OK. We know what Colin Powell and Admiral Mullen have to say. Is John McCain a hypocrite or in Republican terms, caught in a Flip-Flop?

  1. god says:

I never underestimate the commitment of a politician to self-serving hypocrisy.

  2. tcc3 says:

McCain’s spent so long kissing republican ass he doesn’t have any of his own opinions anymore.

  3. Dallas says:

McCain basically found that it was too lonely having an opinion of your own.

He needed to rejoin the herd.

  4. Glass Half Full says:

McCain is joke. Like most politicians, especially nutballs like Sarah Palin, they’ll just lie and say whatever it takes to get elected. Oh, you want MORE military, MORE Medicare benefits, keep social security AND want 2 wars AND a tax cut all at the same time? SURE! NO PROBLEM! Do you also want a magic unicorn! My administration will give EVERYONE a magic unicorn is you vote for us, and we’ll stop the gays, blacks and Jews! (cut to politician kissing trophy wife he’s cheating on, while he waves an American flag and stirring music plays)

  5. Mikey Twit says:

Remember when it was only celebrities who were this self deluded that thought “No one will notice/care if I’m a hypocrite”. If McCain doesn’t see the idiocy and stupidity of his flipping, I’ve got to wonder, even though Harold Ford is a Democrat, if McCain’s people are advising this other self deluded idiot.

  6. Glass Half Full says:

This reminds me of Fred Thompson’s horrible run for the Republican nomination. He’d be driven in a limo to NEAR an event, then get out and be given a pickup truck to drive the last mile to the little rally so he could look like a little cute fake cowboy and shit kicker, not the scotch drinking Hollywood phony he really was. And MANY people ate that shit up. I think people basically WANT to be lied to.

  7. Eric Morris says:

    @Glas Half Full

It’s nice of you to throw you two cents around about politics because it’s just son enlightening.

You pretend as though Republicans (since you use two GOP examples) are the ones who hate gays, blacks, and jews. Well, I believe it was Bill who signed DADT into law. The Republican Party was established to end slavery and polygamy. And we are the ones who hate blacks?

I would beg that you take your precious time to read a few history books instead of browsing blogs to spew your hate.

  8. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

Dallas….he’s no longer strong enough to fight Rush or Hannity, plus elections are coming up.

  9. McCain lost the election. He’s a pathetic has been. He’s 1 per cent of the Senate. He has no influence. Let’s turn off the spotlight and forget he exists.

  10. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

Eric morris…you might wish to look at the political situation and social atmosphere surrounding DADT in 1993, not just the date it was made law.

Then tell us…what’s the percentage Republicans who are black, gay, or Jewish? What percentage of those groups is Republican? I’ll wait while you look it up……….

Meantime, as they say on TV, read your Civil War history more thoroughly too…Lincoln Republicans did not remotely resemble today’s conserva-Republicans. Republicans can claim it in name—but not as if today’s party would ever support new rights for anyone. If that were true, and you’re claiming leadership on slavery, suffrage, civil rights…..then same-sex marriage would be a done deal, right?

  11. Republicans hate blacks, Asians, Latinos and gays. Republicans are the new KKK in America.

Republicans also believe the Earth is only 6,000 years old. Idiots.

  12. tcc3 says:

Todays Republicans don’t resemble the ones from 40 years ago, much less the ones from 140 years ago.

  13. Improbus says:

Back before the Chimperor and Darth Cheney I was a nominal Republican. Now I am a properly cynical Independent atheist. As to McCain … he isn’t a “Maverick” anymore, he is just a tired sour old man.

  14. freddybobs68k says:

Don’t worry. Palin to the rescue!

  15. badtimes says:

Olo’s right- he’s up for re-election. I don’t think he’ll speak up in favor of repeal now.
Also re: civil-war era Republicans- right again. They were rabid progressives.

  16. Dr Dodd says:

#12-Animal Mother-Republicans hate blacks, Asians, Latinos and gays. Republicans are the new KKK in America.

You left out the one group Republicans truly do hate and that is liberals. Cowardly, lying liberals…what’s not to hate.

  17. freddybobs68k says:

If you’re interested in another view on whats been going on in America say since WW2 – I saw Speaking Freely: Chalmers Johnson last night. Was a bit of an eye opener.

And the one with John Perkins was pretty good too (which I guess is a similar subject area, albeit from a different angle).

    Both are streamable from netflix.

  18. jescott418 says:

I have to wonder why the change now? I agree with McCain that since we are in two wars why would we make changes now? Are we concerned about eliminating potential recruits not joining the military? I did not know this was a big issue.

  19. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

Dodd, you’re right on the mark…hate is an essential part of being a conserva-Republican today.

  20. JScott says:

Eric Morris said, “it was Bill who signed DADT into law.”

If you were following this at the time you would know that Bill proposed an out right ban. He was attacked so savagely that he was happy to settle for the DADT compromise. Essentially, this allowed everyone to serve with some inconvenience. When we look at these things today we forget the historical context. The gay community was disappointed it did not go all the way but viewed it as progress. It was all they could get through Congress in that climate.

  21. JScott says:

jescott418 said, “why the change now? I agree with McCain that since we are in two wars why would we make changes now?”

Isn’t this just a cop out? We have had 18 years to think about it. If we can fight 2 wars at once then walking and chewing bubblegum at the same time should be child’s play.

I would say that McCain is dishonoring himself by going back on his word but I guess this proves he never had honor in the first place. He’s clearly a good liar though.

  22. Phydeau says:

#17 Don’t hold back Dodd… tell us how you really feel. 🙂

So what happened… a liberal killed your dad? Your mom was a liberal and she kept you in liberal diapers until you were four? A liberal car ran over Fluffy when you were eight? A liberal bully humiliated you in the junior high school cafeteria? Your college girlfriend turned liberal and dumped your sorry ass? You worshiped a liberal politician in your youth and he turned out to be imperfect?

A therapist would have a field day with you… such blind hatred!

  23. Dr Dodd says:

#12-Olo Baggins of Bywater-hate is an essential part of being a conserva-Republican today.

Nothing wrong with a good healthy hate against evil.

In fact it’s a requirement when fighting the oppressive reign of terror we see coming from the Obama administration.

  24. FRAGaLOT says:

this is also the biggest non-issue of the year.

  25. Dr Dodd says:

    #23-Phydeau

Looks like you just gave us a synopsis of your life story.

Pretty boring. No wonder you’re an angry liberal.

  26. JScott says:

I work in NATO where most of the national military organizations here allow gay members. I have yet to see a case where it was an issue.

I must say, I used to be a fan of McCain in my conservative days. This general lack of integrity is why I left the GOP. If you only believe in our system when you win elections, you are a lousy excuse for an American. I wrote a seriously long post about this earlier, though I guess it’s mainly about integrity.

  27. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

    “Oppressive reign of terror.”

That’s got something to do with FEMA camps and death panels, I think. Maybe it’s why all those nuts partisans bought up all the ammo last year.

  28. HereYaGoAgain! says:

It’s amazing how you lefty ass-hats are in denial about your good ol’ negro hanging, gay bashing, jew hating, sheet wearing blue collar Democrat brothers in the south.

Oh and on the issue of John McCain, I saw a report on this issue, so his view of DADT from FOUR years-ago is different than it is today. Hate to break it to you, but that’s called a change of mind, not a flip-flop.

  29. JScott says:

#24 “In fact it’s a requirement when fighting the oppressive reign of terror we see coming from the Obama administration.”

Lol. That’s funny. So along with all that judgment you are passing out, we will find you are as perfect as the other judges of the GOP right? John Ensign, Larry Craig, Mark Sanford, David Vitter, Mark Foley. And that’s before we even get to the TV evangelists.

  30. Phydeau says:

#26 Your hatred is your own punishment. Haters lead miserable lives. And in their misery they lash out at everyone else. You’re a perfect example of that. I’d feel sorry for you if you weren’t so nasty.
