  1. brm says:

I understand all of this perfectly.

The wait times are probably due to a grinding inefficient bureaucracy, which is a separate problem.

  2. EvilPoliticians says:

If you don’t like our laws but want to immigrate, pick another country. Not which laws you will follow here.

If you are a citizen and don’t like our laws, vote to Change them.

  3. 1911 says:

My grandfather immigrated through Ellis Island, worked in a sawmill, then was able to send for his family who had patiently waited in Italy for SEVEN years.
That was not too tough for my family. Fuck the Mexicans.

  4. Father says:

I’m all for instant citizenship for anyone who has a job, and instant deportation for anyone who doesn’t.

    Har!

  5. KMFIX says:

I think the people that tell illegal aliens to stand in line know perfectly well how long that line is.

Illegal aliens know how long that line is too, which is why they try to drop a baby here as fast as they can…

This chart is useful for those in other countries who do not understand the immigration timetable in the US.

  6. deowll says:

The hot mamas that my nephew on the boarder patrol keeps marring seem to become citizens much faster than this. Of course they are educated and one of them works for the Fed gov making a heck of a lot more than I do.

  7. jbenson2 says:

    Obamaspeak:

I think it’s ILLEGAL to make illegals ILLEGAL.

It’s against the LAW to make a LAW enforcing the LAW.

    Translation:

Don’t be messing with my 2012 voter base!

  8. EvilPoliticians says:

Seems we had no issues deporting the illegal Russians. They were more illegal than “spys” from what was reported. Sounds racist – against the “whites”. But there are not enough votes in the illegal caucasian caucus.

  9. Father says:

Univision’s anchor Jorge Ramos says The Illegals have the right to be here!

  10. Cirdan says:

The only reason why Barry and the dems want to avoid doing anything about the borders is because the people who come in this country illegally will vote for them because they kept the border unsecure.

What very few people realize is that illegals from you know where is the cause of the VAST MAJORITY of California’s debt. Why are we in debt? Free health care to those who are not citizens. Paychecks to those without work and who have a child. What I should do is renounce my citizenship, move to Mexico for a few years then come back illegally. Free healthcare, free money from the government, free housing…life is great! Why should anyone work a day in their life with that kind of support!

I do believe in helping those that need help. Giving food and clothes to those in need, giving healthcare to those that don’t have the finances. But that is what Churches and nonprofit organizations are here for, not the govt. The only thing the govt does with the money is buy million dollar jets and give themselves performance bonuses, not help people in need like the clueless dems think is happening.

  11. whitedevil says:

I live in Japan, and it’s far more difficult to emigrate here…the rules are stricter, the deportations are faster, and usually come with a lifetime ban. It’s also virtually impossible to get citizenship….you will always be a foreigner. The US is a very welcoming country by world standards.

But since people who want to immigrate to Japan won’t be likely Dem voters, Unka Dave don’t care.

  12. Hyph3n says:

I hear a lot about California’s problems are all due to illegal aliens. I would really like to see some numbers on that.

You legalize those immigrant (whether *gasp* amnesty or a guest worker), then those folks and companies start paying taxes.

  13. tdkyo says:

    This chart is bull /obvious

A Green Card is perfectly fine for want-to-be immigrants. Adding another step for citizenship, if I am not mistaken, only gives certain additional rights and, specifically, the right to vote.

  14. NobodySpecial says:

    >If you don’t like our laws but want to immigrate, pick another country.

After you finish your science/engineering phd at Caltech/Stamford/MIT and discover that the Americans won’t let you stay there and use your skills.
Come to Canada – start your business here, you can sell the stuff to the Americans and we get to keep their $$$.

ps. Don’t let them find out about this scam !

  15. Matto says:

Cirdan, I hear what you’re saying but there’s the flipside to immigration. More people mean more demand for goods and services and therefore more jobs to fill those needs. Who sells them food, shelter and entertainment? Who benefits from cheap labour? That’s how supply and demand works and although immigrants are always blamed for problems they contribute as well.

  16. Steve S says:

    Hyph3n said,
“I hear a lot about California’s problems are all due to illegal aliens. I would really like to see some numbers on that.”

The problem is you will NEVER get numbers that you can trust because EVERY government agency, group or individual that compiles this information has an agenda.

  17. George W. says:

I have no problem with people immigrating here (to the US) and doing it much faster too. The only reason I can see that the U.S. government requires an immigrant stay in the U.S. and establish residency for half a decade at minimum is to reduce the likelihood that any such immigrant would end up renouncing their citizenship and then having a place to go back to. The only problem is that our intelligent U.S. leaders forget about places like MEXICO!

I say let them come here. Let them do it faster. And then let them PAY THEIR TAXES!

…And if you, Joe Citizen can’t/won’t live within your means and go do Juan’s job picking lettuce then I say Juan deserves your job too! (Cause it would seem that Juan understands economics and the system better than you do.)

Are we ALL (U.S. Citizens) just a bunch of hypocrites?! Is America no longer the land of opportunity? Or is America just the land of opportunity for her citizens? Do the words “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breath free” mean a damn thing to ANYONE?!

  18. sargasso_c says:

Checking eBay for a Green Card.

  19. Mextli says:

    # 17 “I say let them come here. Let them do it faster.”

Do you think there should be any limit?

Why are the majority of immigrants either illegal or unskilled? Do we need more chicken pluckers than Phds?

  20. dusanmal says:

@#17 “Juan’s job picking lettuce then I say Juan deserves your job too” – very similar logic to one professed by slave owners in the South before Civil War… “Oh, but no one can grow cotton without slave workforce…” Answer to the problem of small number of Americans who would do menial jobs at the farms for minimum wage is not to find some poor saps who would. Real answer is to change and industrialize production, hiring 100 times less workforce who you pay 10 times more. With likely side effect of higher productivity. Voila, plenty of workers to hire for 10xminimum wage, better living standard, more profit, more produce. But no, those farmers want to still apply 19th century agriculture in 21st century and can find appropriate workforce only in countries with 19th century or worse living conditions.

Back on topic, I immigrated here legally. Yes, it took time but most importantly – no one at any of the steps in the process have tried to obstruct me in any way shape or form. So, I don’t buy BS that you can’t immigrate here legally with ease.

  21. MattB says:

@NobodySpecial I’ve heard it’s even harder to become a Canadian citizen.

  22. McCullough says:

#17. Land of the free? That’s an empty phrase these days. Let’s get some of that back, then maybe we can talk about the rest.

  23. Chris Mac says:

I like the fact that the clock and this blog are still free. So i can count down the days until i’m dead. If amexican would wake up and, something something bobbo

hmm.. that should get me outta commenting for a month or 2

  24. Grandpa says:

Sorry about the long wait guys. Really. But, so many of you have immigrated to our country illegally that we cannot afford to let more legal immigrants in at the current rate of 1,000,000 a year. Please encourage your fellow Mexican citizens to follow the laws and rules. It is not fair to those from other countries who also wish to come here. We cannot “Profile” Mexicans with preference over peoples from other countries. Please STAY AWAY!

  25. Bob says:

I think most level headed people are willing to make the legal immigration chain more efficient and more open. However many people like myself, have gotten fed up with the government not enforcing its laws in order to buy votes, or use slave labor. So after being screwed many times, we have dug our heels in.

I will not support any loosening of our immigration laws, or standards until something is done about the Mexican invasion. Once the government seals the border or at the very least stops 95% of the illegals crossing, then, and only then will I talk about changing the rules to make it easier for people to come to the country.

I really do believe that LEGAL immigrants are good for our country, but the key here is LEGAL.

  26. Max Bell says:

I refuse to address the immigration issue until they finally begin enforcing conventions against piracy.

    THE LAW IS THE LAW.

    Also: people who abuse caps.

  27. bobbo, to the left of Obama says:

“You KNow”–the only time immigration of any kind is “valuable” is when you need more people. Two main situations for that: war, and a labor shortage. We have two wars, so we should allow anyone who wants to join our military to be citizens if they survive. Right now, I believe we allow illegal immigrants to enlist, let them serve, then kick them out of the country. True or not, its true enough given military service doesn’t give any extra points towards becoming legal.

Across the board, lib or con, can we agree that HONESTY is a valuable governing limitation? Which is exactly why both parities are so corrupt right now. Failing to enforce the laws, the primary function of government, is waived in our face every day. Unseen corruption more deeply rooted is more disguised, but suredly, on the continuation of the first, the second is present as well?

So, if you don’t have the stomach to VOTE ALL INCUMBENTS OUT OF OFFICE, maybe you can VOTE ANY POL WHO DOES NOT VOTE ENFORCEMENT OF LEGAL EMPLOYMENT OUT OF OFFICE.

The will of the people must be recognized. What this normally shows is that the people have no will. Ha, Ha.

    Silly Hoomans.

  28. ECA says:

    OK,
    you two,
You want law? then ask those MAKING them to live by them. QUIT changing what they dont like.
The laws are for the protection of the individual. Not Corps.

Only reason Emigration is a problem is that To many jobs have left the USA.
The only jobs left, IF you want them are at Burger kings and McD’s..
Unless you wish to PLAY in the corp (hide the peanut game) you have LITTLE OR NO choice.
The only way you are going to get business with the corps, is to CUT every corner you can, and give them a write off. its SOP.
NO LONGER is the company that can charge $100 per hour, and the persons on the bottom get $20, those in the middle get $20, Taxes get $30 and the TOP gets $30(and does nothing).
WE let this happen. Someone wanted an international Market place. but WE ARNT getting international Prices. only the Cheap wages.

  29. atmusky says:

    # 3 – my grand parents did about the same thing. But did you look at the chart? Under current law neither of our grand parents would have been allowed into the country and never would have been allowed to become citizens and given how Italians were treated back then I am sure there were more than a few people who would have been ok with that.

  30. Dallas says:

All I’m saying is that Pedro deserves another chance to plea his case.
