VATICAN CITY – Pope Benedict XVI has a new commandment for priests struggling to get their message across: Go forth and blog.

The pope, whose own presence on the Web has heavily grown in recent years, urged priests on Saturday to use all multimedia tools at their disposal to preach the Gospel and engage in dialogue with people of other religions and cultures.

And just using e-mail or surfing the Web is often not enough: Priests should use cutting-edge technologies to express themselves and lead their communities, Benedict said in a message released by the Vatican.

Cripes!

  1. I’d comment about this but they would have to put me in the Jehovah’s Witness Protection Program.

  2. Shubee says:

Where has this pope been hiding? Catholic priests have been on the internet for years, mostly in chat rooms with young teens.

  3. Dallas says:

    Eleven commandments sounds incomplete.

A dozen or maybe a bakers dozen but not eleven.

Uh… why the picture of the wrong pope?

And, of course, one of his nun’s is already a regular contributor here!

I don’t understand what the “cripes” is about. So the Holy Father has given his blessing for using the web for evangelization and delivering the good news. It’s past time really. There are probably a fair number of priests who will do a better job writing up blogs and websites than managing parishes anyway; I can think of a couple here at home who have the brains but not the gift of reaching out. Better teachers and orators than “doers”.

Oh and to you idiots who have to make do about pedophiles, quit wasting your time here and go back to your one-handed surfing. Your cache contents probably put you in the “log in the eye” category.

  9. Cephus says:

Unfortunately, I think that a lot of priests who are unaccustomed to discussion and debate online are in for a serious shock as their beliefs will be shredded quite handily and they’ll be forced to run away with their tails tucked firmly between their legs or admit that they’re wrong about the whole religion. Most priests (and pastors for that matter) are unused to people challenging the very basics of their faith and often, knowing as much or more about the basis for said faith than the priest does.

That’s why online, you usually get the fanatics who preach the same oft-disproven line over and over and over and the people who keep their mouths shut because they know nobody will take them seriously if they try to proselytize.

Reminds me of a Nigerian banker.
