President Barack Obama is meeting with activists who are pressing him for action on immigration legislation and Arizona’s tough new enforcement law.
The meeting Monday at the White House includes prominent labor leaders and Hispanic activist organizations, according to participating groups. It comes as Obama faces calls to move forward on comprehensive immigration legislation, something he’s pledged to act on despite long odds of success.
Activists were also expecting an update on the administration’s plans to challenge Arizona’s contentious new law that requires police officers to question a person’s immigration status if there’s reason to suspect they’re in the country illegally.
Obama is meeting Tuesday with Hispanic lawmakers.
He probably won’t do much. His heart isn’t in it.

Nothing. Except sue Arizona for taking up the slack.

He will sue Arizona and loose. He will loose and take down a dozen Dem senators with him.
Yea, I can’t blame this on Bush the Retard. Obama needs to step it up a notch. Wishing things were so doesn’t make them that way. Enforce employment rules against American Employers for 3-4 years and many of the million’s illegally here will voluntarily return home. Legalize Drugs. Shoot anyone with a tattoo on sight. Some easy things to do can be very effective too.
But I expect nothing but words.

Sure could use a straight-shootin, no-nonsense MAN in the Whitehouse. And a Texas oilman to boot! He’d have had that oil leak shut down in a week, one call to Red Adair’s company would do it.
So, what will Obama do about the swarms of illegals streaming in? Prob hang some new curtains! And get another Nobel prize or some other humanitarian award. All the while offering lip-service to the eager media to gobble it all up and declare what a great prez he is.

Bush wasn’t exactly anti immigrant you know. He had a very lenient stance toward immigration including some talk of amnesty. He is/was also close personal friends with Vicente Fox.

Time to step up. And out. The governors of these states should begin making plans for these states to seceed from the union. Make their own economies, make their own military to close the border.
Maybe some of the other disaffected states will throw in as well. Maybe all the states north to the Canadian border.
Let’s see– petroleum and cattle from Texas, Textiles in the southern states, grain and corn in the plains. Gosh what in the HELL do we need the North-east states for? They produce NOTHING. Cut them right out. And forget California. We wish them well in their future endeavours.

That will probably lower our unemployment rate when the companies raise their salaries to attract more legal workers. Good all around.

But still test welfare recipients. If you’re on welfare because of drugs, it is your own fault. If you go to work and are fine, then go ahead and take drugs. Just don’t work anywhere that requires running heavy machines.

Sure, but people who break the rules have a vested interest in making labor costs stay down. I think it is cheating the legal worker who is displaced as well as cheating the illegal worker by paying him substandard wages.
I fly an Arizona State flag in front of my home in San Francisco, since they did the right thing about Mexican criminals invading, and enacting “Constitutional Carry”.
I am considering Flagstaff for retirement in a couple of years.

Good that Arizona is building their own reverse Berlin Wall of sorts. Can’t blame her for doing this even though it’s largely to win over the racist vote.
I’m not sure what Obama can do in the short term other than assert the Federal government’s domain over immigration.

I don’t have anything against immigrants. Some of them are family. Letting foreign criminals take over part of the country is criminal.
It clearly is the job of the executive branch to prevent this from happening and they are totally crapping out.
It was also the job by law of the head of the department of the interior to keep a close eye on the oil platforms and prevent what happened from happening from happening by enforcing the regulations. The person responsible crapped out. The regulations weren’t followed and we have a mess. Now we will get a bunch of crap laws meant to hid the fact that the people at the top didn’t enforce the laws and are incompetent. As with the Maddoff case we don’t need more laws. We need enforcement of the laws we already have.
I think George Bush II was an incompetent President. I think Obama has raised incompetence to an entirely new level.
What did George W. Bush do in EIGHT YEARS to secure that boarder? Did it work? Was the problem solved? If Bush fixed this we wouldn’t be talking about this now. What did George HW Bush do in 4 years to secure that boarder? What did Ronald Reagan do in 8 years to secure that boarder? Obama is brilliant, the fact that in 2 years he hasn’t solved a problem that NO REPUBLICAN IN 50 YEARS solved doesn’t make him incompetent, just human. Saint Reagan didn’t fix this either dude.
Most of your are just sheep who are just for or against one party or another. It’s just like Crips and Bloods. To the outside they both appear to be the same, just gangs, but they and their supporters hate each other so much, which is funner to the outsiders (like me) who can’t really see the difference, or why they hate each other.
I LOVE this discussion when it comes down to ONE party being responsible for some issue like this which has been going on for a century. We’ve elected both Republicans and Democrats, they’ve both held the executive office and Congress, and NEITHER party has “fixed” this…so get over it. It’s a bigger issue than party politics.
Short of putting a machine gun toting soldier every 100 yards or so along the boarder, 24/7, you aren’t going to be able to close it. Anything short of that is a futile attempt which only pays lip service to closing the boarder.
Although such a scheme would help the unemployment problem, I don’t think it’s likely to happen.
First of all, consider that the kidnappings et al in Phoenix are artifacts of the war on drugs. They have nothing to do with basically honest, poor people looking for work at modest wages to support themselves and their families, which is what the vast majority of “illegal immigration” is all about. Legalize drugs and your kidnapping and murder problem will go away. The rest of the so called illegals mostly provide a services that lazy, fat*, Americans wouldn’t do for the price. Give them work visas, get them paying basic payroll related taxes, and see where we are in a few years.
*Funny that fat, lazy used to be a stereotype for Mexicans, back in the day….
If you want to really do the world a lot of good, pollute water supplies world wide with birth control drugs. Once we get back down to say 3 billion, most of the world’s major problems will be manageable.
