You might not like what the Democrats are doing, but can anyone actually say they think the Republican party is worthy of public office? It’s like they keep pulling dirty tricks but end up being the ones caught. Potential supporters who oppose Obama & Co. only see jack-booted clowns running the Republican show.

Barack Obama’s most devilish political move since the 2008 campaign was to appoint a Republican congressman from upstate New York as secretary of the Army. This week’s election to fill that vacant seat has set off nothing less than a riotous and bloody national G.O.P. civil war. No matter what the results in that race on Tuesday, the Republicans are the sure losers. This could be a gift that keeps on giving to the Democrats through 2010, and perhaps beyond.
[…]
That this pastoral setting could become a G.O.P. killing field, attracting an all-star cast of combatants led by Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, William Kristol and Newt Gingrich, is a premise out of a Depression-era screwball comedy. But such farces have become the norm for the conservative movement — whether the participants are dressing up in full “tea party” drag or not.

The battle for upstate New York confirms just how swiftly the right has devolved into a wacky, paranoid cult that is as eager to eat its own as it is to destroy Obama. The movement’s undisputed leaders, Palin and Beck, neither of whom have what Palin once called the “actual responsibilities” of public office, would gladly see the Republican Party die on the cross of right-wing ideological purity. Over the short term, at least, their wish could come true.

  1. Guilherme Cherman says:

    Ron Paul!

  2. MrWindows says:

Obviously written by a left-wing nutjob. First, the Republican candidate dropped out today, clearing the way for Hoffman, the Conservative Party candidate backed by Palin, Fred Thompson and others in the conservative wing of the GOP.
Second, those of us who define ourselves as conservative Republicans really don’t want to be a facsimile of the Democratic party. We have our ideology, you may not understand it, you may not agree with it, and that’s OK. We don’t need you to. Those that feel the same way we do will join us in taking back the Republican Party from the RINO’s. We are Reagan Republicans. We are Nixon Republicans. We are Eisenhower Republicans. We are NOT McCain Republicans. Be on notice. We have our own ‘Big Tent’. We can’t all be defined as right-wing Cristian fanatics, but we love God, we love our Country, and we want it to be better.

  3. Cap'nKangaroo says:

Welcome to my world. We Republicans in North Carolina have been experiencing this circus since the days of Jesse Helms.

  5. Loupe Garou says:

“You might not like what the Democrats are doing, but can anyone actually say they think the Republican party is worthy of public office?”

Unfortunately I do not and it’s a crying shame. It’s like the time in Louisiana when the choice for Governor was David Duke (racist, Klan, etc.) and Edwin Edwards (now in prison). The local slogan was “I’d rather vote for the crook than the bigot” or something like that.

I think Obama, Reed, Emanuel, Pelosi, et al. form the perfect political storm to sink this country. I just hope we find a qualified opponent in time.

  6. Phydeau says:

We can only hope that the wacko wingnuts take over the Republican party! Better for America and the Democratic party.

  7. StoopidFlanders says:

Once again; rather than actually do anything constructive, the democrat liars resort to blaming someone else in order to take attention away from their own failures.

  8. jbenson2 says:

Wow! Uncle Dave is really losing it. His flaky attempt at PhotoShop tied in with nonsense, help explain why the Democrats are really getting worried about their future in 2010.

  9. Uncle Dave says:

#8: Who said I created the photo? And who said I was a Democrat? I disagree with much of what the Dems support. However, I disagree with much more of what the Repubs support, especially on social issues.

  10. cheapdaddy says:

Don’t confuse Conservatives with Republicans! Not all Republicans are conservative and not all Conservatives are Republicans.

  11. Mr. Fusion says:

    #2, Mrs Windows,

With a name like that, you shouldn’t be throwing stones.

First, the Republican candidate dropped out today,

RTFA. That’s an acronym for “read the effen article”.

Those that feel the same way we do will join us in taking back the Republican Party from the RINO’s. We are Reagan Republicans. We are Nixon Republicans. We are Eisenhower Republicans.

Hhmmm, Reagan, and I suppose you are going to tell us he beat the Soviets and won the Cold War.

And Nixon, were you aware of all the social incentives suggested and even implemented by Nixon. For example, did you know he even suggested a more far reaching Health Insurance Plan than that being proposed by the Democrats?

Oh ya, Eisenhower. Two of the largest social infrastructure initiatives ever taken by this country. The St. Lawrence Seaway and the Interstate Highway Project. Not to mention the massive amounts of money used to build new schools in the growing suburbs and huge investments in military equipment that mostly fell apart on the bases.

So those are the types of Republicans you emulate. OK, so why again do you support Hoffman?

We are NOT McCain Republicans. Be on notice. We have our own ‘Big Tent’. We can’t all be defined as right-wing Cristian fanatics, but we love God, we love our Country, and we want it to be better.

Oh ya, that’s why. Because you decided McCain isn’t radical enough. Then you don’t like the term “Right Wing Christian Fanatics” even though you are. You love your “guy in the sky” so much you want me to make my kid love him too. Like that is ever going to happen. And you love your country so much your leaders have loudly proclaimed they want America to fail.

Well everyone else wants this country to be better too. Only our idea of being better doesn’t benefit only the top 1/2 of 1% at the expense of the rest of America.

  12. Floyd says:

There used to be a time, particularly in the Midwest (I’m from Indiana originally) when both parties would put up viable candidates for office, and people could choose between them for the best candidate. Now, both parties have become wingnutty, and those of us that are moderates have to vote for the lesser of two evils.

  13. dick dawkins says:

#11 How’s that strawman working for you Fusion? You really need to get a handle on your paranoia.

  14. bill says:

I wonder what form of ‘government’ will evolve from this freaking mess..

    Any ideas?

  15. Breetai says:

Ron Paul is the only Republican in the party. He’s the only politician in the US demanding that his own authority be limited.

Every other Republican is just a NeoCon Fascist… Just like Obama.

  16. Great American says:

Hey Aunt Dave (see what I did there…),

What’s with putting bozo noses on those six great Americans? Is that supposed to be funny and drive up page views? If anything, Rush, Sean, Glenn, Ann, Sarah and that Independent O’Reilly will help us take back America and being it back to being #1 in the world.

I’ll take jingoism any day over some mumbling navel-gazer who apologizes for America’s awesomeness. That’s right Barry O, I’m talking to you!

  17. Thinker says:

Am I the only conservative who thinks this is a good thing? I want the GOP to hash these things out and cultivate some leadership. Not the kind in those 6 photos.

There’s going to be great stuff to take on Obama, Pelosi, and Clinton when they all run for the DNC nomination in a few years.

  18. ScrewHistory says:

Here’s a radical idea… Eliminate both the Republican and Democrat parties and any other ones… Just elect you local “politician” to office. Once there, they would vote on issues based on their conscience and the wishes of their electorate…

I get the feeling a lot more would actually get done in the government!

It terminates over 200 years of history of a dual-party system, but I’m not so sure it was ever a good idea…

Note, I’m NOT advocating a “one party” system either… Rather, absolutely no parties at all… Every senator and congressman would essentially be an independent. No more voting along party lines regardless of how inane it is (protecting rape policies of government contractors comes to mind).

It sure sounds like it might be a good idea… but I also realize it’ll never happen. Heck, even the dog catcher has to get elected.

  19. Ah_Yea says:

It’s going to be a laugh factory when the party of “imploding” takes over from the party of “change” in 2012.

  20. Jägermeister says:

    #19 – Ah_Yea

Wishful thinking. Republican men won’t have any testosterone left after the 2012 election.

  21. Zardoz says:

hmmm What do Eisenhower, Nixon and Reagan have in common? They’re all dead. Republicans are the party of the past, the tea baggers and the bible thumpers. Maybe they should go back to their roots and rename themselves the Whigs.

  22. troughle says:

I am so sick of the bashing and finger pointing it is getting ridiculous. Stick to what matters, what are you going to do to make a difference and implement that change. It is a shame that for the past 3 presidents we always seem to get into a bashing contest from the opposing party without getting any solutions out there. Can we get back to what they are elected for (to serve the people not their egos). Geez.

  23. Ah_Yea says:

    Jägermeister. Ha Ha Ha!!

That was funny! Comparing Republican men who may loose their testosterone in 2012 to Democratic men who lost their testosterone in the 60’s.

  24. SimonSezz says:

The truth of the matter is, the general public is quickly losing their belief in religion. Just look at recent studies that show how many less people practice religion compared to forty years ago. The Republican party values are centered around these religious beliefs so therein lies the problem.

I’m independent, I’m pretty much in the center, maybe sometimes Left of center (healthcare) or Right (immigration).

I think in 2012 Obama will be re-elected. Look at W. Bush and how bad his first four years were and he still managed to get re-elected for a second term.

As for the right wing complaining about Obama’s spending, I think they need to look back a couple years at the Iraq war which will end up costing over a trillion dollars, and the loss of life (4,350+ from the U.S. side alone). Yes, that’s right folks, it’s OK for our govt to spend money as long as it is to KILL people, not SAVE people with national health-care.

  25. StoopidFlanders says:

    24. Bush was killing terrorists in the Iraq war. They don’t qualify as people. You managed to make it through those 8 years without getting blown up by a suitcase nuke, so consider yourself lucky and show a little respect for your betters.

  26. SimonSezz says:

25, if that is what you believe, then you support the national health-care option correct? Because then we would be spending money to save innocent lives inside the country. Or is that where the double-standard begins?

  27. StoopidFlanders says:

There’s a big difference between being safe from being exploded by an islamo-facist bomb, and running to the doctor every time you get a hangnail. What I hear from the dirty libs is: waaaa! I’ve got the sniffles, save me government!

  28. cfk says:

The wager here seems to be that 9+ months of Democratic rule will inspire voters (particularly moderate and socially/economically progressive Republicans) to embrace the thoroughly conservative Hoffman. Fair enough. Place your bets. Forgive those of us who witnessed the Democrats’ 1972 circular firing squad our skepticism. By and large, those who bet on the cleansing fire of third party politics have no one to blame but themselves when they suffer third degree burns.

  29. Jeff P. says:

Better watch out Uncle Dave, your liberalism is showing. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and acts like a duck, it’s a duck. You can go on till you’re blue in the face saying that you run the middle ground Dave, but the proof is in the pudding. All your comments prove that you are not only left leaning, but WAY left leaning. At least John sits close to the middle ground. That’s the only reason I keep visiting. It’s sure not because of you.

  30. StoopidFlanders says:

I’ll be wary of the republicans until I see some actual progress being made by them. They can start by immediately impeaching Barack Hussein Obama. After that, they will have my support.
