While the iPad was officially announced in January, the iPad will not be available for purchase until late March. However, it seems some iPads have been seeded into the wild as David Vogler claims to have seen one in a New York City Starbucks (photo).

If you’re having trouble waiting for the iPad to arrive, Jess Silverstone, the lead artist for Revolutionary Concepts put together a cut-out of the Apple iPad that you can print yourself.

The cutout is provided in two separate PNG files (iPad Front 664KB and iPad Rear 377KB). Each cutout can fit on standard A4 (8.3 x 11.7 inches) paper, but your printer has to be capable of borderless printing to achieve close to actual iPad dimensions. The real iPad dimensions are 9.56 inches x 7.47 inches x 0.5 inches. They’ve even included a cutout of the A4 processor you can include for “improved performance”.

Here’s what it looks like put together:

  1. Ifool says:

Does it come with a cutout of Jobs too?

  2. Greg Allen says:

What is the boot up time of the paper version?

Is the iPad going to be an “always on” device?

For this “pad” concept to work, it needs to have no boot-up time — either by being always on or by being so fast, it’s perceived as always on.

That’s always been the biggest problem of laptops for reading news — often I just have a few minutes to read the news but it takes a few minutes to boot the darn thing up.

  3. Somebody_Else says:

The cut out version is as useful as the real thing.

  4. Steve S says:

I don’t need to resort to cheap paper cutouts to get an iPad. I already have an improved version that Apple will call the iPad Nano. It does 99.9% of what the iPad can do and is less than half the price of the cheapest iPad model. All of this and it fits in your shirt pocket!
    Amazing!
Available at fine exclusive retail establihments such as Walmart now!

  5. Steve S says:

    Greg Allen said,
“Is the iPad going to be an “always on” device?”
    .
Like it’s close relatives the iPhone and the iPod Touch, the iPad will be always on but will be in “standby” mode when not being used. Press the Home button and it will instantly be ready to use.

  6. Awake says:

Imagine the reaction if Microsoft came out with a tablet for $500 that has:

    – No USB ports at all
    – 16GB of mass storage total
    – Battery that can not be replaced
    – No card reader of any type
    – No camera, neither still nor video.
    – Unable to display Flash embedded in websites.
    – Touch but no stylus capability for detailed pointing.
    – Requires a special separate dock just to connect a keyboard.
    – Runs only ‘toy’ applications because it uses a limited OS.
    – No video output to be able to connect to your TV to watch the movie you just bought online.
    – Limited to only the ‘store’ that the manufacturer authorizes.
    – Restricted to one wireless carrier and then only on a much more expensive version

The Mac disciples would be pointing and shouting “what apiece of crap!”

The iPad, upon careful analysis, is a piece of crap.

    #6,

It is not supposed to be good, it is supposed to be a status symbol.

  8. jobs says:

#6 I’m sure Microsoft will have that very device by fourth quarter and call it the Big-Zune. And everyone will say it’s a iPad killer but no one will buy it.

  9. 888 says:

another fuckpod for the sheeple lol

“It is not supposed to be good, it is supposed to be a status symbol.”
    Exactly!
Every time I see a person with any of the fuckopd-family devices, it is always:

A – a clueless teenager too dumb to figure out how other much better devices work

    or

B – a dumb aging asshole (also clueless) hoping to showoff his “kewlness” to other morons

I’ve been thinking about this a lot over the weekend and my conclusion:

    1. It’ll sell well. Apple is good at this. Sorry guys.

    2. There is a huge market for a completely open competitor. There are small suppliers and manufacturers out there so anyone on this blog could make their own tablet and compete with Apple, Dell, HP, and the rest. Apple is custom building everything, so go to the opposite extreme and use off the shelf parts and an Android OS. Sort of like LocalCars except for tablets. You only need to sell 200 to be in business.
