I wonder if Win7 has the same odd behavior as Vista reported did of automatically contacting servers at Halliburton, DoD and Department of Homeland Security when first connected to a network.

What is with the opening? Why must you always kill granny?
Different phones John.
So they want to kill Hulu, eh? Good thing we still have bittorrent. Stupid suits still don’t get it.
I’d sort of like to stick a blue ray drive in my desk top to go with 30 inch monitor but then the anti copying crap ware wouldn’t let it work so bleep it.
The suits are crazy.
Not trying to thread jack here, just voicing a general concern:
I am a John C Dvorak fan living in Washington State. When I logged in to Dvorak Uncensored I was rather shocked to see sponsorship by eHarmony. eHarmony is a homophobic company that actively discourages gays and lesbians from using their services.
One of the things I appreciate about Dvorak, on the blog, and on T.W.i.T., is that I have never gotten the sense that he was interested in putting down his gay and lesbian fans. I could be wrong, but over the years I cannot recall any public insults or snide comments from him on that subject. Cloud computing – that’s another matter!
I am writing you to ask that you reconsider accepting money from eHarmony. I arrange my life so that the sites I visit don’t cross paths with people who wish me ill. And I certainly don’t want to give them a page view.
Thanks for your consideration.
I can’t see why it’s bad news for XBox because they don’t have a Blu-Ray add-on. The add-on would never be used for gaming and the add-on would probably cost more then a cheap stand alone Blu-Ray player so…?
#6 – Sean, are you a fudgepacker?

Blu-Ray will be dead in 2 years as a video distribution anyways. Netflix HD will rule take over and it will be on demand.
Dvorak, Northrop is one of the biggest and most sophisticated government contractors in the US. If you had any idea what they really do you would be amazed. And no, I don’t work for or with them.
And read the report on China…its enlightening. The next world war will be won in the first 20 milliseconds.
I was press at the Windows 7 presentation here in Spain. First of all, they held the event in Seites Asturias. A tiny village in the Cantabric mountains on the north coast. They painted up the village and gave away some PC’s to the locals and showed them how to use 7. The presentation lasted less than an hour once started and consisted of a multimedia of the villagers using 7 and a real villager demonstrating how easy it is to do a panorama using a multiple selection of images and then context menu straight to an option. Yawn! Then they opened up to questions and I asked what the differences were between Vista and 7. We were told that Vista was a disappoinment to M$ and 7 was a new product, The big differences were; better and more drivers, She went on about multitouch but had no hardware to demonstrate it, told us that the system is much more secure thanks to security essentials, it conusmes less energy(undemonstrated or explained), and much easier to use and personalize. My conclusion, M$ had a product that wasn’t right so they fixed it and wanted to sell it but the name was jinxed. So they give it a new name and voila. The problem I see with that is charging the people who bought Vista the price of the upgrade. Add to that the fact that with the crisis upon us PC sales are down (by coincidence so are Vista OEM sales), and it looks like there’s no light at the end of the tunnel just yet.

No doubt about that. But I don’t feel sorry for the Vista owners, especially the Ultimate. They should have known beforehand either by research or an “earlier” copy.
Win7 is a more polished Vista and being sold new under a new name. It’s really sucks in that aspect, as you’ve said, because there’s really not enough innovation in the OS for it to demand a new price. On the other hand it’s polished and for someone coming from XP or other OSes it’s a welcome experience.

You’re living in a dream world if you think streaming HD content is sole dependent on companies like Netflix. Good luck with that. In the meantime there are those that continue to fight the bandwidth throttling and caps impose by cables companies. What good is it to have paid for HD streaming only to have it stopped in the middle, for example? You can’t blame Netflix that’s for sure and you can’t blame the cable company because by now they will already have you signed their BS contract.
Its not just that Eharmony is anti gay. they don’t mention this in their ads, but they are a christian focused service. Put in your profile that you’re not particularly devout or an atheist, no matches. Sign up as a hardcore fundamentalist and suddenly you’re the most eligible bachelor on the site.
Shouldn’t Christians be meeting nice single people at church anyway?
Pedro where did you see any details about the next xbox? Please link.

I agreed with you and I’ve tried it lol. Funny thing is I’m a non-practicing Catholic but I choose no religion and 0 interests afterwards LMAO. I’ve tried match.com too and the ladies there scared me O.o!
But I’m glad that Dvorak.org took down the Evony ad, at least I don’t see it any longer. Chinese farming company fooling a lot of morons to think they are not. Pathetic. There are others like Evony as well where it’s haven to Chinese RMT players and I’m talking about spams and marketing lol.
Linus Torvalds gives Windows 7 a big thumbs up.
10, Personality,
Right. Bandwidth cap at 60GB. How many movies can I watch before I start hitting the limit? 2? And that means I can’t do ANYTHING ELSE on my pc? And I can’t bring over the movie to a friend/family home that doesn’t have highspeed, netflix, or Xbox RROD? That sounds like the best idea EVAR!
Yeah… Anyone who doesn’t think that streaming 1080p will happen in the next year or so hasn’t seen microsofts 1080p streaming technology. Lol bluray is not dead yet, but the paramedics need to get the paddles ready.
Also, isn’t it obvious??? Hulu is getting ready to sign exclusive agreement with xbox and wrap up the set top box war. Microsoft has been courting Hulu for a year now.
Lol bad time for f$f shills.
19, Postman,
LOL Xbox RROD during playback, LOL! Free redownload and rebate on bandwidth LOL? Can’t wait till traffic shaping comes to Netflix and Hulu transfers! LOL! Cause Time Warner and the rest of the cable guys like that lol competitoin lol! LOL!
#18 Bluray rips are 6-10 gig is all but they use a really awful encoding. The technology had advanced way beyond that primitive crap in the last half decade. I am on my iPhone so I can’t post the link, but find the 1080p stream. It only needs 1.5mbit and is true 1080p…
So with your run of the mill cable modem connection you should be good all month.
Lol horrible time for msft haters rofl

I’m not sure what your definition of BR quality is with 1.5mbit. Somewhere along the line of VGA resolution? Maybe do a little google to find out what’s needed to stream real HD content? Standards like 720p or 1080p, or even better 1080p at 50/60 fps.
That 1.5mbps isn’t going to cut it, sorry. *thinking to myself, maybe he’s talking about youtube HD videos?”

to help here’s a good article to read up on

If you would like to see some pretty good HD streaming, go to ABC and check out some of their shows. My computer has an 18.5″ monitor and the full screen is smooth and sharp. ABC’s servers will deliver up to 19Mbps but generally settle down to around 3Mbps. You’ll have to get the latest version of Adobe Flash.
Damn pedro, wash the sand out of your vagina.
Yes, I hear john say it, but I cant find any thing to corroborate it. Major Nelson confirms the obvious: no BD for 360. He says nothing about the next generation.
John, can you elaborate on that story?

You’re definitely an idiot. Please go learn to research and stop spouting your HD, 1080P 1mbit streaming crap. I gave you a link, READ IT. How fcking lazy can you be?
But first learn reading comprehension!!!
Postman,
For you so you stop making a fool of yourself, direct blog from netflix on their streams. Again, reading comprehension first!!!!!

#27 Pedro,
Nah! There where 14 of those but they were for the people of the town. Actually this has to be the cheapest MS Iberica OS launch ever! Usually they do these macro events in a big city, where they rent out a big place, have tons of machines for the public to try, wine and dine the press, and most of the time they got some Redmond bigwig videoconferencing on a big screen. None of that this time. Not even free copies of 7 to try at home. Even the merchandising they gave out to the press was crappy with the exception of a pair of hand carved wooden shoes I liked those.
