Actually, it’s much worse. They watch a lot of american TV series, and see the movies we make and mash that up with the news they get, and we look pretty ridiculous. I guess, it’s a typical xenophobic response. Homo Sapiens is the same thing every where you go, culture and tradition may make a difference in the society but it’s all the same to the evolved ape.
Looks like they are on to us. That’s the way I see it, and I’ve lived here all my life.
Yellowstone is in Wyoming, not Montana. Montana has Glacier National Park.
#4. Actually Yellowstone is in 3 states, Idaho too.
So they’re as ignorant of us as we are of them.
England: Rotten toothed snobs.
Scotland: Incomprehensible speakers.

witches in Oregon?
I would hope this map isn’t made by an american.
are there people living here that think salem,OR is where the witch trials were held?
OK, I’m a foreigner and this is total BS. WE don’t know anywhere near as much about states outside NY and California.
#6 – this map is a reply to a more famous one that shows how Americans see the rest of the world –
http://wordsoup.com/blog/americanview.gif
I’ve got a couple friends from Poland and they say a lot of people who meet them say, “Poland? I’ve been to Germany!” or something about Germany.
I agree with Michael most Europeans think of America as: New York (city) / California (LA/San Francisco), Florida (for Disney Land) and the south (full of racists).
I get that, “New Zealander, Huh? You speak English there, too?” And they think we’re in Scandinavia.

West Yellowstone defected?
Hey, Florida’s looking a lot better since they started showing “Cougar Town” on TV here (Ireland).
Another myth about the USA is that they don’t do public transport there. OK, your passenger rail system is third-world, but I’ve ridden buses and light rail in four different US cities, and all were an improvement on Dublin. Cheaper too – I mean, $1.50 to get me all the way across Houston last year? Freaking amazing.
Another way that Americans see Europe is this (via StrangeMaps): http://bit.ly/1OlnN Doh!
PS: why are my comments being flagged as spam? Weird.
There were witches in Oregon? Who knew?
From the Europeans I’ve met there three groups: Californians, New Yorkers (meaning NYC of course) and hicks.
Who really cares about Europe, our backyard is messy enough to keep us busy for the rest of our lives. China, now that’s something to worry about. Mexico, bloodsuckers, enough….
Whatever……………………………….
Traaxx
In truth there are only three places. In order, most important first:
America
Heaven
Everywhere else
Someone forgot about nuclear bombs and UFO’s for New Mexico.
For years, Europeans had a mixed view of Americans as nice, strong, generally well meaning but stupid.
But after eight years of Bush, they now just see us as mean and stupid.
17,
now i KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE FAMILY..
WE forgot them.
we even forgot our OWN honor and integrity.
Yes, I’ve met some Aussies that were going to stop in Salem, Oregon to see some witch stuff. They were very disappointed when I told them they were on the side end of the country.
Good thing there wasn’t a Springfield witch trail. Most states have at least one Springfield.
I rather like the entry for my state, WA. It seems to actually be somewhat complimentary. I’ll take it. 🙂
#6 Just for the record IKEA is Swedish. Denmark is beer, mermaids and expensive audio equipment.
I agree with those that say this map is to detailed to reflect European knowledge about the US. Most Europeans would fail to placed more than five states accurately on a map. We like to label Americans as ignorant but were just as bad ourselves.
No no no most Europeans would say “Fatties” in a giant text across the entire US map.
I live in Indiana and not only don’t I own a gun but I don’t drink. I must be doing something wrong.
In European Heaven, the Cops are British, the Car are made by Germans, the Cooks are French, the Italians are the Lovers, and the Swiss run everything.
In European Hell, the Cops are German, the Cars are made by the French, the Cooks are British, the Swiss are the lovers, and the Italians run everything.
😉

Actually we just think that none of you understand irony.
Just travel to Europe and see what they know about Canada. I don’t think they teach Geography at any school any more.

Just travel to the US and see what the know about Canada. My favorite so far has been the number of Olympic ticket holders who went to Vancouver, Washington.
However most Canadians couldn’t pick out Finland on a map either.
What No statement in Bashing for the state of New Jersey??
I don’t know-this map seems pretty accurate to me!
