Actual unedited video.

The NAACP has retracted its original statement condemning comments made by a former Agriculture Department official who resigned after a video clip surfaced of her discussing a white farmer…

“Having reviewed the full tape by Shirley Sherrod, who is the woman who was fired by the Department of Agriculture, and most importantly heard the testimony of the white farmers mentioned in this story, we now believe that the organization that edited the documents did so with the intention of deceiving millions of Americans,” the statement from NAACP President Benjamin Jealous said.

Jealous later posted on his Twitter account that he “Spoke to Ms. Sherrod earlier today and personally apologized. Plan to meet with her face-to-face the next time I’m in Georgia.”

The organization also urged Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to reconsider Sherrod’s resignation from her post as the department’s director of rural development for Georgia.

Breitbart originally posted the video, which was quickly picked up by Fox News…

Sherrod defended herself in a number of interviews Tuesday, saying her controversial comments were taken out of context. She had, she said, used a personal experience from nearly a quarter century ago in which she confronted her own racism and learned to move beyond it…

White House cowardice in the face of loudmouthed blather from right-wing nutballs is not justification for terminating someone fighting on behalf of poor people.

UPDATE: Tom Vilsack has apologized and offered Mrs. Sherrod a job back with the USDA.

Of course the Right is throwing around accusations of racism to direct attention away from their own.

  2. Li says:

Breitbart? Wasn’t he the liar with Final Cut that spliced together the ACORN attack video by editing out all of the times that ACORN called the cops on them and editing in a lot of shots of a man in a ridiculous pimp outfit? What justifies the O administration repeatedly rolling over to such a two bit hack? I mean, last time they passed an illegal bill of attainder to dutifully attack on of their own parties best assets, and now they are firing good employees because Breitbart and Fox decided to smear them via selective editing.

If Obama is such a coward, then why don’t we splice together some video of a well known speech so that he says something unacceptable. Then he can resign, and we can hopefully get a real Democrat in his place.

  3. another sunny day in paradise says:

Check you facts before accusing. Fox did not run anything until after she was forced out. Also, if I recall Breitbart did not post until after and could careless about her.

  4. A Nony Mouse says:

Am I glad she’s moved beyond her racism? YES!

Did she not, in her own words, act in a racist and discriminatory manner before she learned better? YES!

Should she, a black female, be given a second chance when a white male would not be in a similar situation? NO!

  5. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

#3, bullshit. This video was all over Fox before she was fired. I saw it with my own eyes.

The story here is how Fox can no longer be considered a news organization, with a straight face.

The secondary story now is how those fans of the Fox Propaganda Channel are twisting the story away from total journalistic incompetence and race-baiting, towards USDA and Obama, and how they don’t want the daily dialog to center on racism within the tea party.

The issue is not about Shirley Sherrod. It is the laughing and guffawing by the audience in reaction to her comments.

    #4 A Nony Mouse

Don’t you think a black woman or a white man etc. (lets just call it people) should be given a second chance if they had learned from their mistake?

  9. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

jbenson…have you ever been to a black church? Then watched the audience as a man tells his story, often containing bad situations and decisions? That tape demonstrates the typical audience reaction to every finished phrase. Given this was an NAACP event, that sort of response should be expected, and it has ZERO bearing on the audience’s approval or acceptance of the individual phrases.

  10. Glass Half Full says:

Really? REALLY? We’re shocked that the political equivalent of the “Flat Earth Society” slandered someone by cleverly editing a video to seem to say the exact opposite of what it was originally? The fact that the supposed victims (white farmers) support this lady and consider her a friend might be clue to how anti-reality and fake this is…fake enough to be on Fox News (fair and balanced, ROTFLMAO)

I’m sick and tired of the Tea Party LaRouche Republican nuts. Anti-science, anti-evolution, anti-marriage, anti-reality nutbags who just make stuff up. You have to be FOR something, not just against the blacks, Jews, gays, immigrants and whatnot. You can’t just SAY you want lower taxes AND a balanced deficit, you have to TELL me specifically what you’ll cut (seems the military, social security and Medicare are off the table, so that should be fun).

  11. deowll says:

Let me see. Another blather post and if I want a clue as to the true facts I need to go spend an hour doing web searches and unfortunately even if I do that what I’m going to run into is a mountain of partisan BS because the thing that has been most completely destroyed in American Media is any effort to find the truth and publish it.

  12. Colorado says:

Maybe some of the spot light will fall on the program she was part of. We’ve had government aid for poor black farmers in Georgia since the Civil War. And as a result we have poor black farmers in Georgia.

  13. Glass Half Full says:

    NOTE:

Again to the crazies “debating this” as if there are 2 sides…the supposed “victims” of this racism are NOT attacking this lady, they’re her friends and support her and THEY think this is all “hogwash” in their words. It’s ONLY the nutbag lying conservatives who made up this fake story to begin with that are “debating” it. It’s a totally contrived story.

We have plenty of REAL problems to debate and work on without making up more Fox News quality fake stories.

  14. Greg Allen says:

Americans simply have to turn-off the right wing media.

Fox, Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Palin and their clones are turning our country into a sorry joke.

  15. bobbo, to the left of Obama says:

The “story” here is how an innocent person can lose their job without due process.

Obama has seen the same ludicrous attacks against himself and those close to him. I guess he keeps a tight circle around him and plays politics of the moment with everyone else.

Now, I suppose those in the highest offices should serve at the pleasure of the Presnident, but the Presnident should set up some internal review approaching due process simply to protect himself.

I thought Barry was smarter than that, gosh darn it.

  16. Anything for RATINGS! ANY-F***ING-THING!!!

That’s the media’s mantra and not just Fox’s either! Never mind facts. Never mind completeness. Never mind any legal rights either. Get those ratings up! “If it bleeds it leads” but don’t forget about sex too. And if you happen to mind-wash the public in the process then so much the better – they probably don’t want to know the WHOLE truth anyway.

…This is just more one-sided incomplete reporting presented in a way to support some sort of misguided agenda by the reporter(s) and news editor(s). I can only ask, SO WHAT?! Why should I even care about this? The entire country is on the fast track down the economic toilet and THIS is what our esteemed press want to cover?! GIVE ME A BREAK! The National Enquirer has BRAINWASHED YOU if you think THIS is “reporting” or even “NEWS”! It affects maybe THREE PEOPLE and somehow has become a leading story. If you have even a ounce of brains you just have to ask what’s the motive in telling us this? It’s BULLSHIT!

“This video was all over Fox before she was fired. I saw it with my own eyes.”

There’s a timeline problem. On Monday night the NAACP denounced Sherrod as “shameful,” the same day that she was pressured to quit her job (she says by the White House).

But Fox News never mentioned the story until Tuesday morning. For anybody to say that Fox News pressured her out, that is simply a lie.

Sucks when the facts blow you story, huh Baggins?

  18. Proud Alien says:

After having lived here for almost 20 years it still amazes me how politically “sensitive” and “correct” Yanks try and pretend to be. Racism, feminism, other -isms – this country is full of complainers, whiners and super sensitive types who never miss an opportunity to exploit any chance for their gain, political, fiscal or other. Everyone is pre-occupied with this “he said, she said” crap while the country is going down the drain.

It sure isn’t fair news but hey it’s fun for people like me and Boobo. We get to go at it and at each other and that’s all that counts for this site and many many others. The thing is to carefully select topics that you know your stupid readers will come back for and fight it out like kids.

Already this morning, if they don’t post updates to this issue than there’s no point in continuing with this subject.

jbenson…have you ever been to a black church? Then watched the audience as a man tells his story, often containing bad situations and decisions?

You mean like the reaction to comments from Obama’s 20-year long spiritual advisor Rev. Jeremiah Wright spewing stuff like “God damn America”?

Yeah, I saw that many times and was amazed at how the congregation enthusiastically agreed with all his vile racist comments.

  21. atmusky says:

    # 15 – she was in a “political” position (a State Director of USDA Rural Development). People in these positions are appointed by the party in control of the White House. They loose there jobs every time we change Presidents. They are not permanent employees and basically have no employment rights.

  22. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

jbenson…fox had that story all day Monday. Both website and on air.

As for the call-and-response typical of black churches, no, that’s a pathetic example and false equivalence typical of those lacking and not bothering to seek context. While I never agreed with Wright’s sermons, they were far less interesting in full context, something Fox Propaganda doesn’t know about. Along with their herd of sheep.

  23. Bob says:

Funny how the neolib’s get all up in arms when the R word is used against one of their people for once isn’t it? I mean this from a party that yells Racism when ever someone disagrees with the Obamasiah.

Use this as a lesson, when you build up a slander machine, sometimes that machine will be turned on its creators.

Hey buddy, you’re the one who brought up the issue of Black churches. I gave you a concrete and well documented example. Sorry if it conflicts with your dream version of reality.

#19–TheOne==I wouldn’t call it “fun” blogging here trying to inform the knuckle draggers and posers. It was fun for a short while, but the tragedy of being a thinking human being is that everything gets old. Watch this for instance:

#21–atmusky==what do you think the word “should” means where I use it in my post?

    and

#23–Bob==what the frick do you mean. Just starting off, “neolib” is madeup BS, so right from the gitgo you advertise yourself as a fruitloop. But always willing to give the benefit of the doubt, what might you be trying to say. Ok, evidently you think when the libs used the charge of racism against a few well known racists in the Republican party they only deserve scorn when the repuglicans falsely accuse one of their own of the same thing?

Yes, I see your point. RIGHT THERE, on the tippy top of your head. Whaddatool.

  29. Jmrouse says:

I’m not 100% sure of the timelines of this story and didn’t pay much attention to it till last night. Having said that, going by jbenson2’s assertion above in post #17 I did some checking by way of Google.

I don’t see much in the way of Fox News latching onto this story that day. If it did all happen on Monday, the 19th, then unless the tv station itself was running stories all morning about it, it appears jbenson2 may well be correct.

Look, I hate/despise Fox News. It’s the worse type of propaganda and is constantly brainwashing its viewership, but as a man of reason I am willing to look at the facts. Unless I am missing something in my research I don’t think the station is to blame for everyone jumping the gun on the initial story and getting this poor lady fired.

I welcome anyone proving me wrong here.

  30. Hyph3n says:

    # 25 Jim in Seattle said “OK, great, more GOP bashing by this blog.”

Breitbart lied (IMHO) by taking a story about overcoming racism, and making it seem like Sherrod. Plenty of liberal are coming and saying that the USDA and NAACP was wrong. Where’s the conservative outrage against one of their own.

I guess they only support 9 out of 10 Commandments.
