  1. jeroen says:

Mr. Dvorak iPad prices in the EU vary because of different Value Added Tax (VAT) rates:
    Netherlands 19%
    Spain 16%
    Switzerland 20%

  2. qb says:

It sounds like all Android sales are topping the iPhone in the US. Not surprising because the early Android hardware just plain sucked and the iPhone is only on one carrier.

A lot of devs I know are hoping that the WebOS takes off under HP. It is the nicest mobile OS to write code for, in my humble opinion.

  3. deowll says:

I think you would have to compare Android OS sales against Iphone/Ipad with phone connection sales. I’m not sure if you would need to include the touch or not. I don’t think it hooks directly to the net.

think it is just a matter of time before Android out sales the Iphone due to the restrictive policies of Apple.

[The Touch has WiFi. – ed.]

  4. The DON says:

The deal with the French and Swiss price differences, whilst VAT amounts do differ, the main factor is that Switzerland decided not to become part of the EU (European Union). Their currency is the Swiss Franc.

They have always been pretty shrewd when it comes to economics.

So Whilst Switzerland is part of Europe, it is not a part of the EU, and thus companies can play silly buggers with pricing.

Just like when I bought a razor blade in Australia, cheaper that I could get it in Europe, despite it being manufactured in Germany. (I am in the UK)

  5. qb says:

And then I read that Sprint pulls the Nexus One. It’s a funny ol’ world, innit?

  6. George says:

I have AT&T U-verse and they use Cisco “set top boxes.” I have the DVR box and the non-DVR box. Neither are on top of my TVs.

Apparently Cisco bought Scientific Atlanta who made cable boxes.

  7. jbellies says:

Maybe those who want a portable entertainment device are buying the ipod touch (which hasn’t gone on bargain hereabouts since November, so sales must be brisk). Then the iphone is competing, phone-against-phone with units designed from the ground up to be unstoopid phones.

The Euro is worth 1.41 Swiss Francs. Perhaps the price was set prior to 18 Dec 2009, when the Euro was trading at about 1.51 or so. Or maybe Jobsy hates Switzerland because their trains run on time and loves France for the $800 shoes.

  8. Rich says:

Technical note- would someone kindly fix the “Right click here and select ‘Save Link As…’ to download the mp3 file” link at the bottom? It no longer links to the MP3 file and I find myself accidentally saving the HTML file.

  9. grubby says:

CISCO getting into the set top business is not that big of a stretch considering they bought Scientific Atlanta a few years ago. SA’s main business was set-top boxes
