  1. Johnny plays a pretty good fiddle says:

lol, this is an even better theory…

  2. Hirvox says:

Personally, I think that the success of Avatar is due to two factors. It is technically well-made movie. Cameron is a competent director, and the use of 3D is significantly better than the other 3D movies out there, which tend to shove the effects right up to the user’s face.

But more importantly, it is a preachy movie. It’s primary message is the same message as Pocahontas, Ferngully, Dances with Wolves and the Last Samurai: Nature and natives living in harmony with it are inherently superior to western “civilization”, and the westeners can reach greatness and atone by renouncing their old beliefs and leading the natives.

The side message is the Gaia theory: that the planet itself is in itself a hive mind. In Pandora, trees are literally talking to each other via the neural network formed by their interconnected roots. If one has a hippie/New Age mentality, then Avatar is a wish fulfillment fantasy: A world where you can literally talk to a tree and recieve ageless wisdom by attaching your neural ponytail to a branch. Or becoming soulmates with your pets. That Avatar depression story is about those kinds of people realizing that the real world isn’t as great as Pandora.

Avatar is preaching to the choir. If one agrees with the messages, then one naturally thinks that Avatar is the best movie ever. Great messages, great execution, what’s not to like?-) But if not, then the cognitive dissonance kicks into full gear. You will hate every scene and not understand what the big deal is.

I go with #2.Clearly the movie is Utopian fantasy and if you buy in to it then it is the best movie ever. On the other hand this vision isn’t going to be for everyone because no vision is.

Prudent people will keep an eye open for what ever the GM people are up to. It can be good or bad or just not work.

H1N1 does appear to have been way overblown but new flu strains are constantly appearing. I ran the numbers early on and checked the better sources and didn’t take the shot.

Haiti was a an economic disaster area mainly due to a corrupt government before the earthquake and now it is ruin. How to help a country infected with human parasites is hard to figure.

Pat Robertson is a false prophet.

We don’t have a power source big enough to make a big quake. You could pump water into a fault and get slippage but how much would be a WAG.

The Saudi military is now at war with Yemen rebel factions. Since the Iranians are funding the rebels according to my data it may be that the ruling house of Saudi may not be that fond of the Iranians though private thoughts and public words may not match.

People are still trying to make money off climate change. The climate is going to change and we aren’t going to be consulted.

    I’m going to bed.

  4. Zbrink says:

I totally agree with John, give the art work guys a shout out from time to time because most often the stuff that is made is really good. In general, give any contributor credit for their efforts. Shows generosity and appreciation.

T-shirts… what kind of t-shirts? Would be interesting to see them since you like them so much. Maybe something you could offer to the rest of us?
