I don’t know what Haiti and Israel have to do with each other.
With Haiti, we don’t get much in return, BUT
With Israel, we get a proxy through whom we can create all sorts of problems and start meaningless wars!
$2.5 Billion to Haiti, even with a 50% waste factor would be enough money to let every Hatian move someplace else…. Or to lift them to a standard of living better than the average US taxpayer….
If an earthquake hit Tel Aviv, bHo and his cronies in the US probably would send $100M to Hamas….
IAC, the figure give is an “initial” amount, not a cap, and the whole story is unrelated to US support of Israel.

Ya sure Israel was the best refueling point in the Middle East for a long time. But now US has Afghanistan and Iraq so Israel is not needed so much and the bribes should come down. But the instability of Iraq and Afg. are still pretty bad so I guess we’re not yet quite able to stop feeding Israel if we want to maintain dominance in power projection over there.

In the past the main problem with sending money to Haiti is the massive rampant corruption at all levels which no doubt still exists.
Looking at what is going on in Washington now…I’ve completely lost track of how many different special interest groups have been sold out to in the Health Care Bill. I know who’s going to get the shaft though; We the people.

Every western country receives book “military aid” from the USA, which seems to be estimated by the same accounting people who handle estimates of Hollywood revenues. Uncle Sam flew to Antarctica to deliver an ice making machine to Admunsen Base through New Zealand airspace? That’s aid to NZ. Someone buys an Aussie general a round of drinks in Honolulu? That’s aid to Australia. Some one gave a Somalian kid a Coke? You get it.

Actually, any military aid given to Israel (and other countries – Egypt, forex, gets more than a billion a year) must be spent by buying American made products, so in essence this is the administration giving aid to the military-industrial complex.
With a population of about 8 million, it comes out to $12 per Haitian, probably $2 after the skim.

As for Cherman comparing apples to crocodiles: emergency disaster relief is not the same as military aid and in pretty much all cases, Israel is not Haiti. So, IF you had a point, other than misdirection, please make it more clearly.

First of all this isn’t JCD’s post. Israel can be somewhat of a loose cannon when trying to employee Middle East diplomacy. Administrations has employed this aid as a way to illicit cooperation in the past. By the way the military products Israel buys are normally upgraded to a better product than our troops get. Anyone remember the early days of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle? The Israeli orders were upgraded with additional armor because they deemed it as unsafe. The first ones were.

I have been to Haiti. I think 100 million is enough to rebuild the entire city of Port au Prince to the condition it was in last week.
