There are a few advances, many really.
    And there COULD/SHOULD be more.

Citizens? More like spoiled brats! What an embarrassment.

What would make these people happy? More stuff? Infinite wealth? Spoon-feeding?

Unfortunately, we have too many dim-witted, woe-is-me, self-centered “citizens” that are always on the pity-pot.

Solution: Get some dignity and adjust your attitude. Do something that contributes to society. You’ll feel better and realize that life is good.

    Fireass for the win!

In the year 2001 an author researched how many of
“2001 a space odyssey” predictions from 1968 had been realized.

    Only one. Computer graphics.

    Going to watch 1492 , 2010 and maybe 2012….

  18. DrWally says:

I am old enough to remember the original breathless “the future looks great!” stuff from the late 50’s. Popular Science and Popular Mechanics were full of it.
These days, all that enthusiasm about the future is long gone, replaced by snarky cynicism. I think it crystallizes what has happen to America and perhaps the world — we’ve lost our spark. Beaten down by continuous wars, economic uncertainty, overpopulation and environmental calamities — we are too tired to care much about the future. Nobody expects things to be “better” in the future, hoping only that things don’t get much worse. Of course that ’50s vision was a dream that couldn’t come true, but nobody thought that at the time….

  19. bobbo, we think with words, and flower with ideas. says:

Dr Wally–thats true. I recall way too many articles on “Energy – too cheap to meter!” and “What are we going to do with all the free time?”

I do notice two schools of thought on the future now. One just as rosy as has historically been the case, the other more realistic?

  20. Scott M. says:

    Well played.

Now take the idea one step further.

What is the world like in 2100?

Include overpopulation, resource depletion, plagues, more wars, climate change, etc.

In this version, grandma is taking pills, but as part of the “ceremony of the passing”…where elders are not allowed to live past 80.
