I think the Democrats are fired up and ready to go. I think Obama has opened up a can of whoop-ass on the Republicans.

  1. bobbo, we think with words says:

What makes you say Dems are “fired up?” Why do you characterize the Dems as a homogeneous group? Why would anyone be encouraged after taking a year to pass a bill that was overwhelmingly in the people’s self interest yet only passed by 3 votes? Given the difficulty in being able to formulate a message on such a positive bill, who would be encouraged by the more contentious items that are in the future (carbon cap and trade, immigration, education etc)?

Seems to me you are just following the on going never ending political spin machine. This time, for a few days, from the Democratic Fund raising Function.

What a dedicated follower of fashion.

  2. FRAGaLOT says:

    @1 bobbo
the bill is overwhelmingly in the self interest of health insurance companies, not the people.

  3. Marc Perkel says:

#1 I’m talking about the Democrats who are running for election this year.

  4. Dallas says:

    I would agree.

As a community organizer, Obama made the mistake in 2009 of reaching out to those MF’s. He lost a lot of political capital (as Bush would say) and wasted time being bipartisan.

Finally, I’m seeing a more confident administration now on the heels of a major campaign promise. Once the jobless market goes below 8%, the GOP is history.

Even if Palin showed her tits or pulled a Sharon Stone stunt to the teabaggers it would be too late to rejuvenate the party.

  5. sargasso says:

In politics you don’t “peak” your campaign two years before the election. The GOP is too early. The Democrats can now steer public opinion around them.

  6. bobbo, we think with words says:

#3–Mark==ok a subset. Well, the 30 or so Dems who voted against the Bill certainly aren’t growing a pair—-agreed?

So we are talking about those who think they are in a blue environment which is blue because the voters are in favor of healthcare reform and the reform bill just passed==so THOSE Dems think they have a record of success to present to their voters. OK. Thats NOT CALLED GROWING A PAIR. THATS called riding the coat tails.

Still doesn’t address what “a pair” would suggest–rapid movement towards Single Payer, restructuring of Medicare and Social Security to a funded status, stopping the pork, removing money fromt he system===on and on. I see no balls, no back bone, no brains.

Just simpering pandering corrupt politicians on both sides===as far as the eye can see.

  7. Knightheat says:

I think it is a little late at this point to attempt to save this union. We need to make sure Obama and the “Progressives” give us more entitlements, more taxes, and drive up the debt so we can monetize it and start over. I hope I live to see this. It should be fun.

  8. The Warden says:

Dvorak, your blog has just jumped the shark. See ya!

  9. dusanmal says:

@#4 “As a community organizer, Obama made the mistake in 2009 of reaching out to those MF’s. He lost a lot of political capital (as Bush would say) and wasted time being bipartisan.” – Name ONE bipartisan action of Obama in 2009. Not only that there were none but , more importantly he didn’t need one having vast filibuster proof majorities in both houses. Yet he didn’t accomplish anything during that period. Nothing to do with bipartisanship but with so extreme Left agenda that even many loyal Dem’s couldn’t sign on it.

As for present political power: Dem’s can’t put anything through without scam or loophole, visible to everyone miles away (recess app’s – he already has that 10% of unionized vote, which remaining 90% hate with a might). Internationally, just wait for Israel bombing Iran near Nov. elections and Obama criticizing them… 78% of that vote gone bye-bye. Replacement ? Voting felons. That will go well.

Democrats of the future : Illegal Aliens and convicted felons.

  10. wirelessg says:

Watch out! This pendulum does not have brakes.

  11. Colorado says:

I agree Obama is probably feeling pretty tough right now. Iran watch out. But getting anything else thru congress is not going to happen. Pelosi busted some balls on Obamacare and they’re not going to stand for that again. And then there are all the freshmen swept in with Obama who are on their way out, and have nothing to loose. No one owes Pelosi anything now, so she is done – and there goes the vote margin.

I agree with #9, Dvorak rein in the liberal gloating or you’re going to loose your audience. The country is almost always split 50/50 give or take. Neither party is ever down for long. Or can you name the last time a political party went out of existance?

  12. bobbo, we think with words says:

#12–Colorectal==so you agree Obama (a Dem) is probably feeling pretty good now?

So how in the world is a blog entry reflecting that fact “jumping the shark” or losing half the audience?

Oh–I see. 50% lib and 50% con and as YOU and “the warden” so revealingly show==you must pander to the conservative audience or they will leave to find those who will. In this instance, pander means avoid the truth if it portrays the Dems in a positive light in any manner whatsoever.

    Loosen the sharks!!!!

    Dittoheads.

  13. bobbo, we think with words says:

#14–polubot==well there is a little bit more: “I think the Democrats are fired up and ready to go. I think Obama has opened up a can of whoop-ass on the Republicans.” /// And this “theme” has been in the national news ever since Obama signed the bill.

I would not call this jumping the shark at all. I would call it “lazy” but Mark Perkel often provides long thoughtful original material. Unless we are all mindless zombies ((ref the book)) surely from time to time we don’t need to be spoon fed an issue and can give Mark a pass? Fill in the gaps ourselves?? Provide our own creativity rather than rely on the editors?

    No?

  14. bobbo, we think with words says:

#15–polybot==politics has always been a mindless pursuit, it is after all an appeal to the masses. Don’t get hysterical or otherwise swayed as this is just business as usual as we continue our long slow death spiral because of that very mindless receptivity.

  15. bobbo, we think with words says:

poly==we find our pleasures where we do. So, a challenge to you ((and it is a trick question already fully displayed for you to see)) take the subject Mark presented and provide us with what would be an appropriate paragraph/argument to make folks like you happy.

After all, honest disagree has to start not just with accurate criticism, but an instructive example as well?

I’ll check back to comment on your work if you choose to do it. Otherwise, I will think your comments are as vacuous and lazy as Perkels post.

    Distinguish yourself.

  16. HistoryTechDoc says:

Dems tried their best to pass President Obama’s Health Care reform bills in 2009. However, the ‘Trojan Horse’ of their Party, Senator Joe Lieberman, used every opportunity to game Senate passage and to thwarts its passage with his constant leveraging of his, no longer, critical 60th vote.
Ironically, normally liberal Democratic voters in neighboring Massachusetts put an end to Joe’s self-serving, obstructionist behavior by electing a Republican to the most devoted senator for health care reform, Senator Ted Kennedy.
Now it’s time for the rest of the Democratic Senate Caucus to have the courage to give the Homeland Committee’s chair position to a real Democrat.

  17. Animby says:

    I’m confused.

What does health care legislation have to do with growing a pear?

  18. Mr Ed says:

Actually, what is needed is something similar to the “Giant Deodorant Guns” in the next post to sanitize the rabid repugs that have simply gone over the edge. This movement is the ruination of America. These tea baggers, who are nothing more than the Klan in better clothes, smell to high heaven, they’re rotten, and they’re destroying Democracy. When Palin asks about your “freedoms” she’s really asking if you elitist bastards have maintained and want to regain your superiority over the niggers.

  19. livefreeordie says:

I never know whether to laugh or sigh when people write that anything Obama has said or done if “extreme Left.” It just shows how “extreme Right” the people that write those things actually are.

  22. Cursor_ says:

No the democrats have not grown a pair. They already had them. As do the republicans. It is the item just above the pair that gets all excited when the corporations call.

Both sides are not working for the citizen of the republic. (And Ed we never had democracy, please put away the dream world made by schoolhouse rock) Both sides are working for those that give them the perks and financing to remain plutocrats.

The wealthy have been the dominate force in the republic since it began. Now the gap is so vast between them and the regular masses, that they feel no empathy and cannot identify in their own lives with us. They can say it speeches, but that is spin. They cannot feel it in their own lives. Lives where if they taste bologna it is because they are eating the high-end beef deli style on purpose, not the cheap chicken/pork stuff out of need.

They hear stats from underlings about poor, hungry, needy but they don’t know what that really is. They are as detached about the reality of most citizens like we would be able to relate to an amoeba. They have no clue.

That is why we have a double digit unemployment. That is why we have a crumbling infrastructure, that is why we have out of control cars, that is why we have debt that threaten our retirement, mortgage foreclosures, etc, etc.

They do not have those things. They have homes, food, expensive European cars, tailored suits, retirement funds, pensions, security teams and all the universal healthcare they and their families will need.

Neither side is on your side. Not unless you are worth more than 1 million dollars in investments, savings, real estate and income. I know I am not worth that. And I don’t think really that voices opinion on this blog is in this boat, save John.

If I am mistaken then, shouldn’t you be watching your portfolio instead of being with us? Maybe a nice game of squash with Reginald or out on the links with your investment advisor and the next door neighbour that made his money by selling untested herbal supplements to people with the promise it grows hair, cleans the liver and makes their wangers hard?

These people are NOT your friends. allies or servants. They are rich people getting richer by keeping their thumb on you. By controlling you. By patronising you. You work for them so they don’t have to.

Oh sure just what we need, a victory dance. Seems to me that would just fan the flames of division. I don’t know if you’ve noticed or not but the more divisive our leaders are, the longer it takes them to get anything done.

  26. Hmeyers says:

I give Obama a lot of credit for getting a health care bill passed.

However, only if the economy surged to unseen levels would the Democrats stand to fare well in the 2010 elections.

    Reasons …

    1) The Democrats hold so many seats. It is not easy to defend a supermajority.

    2) Well, the old “it’s the economy, stupid” wisdom of George Carville and our economy sucks.

Obama is a very likeable guy and managed to get done the key item on the agenda of his election.

Defending the Democratic supermajority is going to be virtually impossible.

The main thing going for the Democrats is how low the Republicans have fallen with the like of the teabaggers and other obstructionists not really presenting an agenda that is going to appeal beyond the red state districts (but Democrats have a lot of these).

  27. Hmeyers says:

Correction: James Carville … duh .. not George Carville, haha.

  28. B. Dog says:

    Well, let’s see…

There’s two stupid wars, the Constitution has been ripped up, the economy is in the toilet with no visible chance of recovery, the Gov’t is buying pork like pigs won’t be around next year, the news media is completely worthless, there’s debts that the grandkids will have to work two crummy jobs to pay, congress has been bought off by fascists, the current crop of kids can’t think for shit, and there are plenty of chances to sleepwalk into more stupidity. Yeah, they can grow Monsanto pears, but they’re poison.

  30. Animby says:

    # 31 Hmeyers said, “I give Obama a lot of credit for getting a health care bill passed.”

I can’t agree with you. As a physician (and somewhat of an idealist) I would actually like to see universal healthcare. But not a bill that is so convoluted it will take years to implement and iron out. Face it, this bill was so bad that it almost didn’t pass UNIlaterally let alone with bipartisan support.

2700 pages. I’d be willing to bet not a single legislator actually read the whole thing. I’d also suspect you could do a Jay Leno man on the street interview and embarrass any member of congress by asking them about what the bill includes. And if that’s not enough, it was passed on faith that that the 2000 pages of amendments and modifications would follow.

It is my opinion you do not solve problems by hiring 16000 new IRS enforcement agents. I am one of those “idiots” who feel the problems could have been solved without such extreme fiscal effects. Expand Medicaid, regulate the insurance industry, tort reform so doctors can stop practicing defensive medicine and a strong emphasis on preventive medicine.

But that’s just me. All I have is a lifetime of medical experience, 25 of those as a physician.
