Slashdot – Nov. 15, 2009:

At a UN-sponsored Internet Governance Forum in Egypt, anti-censorship group Open Net Initiative was startled by a demand from UN officials to remove a poster mentioning Chinese Net censorship. When ONI refused the request, security personnel arrived and took away the poster. The group was promoting a new book, Access Controlled, a survey of Internet censorship, filtering, and online surveillance. A witness said, “The poster was thrown on the floor and we were told to remove it because of the reference to China and Tibet. We refused, and security guards came and removed it. The incident was witnessed by many.”

Tibet, Tibet, Tibet, slavery, slavery, slavery. There, that clears out the mainland Chinese.

  2. Zybch says:

The point of that video was as clear as mud.
If it wasn’t for the chyron at the start I doubt anyone would have a clue what was supposed to be occurring.

  3. Floyd says:

Simple solution: don’t allow the UN to be at the next “Internet Governance Forum,” since the UN apparently don’t understand that what they did is censorship, and violates the UN Charter.

  4. Luc says:

China can’t be bad. They hosted the Olympic Games.

    Ditto.

Then we would have to translate them for everyone else.

  10. Mark T. says:

Jägermeister, nicely done. Now China and the UN will have to ban binary to ASCII converters.

  11. Ah_Yea says:

The great firewall of China RULES!

And believe me, it works. Most Chinese are as naive as the day they were born.

It helps keep the sheeple docile.

  12. Mac Guy says:

The United Nations was formed so that the world may aspire to something greater than what already was, using freedom as its beacon.

Sadly, these aspirations are stifled when the UN lacks the balls to tackle one of the greatest oppressors of freedom in the world: the Chinese.

  13. Angry says:

Welcome to the New World Order…

  14. Cursor_ says:

    #13 Angry.

You mean the Old World Order.

There is no new world order it is the same old one with a dab of paint and some new trim.

  15. MikeN says:

Not surprising. Free speech groups tend to be the most censorious. Just look at how they kicked Lou DObbs off the air.

  16. Hmeyers says:

The United Nations represents retrograde societies.

    You heard it here first.

Oh Wait! Everyone has been saying this all along.

    Nevermind.

World government? If that’s world government, they can go F themselves.

  17. pedro is retarded says:

No matter what the story is we know this:

    pedro is retarded.

He is the product of two morons who bred and created an idiot spawn that should have been killed at birth.

I was just getting bored with my “JimR”… but can could imagine one of Alfred1’s posts in code? Yikes!

  19. Privacy is dead and everyone is free to obey.

From the early 1930’s many nations listen to every frequency that transmits. Today microwaves to cell phone conversations are recorded – I know – I did this for NATO in the seventies.

Access Controlled is here to stay – just like illegal nukes in North Korea, Israel, India, Pakistan and soon to be Iran and a bunch of other Muslim nations. Guess the non-proliferation signatories should force all those that have illegal nuclear weapons to give them up or let everyone have some. It wouldn’t take Canada too long to make them…

“I’ve seen the future… and it is murder.” Leonard Cohen summed it up well.

Hope our childrens children are wearing seatbelts as it’s gonna be a bummpy ride!
