There are a few advances, many really.
And there COULD/SHOULD be more.
Corp stagnation and the NEED to sell 1 thing a billion times, really slows things down.
Filmed (at least in part) in beautiful Madison, WI!
Where’s the cold fusion power generators?
Not very accurate, if you ask me.
They forgot to mention the surgically enhanced prostiwives that every real man will have in the future.
In the future, the government will satisfy your every need! From each according to his ability, to each according to his need! In the future, the government has infinite amounts money.
#2 no no no. It was all filmed in the future!
Citizens? More like spoiled brats! What an embarrassment.
What would make these people happy? More stuff? Infinite wealth? Spoon-feeding?
Unfortunately, we have too many dim-witted, woe-is-me, self-centered “citizens” that are always on the pity-pot.
Solution: Get some dignity and adjust your attitude. Do something that contributes to society. You’ll feel better and realize that life is good.
Fireass for the win!
“The future ain’t what it use to be.”
In the year 2001 an author researched how many of
“2001 a space odyssey” predictions from 1968 had been realized.
Only one. Computer graphics.
Going to watch 1492 , 2010 and maybe 2012….
“Mmm… A hearty space age meal!” Hilarious.
Transcript of the phone call on his space pod:
“Hey…”
“F**k me?”
“F**k you!!!”
As usual, the wing nut crowd didn’t get the joke.
# 13 Mr. Fusion said, “As usual, the wing nut crowd didn’t get the joke.”
They are so miserable all the time, and that makes me happy.
If you listen closely, the first prediction was correct. “..gays upon the cities of tomorrow..”
So true.
I didn’t see the ubiquitous jet pack. Mine’s in the shop right now.
Wow, a lot of people took their space-robot-rocket grumpy pill this morning! Lighten the fuck up people and laugh a little bit.
Wow! They were right on! Amazing! Heck, you could think this was made in modern times to look like an old newsreel, but who would do a dishonest thing like that?
I am old enough to remember the original breathless “the future looks great!” stuff from the late 50’s. Popular Science and Popular Mechanics were full of it.
These days, all that enthusiasm about the future is long gone, replaced by snarky cynicism. I think it crystallizes what has happen to America and perhaps the world — we’ve lost our spark. Beaten down by continuous wars, economic uncertainty, overpopulation and environmental calamities — we are too tired to care much about the future. Nobody expects things to be “better” in the future, hoping only that things don’t get much worse. Of course that ’50s vision was a dream that couldn’t come true, but nobody thought that at the time….
Dr Wally–thats true. I recall way too many articles on “Energy – too cheap to meter!” and “What are we going to do with all the free time?”
I do notice two schools of thought on the future now. One just as rosy as has historically been the case, the other more realistic?
Well played.
Now take the idea one step further.
What is the world like in 2100?
Include overpopulation, resource depletion, plagues, more wars, climate change, etc.
In this version, grandma is taking pills, but as part of the “ceremony of the passing”…where elders are not allowed to live past 80.
Dark, dark doctors.
I can’t wait for the…. MONSANTO PEOPLE… just think grow them in vat’s and have their DNA custom tailored to heavy/dangerous work, or any other various function you can think of…
Man I can’t wait for the future!
You never had it so good !
Sure, there will be a few rough spots ahead, but once the population stabilizes at about 5 million this old planet will be a pristine paradise once more.
