The development model is straightforward. If you’ve done iPhone coding then you’re off and running. More widgets of course, a few new touch metaphors, way more screen real estate, and it looks like you’ll actually use Interface Builder (unlike iPhone dev).

The split screen layout with popover icons on the top seems to be the default UX metaphor. These are a breeze to code.

One big question, can you tether to your iPhone (viva le Canuckistan) since it has Bluetooth?

  2. Rick Cain says:

The HP tablet will be out in Q4 2010….maybe.

  3. McCullough says:

    dump Apple stock…now

  4. Carcarius says:

#34 – haha, good post. Made me laugh.

I think Apple could have nailed this, but blew it on quite a few levels already mentioned here. Last I checked you can read ebooks (pdf) on the iphone/ipod touch. Yes, the screen is smaller, but it is possible and is much less cumbersome. I read ebooks on my MBP. Nothing to see here, at least until 2.0 (like someone else said).

  5. deowll says:

The screen on this thing is about the same size as my netbook but the keyboard…You can’t even plug in a keyboard.

  6. Dallas says:

Just what i expected- oversized ipod touch (which i have).

Seems nice but want to see newpapers, magazines in addition to all the great apps i get for the ipod touch. Look forward to fooling with it to get complete experience.

    Priced reasonable.

  7. Rich says:

    It’s a Mac netbook.

  8. buy r4 dsi says:

Apple’s ipad tablet is the best way to experience the web, email, photos, and video. Hands down. All of the built-in apps on iPad were designed from the ground up to take advantage of the large Multi-Touch screen. And they work in any orientation. So you can do things with these that apps you can’t do on any other device.

  9. bobbo, life starting to pass me by says:

Whats “behind” all this electronic connectivity?

I think its “lack of imagination”/patience.

When I leave my house and my three monitor desktop with connected HDTV, all I take is my cellphone and paperback book.

I think people that take cellphone calls while “with” other people are assholes.

Lack of ability to prioritize and sort a day’s activities. Much like Congress. It is all of a common mindset.

    Whats wrong with me?

  10. qb says:

    pedro: 3 posts (check)
    McCullough: end of Apple (check)
    GregA: loves it (check)
    Howard Beale: gets it (check)

Moderate success in the first rev while Apple guys buy it. 20,000 apps written for it. Second rev growth. Windows 7 versions fail. Android tablets trickle out on clunky hardware. Third rev under the Christmas tree of every soccer mom. Zune Tablet rollout. Millions of alternative tablets in Asia. Android phones selling as well as iPhones finally. Android tablet soon to be on non-clunky hardware (and then they’ll show everyone darn it). Nokia sues Apple saying iPad infringes nGage patents. Ford comes out with OnStar tablet as first real competitor to iPad. Kindle V4 still selling pretty darn well – who would have guessed?

  11. Dale says:

Multitasking? For this luxury feature you must by additional iPuds then connect them together with the new proprietary iRope, that allows you listen to music while you run your fart or other app from the iStore.. I just figured out why most all of Apple’s devices have the i in front of their title: they are all “me” devices..as in It’s my shiny new toy and you can’t touch it! Steve said so! Neenerneener! :p

  12. RTaylor says:

This is a coffee table device. I don’t see the need of GMS, wifi will serve most people. Half the time the TV is on a laptop is in my hands. I own a Kindle v1, and it’s been a love hate affair. The future apps will make or break the device. They lowballed the device, so they couldn’t afford custom or exotic screens. I will try the wifi 32 version, if future failings don’t come out. I don’t do AT&T wireless under any circumstances. If Verizon got it, hell yes. I think AT&T sweetened the deal for Apple. Apple’s getting some cash for staying exclusive with them.

  13. qb says:

Make that 4 posts by pedro. Therefore, sales will skyrocket by the second year.

  14. MrMiGu says:

Once again apple is revolutionalizing computing by releasing a crippled version of a product that has been available for years

  15. LOWER CASE SCREEN NAME says:

Yeah, but can you self flagellate with it?

Load it up and you have a Max iPad.

  16. qb says:

5+ from pedro (fanboi gets extra point) + dog pile from MrMiGu. 100% certain it will be a hit now.

(sent from HTC Dream – it sucks, get a Nexus instead)

  17. ECA says:

    its NOT a laptop…
It probably wont be able to many games..YET

I figure its the C64 in a FLAT..
So why are we going BACKWARDS??

  18. ECA says:

these are NET/CLOUD machine more then anything. they NEED/WANT you to pay for a service. They will restrict ANY form of transfer OTHER then controlled ones.
It will be hard to buy them without a CONTRACT.

    Another point is itunes.

Another point is the same problem as iphone..
    Contracts:
    Apple
    Itunes
    ATT??

Another is iphone is on WHAT version?? 3-4?? and the older versions are NOT the same as the new ones?? Wait for the new versions.

  19. f_w says:

Of all the complaints, the one about the name is just moronic.
    WHO CARES!
    There are enough valid ones.
    Still a nice 1.0 application.
We all know it is going the same way as the iphone with upgrades pretty frequently.
And that is not really a bad thing, those like me who can wait will do so, and those who are either geek heads, fan boys or actually have a use for one will get one, and thus fund further development and a version in the future with all those extras some of us want in it before handing our cash over.
I am interested in seeing the Google nexus? pad, as i can imagine an oled screen, exchangeable battery’s, multitasking and an actual usb 3 port on it.
    Gah, this thread is long.

  20. f_w says:

Oh and i would not mind much if it was half the size too.
    Preferable without the black frame.

  21. qb says:

Sorry pedro, you don’t hurt my feelings. Honestly, you actually make my day.

  22. It looks great. Only beef I have is that instead of making it a computer, with MacOSX built in, it looks like they made it in iPod Touch, with a better processor. Is that accurate? And if so, how does it impact the device’s ability to act as a netbook for people? Will they be able to do regular word processing, printing, etc? Will they be able to hook it up to a keyboard and use it like a desktop when people are at home or work?

  23. kids games says:

I also think I will wait for the HP Table

  24. The iPad is a tablet computer, Its just great! i wish to have one. Thanks for review!

  25. Easy Ways To Make Money says:

Just another piece of overpriced over hyped junk that the macbots will lap up and defend against any reasonable criticism from the non-coo laid drinkers.

  26. Just another piece of overpriced overhyped junk that the macbots will lap up and defend against any reasonable criticism from the non-coolaid drinkers.

  27. Amberen says:

I still think the iPad is a stupid name. Reminds me of the MADtv sketch of the same name…youtube it if you don’t know what I mean 😉

  28. I think, this much hyped IPad is yet another product which as similar as Iphone. A little more from Apple, but do we think we really need this.

There are many cellphones which have drastically reduced their price and is now very affordable, hope the Ipad too will be one of this kind.

  29. jeff says:

the HP tablet will be out in Q4 2010….maybe.

  30. r4i says:

I am still an iPhone, which already has all my games, e-mail, web browsing and apps.I obtain low-cost netbook, this does nothing to happen, is the first contact.
