The Associated Press: Ala. woman lets daughter ride in box on top of van — FYI

An Alabama woman has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after police say she let her daughter ride in a cardboard box on top of their van. Albertville Police spokesman Sgt. Jamie Smith said the 37-year-old woman was arrested Sunday after police received a call about a minivan on a state highway with a child riding on top.

Smith said the woman told police the box was too big to go inside the van, and that her daughter was inside the box to hold it down.

This speaks for itself. I have no opinion on it however…

If they had the luggage rack, what’s the problem?

  3. deowll says:

#1 Very amusing. Everyone has moments of stupendous stupidity including me. I do _try_ not to make a habit of it.

I have always said that there was nothing so stupid, idiotic, or self destructive that some person hasn’t done it or will do it given the opportunity.

  4. qb says:

deowll, I’ve never done anything stupid. Let me confirm that – I’ll just ask my wife…

Yup, she didn’t say anything when I asked her. She just rolled her eyes. 😉

What kind of minivan won’t hold a large box? I hauled a 650 lb. security cabinet home in the back of my Windstar. It was about the size of a refrigerator. Of course I had to remove the seats first. The key is planning.

What kind of mother puts a cardboard box on the roof.

    For shame.

  8. Glenn E. says:

Either the woman is lying, or she valued the box more than the child. A large brick or sack dirt would have done the same. But those can’t climb up into the box, on their own. Apparently, rope wasn’t available either. This is worse the Jed Clampet’s truck. At least Granny’s rocking chair was tied down, for the trip to Beverly. Hills that is.

Too bad she did not think “Out of the Box!!!”

Silly lady… Even an Orangutang would know better… (Orang Hutan.. Woods Person)

Um her baby was inside the box to hold it down???

I’m going to give you kudos for adding the stupid & idiot pics =)

  13. Ralph, the Bus Driver says:

Shit, when we were kids it was nothing to have 12 kids riding loose in the back of a pick-up or eight kids in the back seat of a car with no seat belts. (Those old Hudsons had big back seats)

Unfortunately it took too many tragic accidents to educate us that these weren’t wise decisions. Some are still learning.

#5 – Alabama is predominately Republican. Especially northeastern Alabama where this occurred. My money is on Tea-Bagger.

Victimless crime. the 13 year although in danger did not get hurt.

Although more dangerous than what we used to do.

We used to ride in the back of my dads pick up truck and pretend we where in the terminator movie shooting imaginary machine guns at Hunter Killers (flying terminator machines). there was a place you could hang on to while standing up in the pickup bed so we used to do that. The cops pulled my dad over one day because we where all standing playing our terminator game. The cop said we had to sit down in the back and didn’t give us a ticket. Fast forward 10 years, now its a law in NH that no one may ride in back of a open pickup truck. I’m glad we got our fun in before Big Nanny changed the law. It kinda sucks because it is routine when you have a construction crew to have some of the workers ride in the back of the pickup to the job site. So.. now your average DUI ground workman and there are plenty of them (we been in the roofing business since 69) has to find another ride to work cause the bosses pickup is only allowed to have riders inside the cab.

  16. DUI Ground Workman says:

Yeah, I enjoyed playing that hunter killer game too. Especially after downing a few brewskis. The best part was plowing into one of those pickups with a bunch of obnoxious brats rattling around in the back trying to hold me off with imaginary machine guns. What a yuck! Watching their stupid carcasses flying about on impact made the game so much more realistic.

    Curse you Big Nanny!
