International law is unfit to deal with the millions of people expected to flee their home countries to escape droughts and floods intensified by climate change, a group of lawyers said on Thursday.
Under existing laws, host countries must protect and care for cross-border refugees, who are defined as those forced to migrate because of violence or political, racial or religious persecution.
There are no such provisions for so-called climate refugees. Yet by 2050, between 200 million and 1 billion people could be forced to leave their homes because of global warming, said the Foundation for International Environmental Law and Development, which advises vulnerable countries and communities.
[…]
What most experts agree on is that rising temperatures will leave an additional 200 million to 600 million people hungry by 2080 and cause critical water shortages in China and Australia, as well as in parts of Europe and the United States, according to a 2007 global climate report.Coastal flooding will also hit another 7 million homes.
1
More like people forced out of their homes by glaciers, snow, and below normal temperatures.
More bullshit promoted by the corrupt UN no doubt to try and squeeze any country that has money to pass it along to those countries without any.
This will continue to be a serious problem especially with clean water access as it is affected by climate change.
These sorts of slow mega changes are not seen by the conservatives until it’s too late.
Observe they did not foresee the slow changes in US public opinion which is why they are a dying, rotting organization. You think they see, much less care about the environmental issues? NOPE
#3: That’s WalMart causing the decline.
Least active Hurricane season in decades. Unusually early snows on the East Coast and Mountain States. Heavy rains in the midwest. Yes, folks, Climate change is here, but the numbers from thr past 10 years are pointing to a prolonged cooling, not warming.
“. Yet by 2050, between 200 million and 1 billion people could be forced to leave their homes because of global warming”
So 1 in 9 people will be forced to leave their homes. Based on there being 9 billion people by 2050.
What happened to Man-Made Global Warming? Warmest year on record is 1998.
So now we have all the denials from the right wing nuts about climate change. Again. No thought, no foresight, no intelligent discussion. But because they cling to their Lord Limbaugh & Lord Beck view that this is bullshit they will continue.
Before someone, such as doill suggests it, weather is not the same thing as climate. Anecdotes are not the same as scientific study.
Utter crap of course, since the temperature on the Earth is going down, not up.

Yep, now where were you in the 70’s when we were preached that the Glaciers were coming and New York would be frozen under sheets of ice?
Fusion,
Well at least you didn’t say the BBC links were another hit job because they don’t support your point of view. 🙂
I think the only debate has been about whether global warming (or climate change) is in fact man-made.
Now if you want someone from the scientific community, Professor John Christy has been a major contributor to IPCC global warming reports. In this link, he will tell you why you can’t trust the IPCC.
Is man-made Global Warming a Scientific Fact?
Ah, finally now we know where climate change fear is manufactured.
9, BTW I noticed your use of “climate change” in lieu of “global warming”. The Left has recently made that switch because of such things as a lack of warming for the past decade. That’s why the new flavor of the day for the Left is “Climate Change”. Nice to see you followed in lockstep. 🙂
Global Warming Scientists’ Best Predictions May Be Wrong
#1,2,3,
Well, if three anonymous asshole bloggers say it, why should I believe thousands of climatologists?
Don’t you guys ever quit? Have your brains completely ossified? Do you really believe it’s cooling?
Can you read a freakin’ graph?
This does not show cooling.
Nor does this.
It’s hard to believe that there are those so dense as to still not see it coming. Or worse still trying to convince themselves there’s nothing that can be done and going into the political rhetoric mode (where anyone knows – nothing gets accomplished). All hell’s about to break loose and I for one am making preparations.
BTW, for the rest of you again and again and again pointing out the warmest year on record not being this year, look at the first graph in my post #16. There have been numerous plateaus along the way to where we are. There have even been some dips. Are we in a dip now? I think we’re at a plateau. Either way, the trend is still up up up. A few slightly cooler years that are still way warmer than average just a few decades ago does not reverse a trend.
THINK!!
Don’t let ExxonMobil and Inhofe do your thinking for you.
Here’s a good link about 1998 that may explain to any of you who actually have a brain why this is a very silly argument. For the rest, don’t bother clicking the link. You’re incapable of understanding real data and logic anyway.
Too bad all the lefty propagandists still try and promote climate change.
I have a novel idea. How about encouraging companies that cause pollution to clean up their act and come to countries that actually have pollution restrictions instead of being NIMBY morons and chasing those jobs away to 3rd world countries that don’t have any pollution restrictions at all.
Worst part is those idiots feel proud for being ignorant and actually causing even more pollution. Too bad they’re too stupid to see the obvious and use common sense. They’re just another form of fascist scumbags the only way to get through to them is physical injuries they deserve them anyway.
#12 – Stinker,
Re: 1970s predictions of cooling.
I’d add to this that part of the reason for the prediction of cooling was particulate pollution blocking sunlight. Well, we should also remember that we took action to correct that.
Go back to my post #16. Look at the first graph. What happened after the 70s when we took action to clean up the particulate pollution?
So now “bad weather” can be used as an excuse for illegal immigration?
#23 – Alfie,
Sure alfie, here are some current graphs from NASA, if you’re capable of reading a graph.
Since you didn’t notice that the data points in the prior graphs do actually continue past the last tick mark on the axis, I doubt you’ll be able to read these either. But, why not give it a try?
How was your breakfast manna?

I just want someone to take the 356 daily temperatures for each year, add them up, divide by 365, and plot it over the last two hundred years. I see so much junk science and data manipulation by both sides, creating skewed graphs and statistics that show a certain agenda. Can’t we just have the raw data, and then make our own decision?
let em come let the heat rise
i’ll be dead or 106 in 2050
I will only consider the views of people or groups that are working to distribute the currently completely adequate food supply to the many currently starving people before they consider the starving refugees from the future. Malthusians.

Agreed.
Suggested preparations?
Any luck with the cheesesteak while far from Philly?
Also as fate/destiny/god would have it, the sun remains mysteriously silent. Solar max is supposed to happen 2011 so far very few sunspots. Heliosphere’s way reduced, same conditions that were found to be associated with the little ice age but don’t believe me listen to NASA.
http://gsfc.nasa.gov/topstory/20011207iceage.html
Imagine what temperatures we might’ve had with an average level of sunspot activity. Lot’s of concern in NASA about this right now. The sun could make climate change a moot point.
#26 – Angus,

Done. That was the first graph I posted. Here it is again since you missed it the first time. The title Instrumental Temperature Record means just that, instrumented temperatures from actual thermometers. This graph starts somewhere in the mid 1850s and goes to a couple of years ago.

#17 Ha! I can picture you all psyched, yelling at the walls, mad ’cause nobody buys the crap you believe.
Only because morans like you keep posting the same drivel with no links and refuse to read the actual links to real live data. Your brain has already fossilized in a very bad position, and being fossilized, cannot change no matter how much data comes in.
#24 Yeap. You nailed it. I expect nothing less from conFusion & Scott to harbor at least 2 illega families as their contribution to lessen the impact of climate change.
I bet Scott should be quite happy to have such eclectic bunch in his house, what with him being misanthropic and all.
Being misanthropic, I’m far more likely to take in the non-human climate refugees. I’ve been trying to find a nice cold tank of arctic water, complete with ice floes on top, so that I can take in a few polar bears. Fitting it into an apartment has proven to be a bit difficult.
Wow, why so much discussion on settled science?
and remember, if it’s on wikipedia it must be true!
But as long as people are posting links, here’s a couple about the infamous “hockey stick” which should now be referred to as the “hokey stick”:
