Regarding the kid talking at JFK:
Someone on a forum yesterday said it best,
“The kid just got a crash course in what it’s like to be an air traffic controller. Starts off fun and exciting but eventually the FAA sucks the fun and life out of you.”
About the Olympic coverage in Canada.
The reason you couldn’t watch any video coverage on the CBC is because CTV had the exclusive rights to the Olympics in Canada. So whenever I wanted to see some highlights I just had to turn to CTV. Which is not a big deal nothing to really complain about.
it is if your American Cable only has CBC or the standard US channels. CTV isn’t available — and there was some hope that the Canadian stations wouldn’t be so dumb in their “color”.
#2:
“The reason you couldn’t watch any video coverage on the CBC is because CTV had the exclusive rights to the Olympics in Canada.”
duh, but the point was that no other station could even provide footage of the olympics as part of the news.
Which wouldn’t be so offensive if the olympics didn’t present itself as some non-commercial amateur event.
The Olympics is an anachronism… wrong games in the wrong century. Only serves the purpose for the Olympic committee, a bunch of cronies.
Bury it!
I enjoyed the documentary, “The September Issue”, too. Not for the subject matter but for the ensemble of insular oddballs who run Vogue Magazine.
@brm
I was correcting them. They were saying that NBC had the exclusive rights to show video in Canada.
@meetsy What are you talking about? Are talking about cable in Canada or the States. If it’s Canada, it’s mandatory for Cable to carry CTV, since it’s a major network. So if you got cable, you have CTV. During the Canada vs. US game at one point 26 million out of 34 million Canadians was watching the game. So how is CTV not available.
Correction for Curry:
You can listen to this American Life for free. Each episode streams, and the episode they quoted can be streamed at http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/391/More-Is-Less
Also, it’s a PRI not NPR show; while they put on a lot of each others’ content; the two are big rivals.
@dillman
US Cable….we’re right across from Victoria and our local cable carries CBC, but not the local Victoria stations, or CTV.
(Odd, so, our Canadian news is CBC. At least we get 22 minutes, so all is not lost.)
Most of the radio stations we get are Canadian…. why are their French only stations in B.C.?
wait, didn’t copy edit…..sorry…should read “why are there French only stations ….” Must be the local I.Q. affecting me, or the water…
Um, this isn’t the 19th Century, John. General officers have uniform regulations that they follow just like everybody else. You may think the Army has too much crap on their Class A’s, which I would agree with coming from the Marine Corps, but that is their uniform.
It is more than appropriate for Gen. Petaeus to be wearing that uniform on a nationally broadcasted television show.
I love the ‘douchebags’ meme but the jingle is subject to the law of diminishing returns. It begins to lose its humor value with overuse.
#12 — I expect it to die and think it’s a short term phenomenon. I doubt you’ll hear it much in about a month.
then again I could be wrong.

Gold..
And here’s what the Chinese allegedly uncovered:
Roughly 15 years ago – during the Clinton Administration [think Robert Rubin, Sir Alan Greenspan and Lawrence Summers] – between 1.3 and 1.5 million 400 oz tungsten blanks were allegedly manufactured by a very high-end, sophisticated refiner in the USA [more than 16 Thousand metric tonnes]. Subsequently, 640,000 of these tungsten blanks received their gold plating and WERE shipped to Ft. Knox and remain there to this day. I know folks who have copies of the original shipping docs with dates and exact weights of “tungsten” bars shipped to Ft. Knox.

Olympic question,
When does a PUBLIC event become PRIVATE??
‘OLYMPIC’ has become a COPYRIGHTED WORD??
HOW does a committee Become a NOT FOR PROFIT(?) corp?
Water..fun subject..
All the water we need for food, as we supply 30% of the world foods.
WATER we divert to refill Aqueducts as the aqueducts have been decimated with with OVER USE in larger cities and NATURE cant keep up..(took mother nature 1000+ years to fill up)..
Pollution of under ground cisterns from MANY sources like chemicals from farms/dairies/Factory dumping/waste sites/…
Changes in regulations..It was once estimated that ground filtration would take water 10 years to reach Aquifers/cisterns has NOW been estimated at 100 years(think how much water that is) which can be dis-proven EASILY..which allows certain companies to DUMP highly toxic materials for 100 years on a piece of ground, and SAY, it wont have an affect for 100 years..
“Reflections on seismic activity in Chile. Another pattern clearly artificial.”
—-
woops, forgot to put the Chile link in..
BTW: Starviewer Team is outof Spain, so its a spanish site. lotta great scientists in spain. You *must* use google translator…yahoo’s babelfish completly destroys *science related* translations. (tho sometimes their Russian isn’t too bad)
Here is a (translation link) to Starviewer Team’s referenced, science breakdown that proves the Chile (like the Haiti) quake was artificial in nature. Google translates the title as follows: “Reflections on seismic activity in Chile. Another pattern clearly artificial.”
Oh, and the translation of the blog Title is: “Mysteries of Astrophysics”

(maybe you nay-sayers can learn something for a change instead of spewing ignorant remarks all the time)
The rant about Gen. Petraeus’ was not that convincing. I’ll agree that the number of personal awards is crazy, but when you spend that much time in the Army and achieve as much as he did it is not surprising. He did get shot in the chest during a live fire exercise and return to duty sooner than his doctor predicted.
You’re partially correct that some of the display is for showman ship, he is an alpha male, probably the top 3 rows only have one or two ribbons in each as it makes the ribbon stack appear more impressive.
Everything else is to standard, including the name tag, I don’t know what that rant was about. I was more surprised that he didn’t wear the new Army Service Uniform instead of the Class A.
Hopefully you’ll spend more time on his interview next show, as that was probably the weakest part of this show and the attack on his uniform seemed petty. Distraction of the week.
Hi John, I’m unable to d/l na-179 from i-tunes and I also can’t get it to stream from your site. ps.NA-180 d/loaded fine
