Tesco has been accused of religious discrimination after the company ordered the founder of a Jedi religion to remove his hood or leave a branch of the supermarket in north Wales.
Daniel Jones, founder of the religion inspired by the Star Wars films, says he was humiliated and victimised for his beliefs following the incident at a Tesco store in Bangor.
The 23-year-old, who founded the International Church of Jediism, which has 500,000 followers worldwide, was told the hood flouted store rules.
But the grocery empire struck back, claiming that the three best known Jedi Knights in the Star Wars movies – Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker – all appeared in public without their hoods. Jones, from Holyhead, who is known by the Jedi name Morda Hehol, said his religion dictated that he should wear the hood in public places and is considering legal action against the chain.
The quote of the day:
“If Jedi walk around our stores with their hoods on, they’ll miss lots of special offers.”
May the Force and the Power of Cheese be with you!
The whole thing sounds like a joke. If true, the corporation has no right to tell people how to dress.
I agree with Tesco and the hood shall be removed upon entry to the store. A true Jedi would be respectful of the rules of a business. A lawsuit is just not necessary.
Lighter fluid and a match expedites the removal of unwanted hoods, burqas etc.
The FBI is asking many places to not allow customers to cover their face.
Just a wee comment to ramuno the whole hood thing is something most shops in the UK do to try and stop “hoodies” who apparently are troublesome entering there premises so they “kindly” ask for all hoods to be down.
You’ve got to admit this is funny though. His hole argument is “It states in our Jedi doctrination that I can wear headwear. It just covers the back of my head,” here’s the thing he wrote the rules. I suppose that would mean he knows best on that subject it just seems a little off to me.
Sadly you can’t access the website atm http://templeofthejediorder.org/ gota say this is one of the funniest things I’ve read in awhile though.
This isn’t the hoodie we’re looking for. You can keep your hood on. Go about your business.

A Real Jedi would use “The hood does not break store rules” mind trick.
Fake Jedi, fake religion.
Apparently discriminating against religious dogma in the U(will-obey)K is racism know(muslim = race apparently), so it may be religious discrimination but the modern (more stupid) question is should the Orwellian state get them for racism against Jedis.
A British psychic weapon… a Jedi Warrior…
Who cares, as long as they don’t ban Princess Leia outfits.
The Jedi are a terrorist organization who attempted to overthrow the democratically elected leader of the Senate. They blew up 2 of the Republic’s “Peace” stars, killing thousands (including many innocent construction workers and drywall installers with families).
Clearly the only solution is to hunt them down and carefully monitor their movements with 1000s of CCTV cameras.
Well! I can guarantee you that most of the 500,000 Jedi followers worldwide, will NOT be shopping in that store any more.
So there!
the force is weak with this one
I hope not, I really would like to establish a religious test before you can enter my place of business.
But when the Muslims wear their burqa, hijab, and nigab haute couture and keep bumping into everything because they can’t see anything – well, that is perfectly OK to the Brits.
You just have to know how to wear a burqa.
P.S. Yes, I am going to hell.
Do Jedi hoods come in Burberry plaid? That would be Chav-tastic!
HAR!
#11, Dude, thanks for the link. I’ve got Nov 6th marked!
“Actually, now that I think about it, they’re more like the Bilderbergers or Freemasons.”
Well, I for one will welcome our new Sith overlords.

Does she give the news?
Is there a link?
#18 Thanks for the smile! Well done!
It’s like those people who spend hundreds of
hours learning the Klingon ‘language’.
Jedi should always respect the customs of foreign planets. After all they are not only keepers of the peace, they are emissaries.
Wasn’t the only Star Wars character who wore a hood constantly the Emperor? He was really a Sith Lord and was evil. The good Jedi would have just used his mind trick to be able to wear his hood.
Anyone under the impression that the headquarters of the Jedi religion is in this guy’s mother’s basement? Seriously, this is worse than the Church of Shatner types. http://shatnerology.com/ At least they have a sense of humor.
What can you say? Sith happens!
I bet whatever went on here the guy certainly wasn’t shopping for condoms!
Pardon me for exposing my Star Wars geekness, but, I seem to recall “Jedi” only using their hoods when they were outside, and dropped them upon going indoors.
