Most transparent White House ever…?

Police chased reporters away from the White House and closed Lafayette Park today in response to a gay rights protest in which several service members in full uniform handcuffed themselves to the White House gate to protest “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

People who have covered the White House for years tell me that’s an extremely unusual thing to do in an area that regularly features protests.

A reporter can be seen in the YouTube video above calling the move “outrageous” and “ridiculous.”

Freedom of the press seems to be just a fond memory. Wouldn’t it have been great if the press had put up a tiny bit of resistance, instead of just being herded away to the sheep pen. Bahhhh!

  1. bobbo, the pragmatic libertarian says:

    Well, that is upsetting.

I’m sure the White House Stenography Pool will be all over Gibbs.

  2. derspankster says:

That damned Obama! Where’s Dick Cheney when you need him?

  3. Killer Duck says:

I wonder if wikileaks will have video of these photographers being blown away from Marine 1. Those cameras on the white house look like rocket launchers you know.
On the other hand….do we really need any more freaking video of the White House, Layfayette Park or any bozos going in or out of the White House? Seriously…there is enough file footage to last a lifetime.

  4. deowll says:

The lame media will do what it always does. Role over and play dead. They aren’t going to say anything bad about their god.

  5. LoTechNo says:

    DEAR LEADER….

Knows what is best for us.

  6. Jmrouse says:

They handcuffed themselves to the White House gate? Are we sure that’s always been allowed? Free speech is one thing, but I don’t know if historically people have been allowed to chain themselves to the White House gate.

  7. testtubebaby says:

    Freedom is closed, move back.

  8. gquaglia says:

Protests?, there are no protests. Everyone supports 100 % what the new messiah is doing, why would there be protests. Must be those pesky tea party people just causing trouble again.

    Change you can believe in!

  9. chuck says:

I love the reporter’s comment: “It’s one thing to push the public out, but it’s another to do this to the press!”

And tomorrow, the same reporters in the Whitehouse press room will laugh at Robert Gibb’s lame jokes and write down everything he says without question.

  10. ECA says:

WHo gave authorization to close the park??

  11. denacron says:

Too bad the camera could not capture all that hope and change going on at the gate. At least we know that “Lets be clear!” means clear out. 😛

    # 10
“WHo gave authorization to close the park??”

The D.C. chapter of the Westboro Baptist Church maybe?

  12. Rubber Soul says:

Was that Fisher Stevens at about 4:08? (Orange Sweater) Haha!

  13. BmoreBadBoy says:

This demonstrates what the government does best. Attenuation of rights. Step #1: Write a Bill of Rights stating clearly the freedom of the press. Step #2: Pass laws to limit and control that freedom just a little bit. Step #3: Pass more laws to limit and control that freedom some more. Wash, rinse, repeat. Until one day, you have to pay some exorbitant fee to stand within 1 mile of the white house and record or say anything.

  14. Cap'nKangaroo says:

No, it is not legal to handcuff yourself to the WH gate. That is why it is called a protest. The people who handcuffed themselves to the gate wanted to be arrested, in plain view of the press, to make the most of their action. By shooing away the press, the story will be about the police actions rather than the protest itself.

A rather clever move to deflect the attention. Of course, if the previous administration had done this the entire club of named Dems would be hollering holy hell for the trashing of the First Amendment. It all matters who is in charge I guess.

  15. NOt sure why a few of them did not go around and behind behind.

  16. Colonel Catsup says:

I don’t get the title of the post. Also, the officer was doing his job.

  17. Cap'nKangaroo says:

#16 May I suggest listening to several episodes of John C Dvorak and Adam Curry’s podcast “No Agenda”. Then you may better understand what McCullough was alluding to in his title. If you still don’t get it, then you probably never will.

  18. natefrog says:

    Fuckin’ pigs.

  19. Elmer Fudd says:

Was Adam Curry chained to the White House fence, I thought I saw him before the reporters were told to move back.

  20. Henry G says:

What a bunch of punks the reporters and camera crews are! One Park police officer says “Move back! The park is closed” and they all fold like a card table. Weak, lame, tired wussy…hey! MSM the local hospital is offering a special… two yellow streaks removed from your back for the price of one. You can bring a friend who’s a coward, too!…Take advantage of the deal!

  21. jbenson2 says:

Hmmm, no comments from Uncle Dave or Dallas? I bet they would be spitting blood if this happened when Bush was President, but with The Messiah leading us, they are mighty quiet.

  22. BmoreBadBoy says:

    @bobbo, the pragmatic libertarian, #1

    Didn’t you once call me a Lie-bertarian once, you 2-faced, double-tongued, liberal d-bag?

  23. bobbo, the pragmatic libertarian says:

#22–BBoy==I’m sure I did. Libertarianism covers many subjects all with the general theme of keeping the government out of our lives as much as possible.

When it comes to freedom of speech, assembly, protest I believe those freedoms are near absolute–the actions of the Park Police here being a violation of those rights and the MSM really should mount a campaign in their own self interests to get behind and reveal what was “in play”–as should the public if you have the time and ability to do so.

While not absolute, I most often find myself calling people LIEBERTARIAN over tax policy which is quite different from speech. I’ll bet you are one of those LIEBERTARIANS who think of taxes as involuntary servitude? And it is==but it falls on the Laffer curve that you might want to discuss with Benji. Too little taxation is bad, too much is bad, somewhere in the middle is good. When you argue bluntly that all taxation except for police protection for your property that you have amassed over the years, you are too far to the left of the curve==the LIEBERTARIAN “screw you, I’ve got mine” side.

LIEBERTARIANS as a rule are retarded thinking they made themselves all by themselves and should not be taxed to “help” anyone else when what they short sightedly don’t realize is that in very real paplable PRAGMATIC ways, when you help others, you are still helping yourself. don’t even need to be christian to see the benefits of public education, health, and so forth.

So BBoy==tell us, just how retarded are you?

  24. Breetai says:

    1st amendment?! Har!
    Don’t question Authority Slave.

  25. Uncle Patso says:

    # 17 Cap’nKangaroo:
‘#16 May I suggest listening to several episodes of John C Dvorak and Adam Curry’s podcast “No Agenda”.’

No thanks. I tried and made it through 80 or 90 episodes until I couldn’t stand it any more. Adam is just too crazy, and not in an entertaining way.

You know, our postal carrier put a piece of our neighbor’s mail in our box — it’s all Obama’s fault!

  26. Brian says:

I like the cops hat, looks like some 2 bit dictatorship coustume, note the height.

    Coincidence… I Think Not!

  27. LDA says:

I guess Rockefeller told Kissinger to tell Obama to tell those slaves to shut up.

Can’t have cannon fodder disrespecting the government’s ‘authoritie’ by protesting, and grown up Cartman really showed those reporters who’s boss.

As usual, I blame the people for letting it happen.

  28. The0ne says:

They’re sheeps because…well, just look at them! They’re fcking huge! It’s not wonder all they can’t really stand for what they’re actually living.

See this citizen, now he’s standing up for his right in a country that doesn’t want to give it to him. That’s courage, that’s guts, that’s wanting something so bad that fcking Americans can only talk about nowadays, that you’re going to stand in front of tanks….fcking TANKS.

And these fools can’t stand their ground with this cop? Fck us.

  29. Guyver says:

Ooops. I forgot to close a block quote. Sorry. 😛
