Esquire’s moving article about famed film critic Roger Ebert is worth reading for many reasons — detailing the unfortunate medical circumstances that have caused him to lose his voice, his jaw and his ability to eat, among other things, but not his ability to communicate or share his love of movies. Reading through the article, I had no intention of writing anything about it for Techdirt, but then I came to a story near the end, also noticed by Justin Levine, concerning how Disney apparently forced offline Ebert’s first show after longtime sparring partner Gene Siskel died:
And a big question: where does the largest shareholder of Disney stand on this, Mr. Steve Jobs.
Found by ECA.
Yeah, I read that interview… Disney just makes me sick.
Disney Corp—2 thumbs down.
Photobucket account inactive! better pay your bill hhopper!
I could suggest that he load them on his own system, and about 20 other INTERNET sites..
photobucket fail.
How about a good ol’-fashioned boycott of Disney?
Ebert has an embedded link — to another web-site (possible run by Disney, but who knows?) — and the link doesn’t work, or the contents has simply been taken down by the other web-site (who have no idea that Ebert has cross-linked to them).
So he immediately assumes the evil Disney corporation is behind this.
Ok, Disney may be evil. But mostly they’re just stupid. And it might simply be a case of another web-site simply deciding not to host the file any more.
Never attribute to malice that which can be easily explained by incompetence.
But we’re talking about a mega-corp that requires you to submit to fingerprinting before you can enter their magical lands.
I’ll attribute this one to malice.
It’s the Happiest place on mutherf*cking earth or else.
#9. T-Timmy! Hah!
Thanks to John for the Esquire Article on Roger Ebert. It was wonderful and uplifting. Bravo!!
The solution is simple: return the copyright length to 14 years. If they did that, then Disney wouldn’t have any right to take down the video and this wouldn’t be an issue. The “piracy problem” would disappear overnight.
Clearly many of you have little to no idea what Disney is capable of. They may make cute cartoons and appeal to kids but their business decisions are devious to say the least.
For fanatics like us here, you can think of it as brainwashing. Brainwash the kids and parents to make you think they are this lovely company that cares about them. How many parents, include yourself of course, will stop supporting Disney in terms of buying their crap? I doubt any of you will. Case in point,
1. Hanna Montanna crap
2. Before Hanna, Lizzy and her anorexic journey
3. Lion King specifically
4. The whole ABC (or CBS, don’t watch TV often) where they get to brainwash millions everyday with the above.
Nice post. Too bad it ends up in a non sequitur.
It’s disgusting that Disney has made billions off of the intellectual property of others that has fallen into the public domain yet guard their own like chubby baby with a lollipop.
FYI,
there are several nicely done Disney cartoons that you should consider watching. You have to look for them though because they are not air any longer. Why?
short answer: Recist 🙂
Go Disney! If only the China or Japan would realize what a dick Disney really is….oh wait, they do. Well, guess we all have to suck up and/or get bribe sooner or later.
That’s Racist! Not recese or recess 😛
