How much does it cost to live in a shit hole like that?
Absolutely asstastic.
You’re gonna get a picture like that anywhere in the world if you just snap a pic of any typical urban rooftops.
I love New York and urban setting!
Rather rather live there than the sterile, pedestrian free, drive everywhere, strip mall infested, walled garden, unsocial environment of the suburbs.
I count 3 murders happening in this photo…
The picture reminds me of a bad game of SimCity.
Unless it is a marquis building, nobody in NYC cares what the outside of anything looks like.
What’s the deal with these high res pics that have been posted lately? What’s the back story? I think they are cool, just wondering.
Where’s the lever to flush?
I’ve been working in NYC for a year and a half now. When I go home, everyone asks me, “So, how’s New York.” My response is always the same, “It’s dirty and it smells like piss.” This is especially true for the LES.
Anyone who would prefer this place to the suburbs might want to get their head checked.
Now I’m off to stroll along the Manhattan Greenway overlooking the beautiful East River.
The rooftops look dirty. But the streets seem remarkably urine and fecal-free (for New York).
Oh man, what a crap hole.
Why is it that whenever I turn on the TV, all I hear is praise for New York City, but when I talk to real people, all I hear is complaints and regret?
“New York City? Git a rope!”
A good power washing and starbucks will be there next week.
The New Yorkers I’ve met have loved to complain about it, but it seems like it was a badge of honor — they loved living there and wouldn’t live anywhere else.
Personally, I think a lot of the grime problem would be solved if they required all the taxis to be hybrids.
This picture could be any city three or four blocks from the down town core. It could be Boston / Chicago / Philly / Pittsburgh / Richmond / Memphis / St. Louis / Dallas / Cleveland / …
I’ve been in too many of them to think they don’t all look and smell the same. Most have their own bar scene, specialized restaurants, and local attractions. And yes, they are the same attractions as the next city. The same blues bars with the same acts, the same BBQ rib joints cooking the same ribs, the same special delis selling the same sandwiches, the same Chinese Buffets with Mexican cooks all from the same extended family.
And if you didn’t know which city you were in, you would have a hard time guessing. Only New York has more of it and better good stuff.
No one has answered my question … how much does an apartment in that shit hole run?
Still looks better than most cities in china, including Hong Kong.
#18 check out Craigslist NYC.
Probably too much for anything decent.
#8 these are actually backed off from the 4000×3000 native resolution
#18, Improbus,
Well it depends.
A cardboard Republican Penthouse with “Kenmore” printed on the side are usually pretty cheap. From free to maybe a couple of bucks. Many people don’t like living in old refrigerator boxes though. The “Whirlpool, Side by Side” are usually used by homeless couples.
Top level condos can run well over $10 million. And that is if the condo board think you are worthy of living there.

And there are a few inbetween.
Big cities generally suck. NY more so. That’s why at worst I will live in a town surrounded by countryside.
Auckland and Hamilton NZ were nice.
Seriously. I dont get the graffiti thing. Who would hang 6 stories above the pavement to paint some nonsense on a wall. (See bldg. in middle of pic).
It’s fun to read all the comments from people that are afraid of the LES.
Trust me, your desire to stay away is only surpassed by our desire to keep you away.
update the electrical and plumbing, and sell off FLATS at HIGH PRICES..
#17 Ahh, the beauty lies in the beholder.
While I live near downtown Dallas (Highland Park), I admire the character and color of urban living. NYC, San Francisco are all favorites.
I used to live in the suburbs and wondered if anyone actually lived in those huge cardboard McMansions. It wasn’t until Halloween when a saw a couple of pedestrians. Not for me, sorry.
It actually works really well. The stuck up, fat, Republicans and their frustrated wives are all kept far away. I only go there to when I want to see what a Walmart looks like.
Looks like Anytown USA, just bigger.

Just be glad you don’t. Foremost it’s a pride thing, “Yea, we can do this and you can’t.” Foolish, but like everything else it’s driven by competition and recognition.
#18 If you have to ask… you can’t afford it.
#27 Dallas
Highland Park is a lovely area. I think it has a few McMansions as well or are they true mansions? I was there for Fiesta Day one year and I can see why you like it.
The Dallas Morning News

“Last fall, at Highland Park High School, some students wore Afro wigs, fake gold teeth and baggy jeans as part of Thug Day, an unofficial event for seniors. Eighteen students were sent to the office for inappropriate attire, according to school district officials. Separately on Fiesta Day, which was to honor Hispanic heritage, one Highland Park student brought to school a leaf blower.”
