Yes, this is an actual commercial they run in PA. And the public tolerates this sort of thing?

you posted this last week 🙂

  2. Grandpa says:

Hey, if the illegals don’t have to pay taxes, why should I? If they can forgive them their crimes, they can forgive mine. Anything less is racial profiling.

  3. Hmeyers says:

    Very offensive police-state style ad.

  4. wickaudio says:

I live in Central PA and saw this last night. All I thought of was WTF? Time for Rendell to take a hike.

  5. Steve says:

As much as I abhor each incremental descent into the Big Brother reality, I’m unable to be bothered by what some see as this ad being cause for outrage. It’s merely overstating the obvious. Most people who owe back taxes to Pennsylvania are easily located and were long before it was easy to demonstrate it with Google Earth. I think the more important message contained in this is that Pennsylvania will forgo penalties if people pay up by June 18. Here in California I might get a similar break if I hire a tax attorney to grovel for me. We’ve all been living in a futuristic police state for a long time now, at least this message is honest.

  6. pcsmith says:

The inside joke is that the home they zoom in on is just outside Harrisburg and Tom is probably a State Legislator.

PA has one of the most corrupt governmental state bodys in the country.

  7. Cursor_ says:

All governments have corrupt elements because the people do not hold them accountable.

They are too busy watching TV, drinking beer and complaining about their jobs or lack thereof.

And the tea party people are all marching for the wrong reasons spurred on by misinformation and a lack of proper education due to public school upbringing.

PC- living in PA, I have to agree that our state legislature is pretty bad. But take a gander at what’s happening next door in NY!

  9. Scooter says:

Sorry, I fail to see a problem with the ad. Like STEVE said “As much as I abhor each incremental descent into the Big Brother reality, I’m unable to be bothered by what some see as this ad being cause for outrage. It’s merely overstating the obvious. Most people who owe back taxes to Pennsylvania are easily located and were long before it was easy to demonstrate it with Google Earth. If you owe then pay up. it is as simple as that. The rest of us have to pay so what makes you so special that you don’t?

  10. Mike from Illinois says:

I don’t see what is wrong with this ad. I pay my taxes on time. this person is breaking the law and is being given a chance (very publicly) to do what is required by law without having to pay all of the costs that he owes. the information presented is all public information, you don’t have a right to privacy when you break the law. tax laws are generally bright line laws so there is no defense. looks good to me.

  11. Winston says:

They should modify it and play it in Greece where tax evasion that is not seriously investigated or prosecuted costs them an amount equal to 10% of their GDP annually:

    http://bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601109&sid=apSz28ifLL9U

As a matter of fact, Greece is beginning to use Google Earth images for exactly this purpose.

Greece’s budget deficit that’s causing the problems is about 13% of GDP. Actually collecting taxes owed would bring that down to 3%, a very reasonable figure that the US hasn’t matched for many years.

  12. Rick Cain says:

Or the cops just could look you up on Zabasearch
