Copenhagen climate summit in disarray after ‘Danish text’ leak | guardian.co.uk — This fiasco gets funnier by the minute.

The UN Copenhagen climate talks are in disarray today after developing countries reacted furiously to leaked documents that show world leaders will next week be asked to sign an agreement that hands more power to rich countries and sidelines the UN’s role in all future climate change negotiations.

The document is also being interpreted by developing countries as setting unequal limits on per capita carbon emissions for developed and developing countries in 2050; meaning that people in rich countries would be permitted to emit nearly twice as much under the proposals.

The so-called Danish text, a secret draft agreement worked on by a group of individuals known as “the circle of commitment” – but understood to include the UK, US and Denmark – has only been shown to a handful of countries since it was finalised this week.

Are the Russians good or what?

  4. joe s says:

Sabotaged by the Russians. Suported by Cherman. Does he work for the KGB? Something is very fishy here.

Why are you not reporting that the Russian KGB were behind the leaking of the emails. This is huge. Now this leak ??? hmmmmm

“the circle of commitment”, what kind of idiot comes up with a name like that?

  6. LibertyLover says:

    BWAHAHAHAHA!

  7. The0ne says:

I have to admit, this is pretty funny 🙂

  8. Pete says:

It is important, I suppose, to know whether humans are changing the environment. But it really doesn’t matter, because we really aren’t going to do anything to really change our behavior anyway. Environmentalists will always be against nuclear power, even though it is carbon-free. Developing nations will still want improved standards of living, and who can blame them? In the end, nothing changes, except Al Gore becomes more insufferable.

  9. Mr Diesel says:

    This is just too funny.

  10. RBG says:

A secret draft agreement “understood” to include the UK, US and Denmark with a “confidential analysis” of the text by developing countries – all sounds a bit fishy to me.

Were these developing nations never to be given a look at this agreement?

Yeah! The status quo wins. Our grandchildren are screwed! This is friggin’ fantastic!

    John, your cynicism is unbelievable.

It’s like they’re begging for protesters.

  14. Tim says:

Opps, now they say it’s a false alarm. That’s an old document. Nothing to see here.

The UN is being handed it’s hat.

  16. rectagon says:

So does that mean the one world government is going to be delayed yet again? Dang. These people can pull off the blowing up the world trade centres but can get a CO2 agreement? I suggest it’s time to replace the Illuminati with another, more efficient world controlling entity. I suggest former Enron execs.

  17. Faxon says:

Dopenhagen. (I invented the term, and expect full credit).

  18. BipBop says:

Credit to Faxon.. Dopenhagen it is!

  19. Scotto says:

“Circle of Commitment” Are they frakking serious? That could easily be shortened to “Circle of Come”.

  20. Dallas says:

    Predictable.

The developed nations can’t reduce their per capita pollution rates to sustain their economies. The emerging nations need to increase the per capita pollution rates so they can all drive a Humvee to the fishing hole.

    We are screwed!!

Actually… your kids are screwed. I feel better now.

  21. Phydeau says:

If this is true, it sounds like the World Bank stuff where they put lots of onerous conditions on loans to poor countries… the rich get richer and the poor get screwed!

What’s that old statistic… the U.S. has 5% of the world’s population but consumes 25% of its resources? The developing countries see our wealth and want it too. God help us all…

  22. Mr Diesel says:

“Circle of Jerk” I want credit for that one……

  23. Scotto says:

    “… your kids are screwed.”

More arable land, longer growing season, at the expense of not being able to build on sandbars and atolls. Sounds fair to me.

If Humankind WAS able to customize the climate, I think we might choose warmer rather than colder. Don’t ya think?

I’ll believe Jerry Pournelle over Al Gore any day.

  24. amodedoma says:

The way I see it there are 2 lines of thought, or we should do something, or we shouldn’t. Those that think we shouldn’t are trying really hard to convince everyone that it’s all a scam. Those that think we should are trying really hard to convince us that the end is near. This kind of bullshit just stokes an endless and fruitless debate.
The human individual may be a genius, but the human race is a big dumb superstitious beast. If the human race is put to the test it will almost certainly fail as current events make all too clear.

  25. bobbo, change is all about maintaining the status quo says:

It makes sense. Rich countries have a history “a culture” if you will of emitting/using more carbon. It would be disrespectful not to enshrine this life style.

Similarly, the third world has always been rife with disease, war, and hunger. These too should be allowed in higher numbers to honor their history.

Nothing will change except the empty speech used to address the issues.

  27. Give me ten minutes alone with one of these global warming fruitcakes
How come I have to get my furnace repaired here in the sub-tropical Winnipeg Canada winter conditions
Currently its a balmy minus 19 degrees Celsius which works out to a balmy -2 degrees Fahrenheit
I can only wait for the summery global warming temperatures of a cold Winnipeg winter on January nights
Try minus – 40 degrees ranges – Celsius or Fahrenheit whatever your little global warming heart desires
How come I never meet any of those devoted Greenpeace people here
Guess they stay in granola belt Vancouver

  28. Dr Dodd says:

Let’s see here… leaked emails exposing the global warming fraud and now this. Could it be someone is purposefully sabotaging the One-Worlders from completing their evil designs of world domination?

    I think so.

  29. bobbo, change is all about maintaining the status quo says:

Dr Dodd–its all about different One-Worlders competing against one another. Energy based One-Worlders vs Third World We Want to Eat One-Worlders.

    Nothing changes.

Makes me think the “most likely” impetus for some kind of big change in the world will be the irrational use of a nuclear weapon.

Old dying committed true believers with Nukes will not go quietly.

  30. amodedoma says:

    #27 Winnipeg

-19C is about average december low there.
You might try a more temperate clime if you’d like to save money on heating. Winnipeg is as cold as it gets for a city of that size. I suppose you haven’t checked into alternative heating methods? Perhaps a solar supplement setup? Or does the government have to do it for you?
