My car and house were the ones shown on tv
As the damage from the tornado…
    Give me earthquakes anytime…
