Something I’m starting to notice, and I’m wondering what are you guys’ opinion on this, that politicians that had a job before becoming politicians are much honest and actually trying to solve problems.

Republicans are typical “Seeing what they believe and not believing what they see?”.
Non-supporting facts are irrelevant to them. It seems to breed from GWB speech to Congress on 9/20/01 “Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists.”
The nihilism of Republican’s ranting and ravings is astonishing given their supposed family value rehtoric.
The Republicans are a sad un-American bunch that wants to throw USA back to before the Age of Reason.
#19 So you think that being a Democrat makes you competent? It doesn’t even make you have the same values especially over time.
The modern Democrat party is run by people that the Democrats of my youth would have wanted run out of the country.
JFK would have spewed over some of the things Teddy voted for and they were brothers as well as Democrats.
Do you think JFK would have put a self avowed communist in his government? Obama did.
I would also say that I think JFK was competent as President. I don’t think Obama is.
Of course JFK was also a total womanizer and Obama isn’t or at least I don’t think so. The sad truth is most of the media outlets wouldn’t put in on the news if they had video of Obama having sex with a hooker or worse.
One black preacher, most likely a Democrat, called Obama a long legged Mac daddy which suggests he saw something wrong with the man. With it being obvious most media outlets just aren’t going to say anything that might discredit Obama no matter what its hard to tell. The same people in some cases covered up JFKs sexual indiscretions.
Despite the fact that Obama is a better husband and father than JFK when push comes to shove I’d feel a lot better about JFK running the country than Obama.
The problem I have with your expressed views is that everything to you depends on political party affiliations. You would vote for Lucifer if he were a Democrat and against somebody that supported your expressed values while spouting total BS about why you did it no doubt starting with you want an honest demon who cares about the people in charge. ?8^)
You are kind of fun because you are so stuck on party that you don’t have clue how you bit yourself and your causes in the back.
24,
GOOD COMMENTS ON THE eND, about WHAT its about. But dont believe what you hear about Costs, especially from the Health insurance companies.
aT THE VERY END, about passing the bill quickly, isnt true. Other wise it wouldnt be, BEING debated in the public for 2 months.
I posted a link in the forums last week with the whole document, as well as the exerts being BITCHED AT. NOT debated.
27,
Fun isnt it.
30,
you got it.
At least if the Gov. does it, and its corrupt, its not part of a business plan. and can be seen and dealt with.
aLL i SEE IS 2 GROUPS.
1 with a bill and 1 Bitching. Why they are bitching isnt clear. All I hear, is that Insurance Corps CAN/WILL protect us. HUH??
Im 50 years old and Iv seen what they do. and if you havnt had the problems you ARNT on the bottom of the pay scales.
SOP of business, CUT COSTS. Cut hours to 32 or Less so you dont need to pay benefits. State/fed/medical CUT.
Who remembers Walmart getting their hands slapped, but NOT the rest of business DOING THE SAME?
Its a savings to BUSINESS to pass this. No workmens comp and no health insurance to the State.
And yes, its the All for one clause. WE are the religious ones, and we are right. DONT read the bill, we didnt. We put up PRETTY people so that you can believe them. And they havent read it either. They dont want to FIX it, they want to get rid of it. They dont have enough people to stop it, so they Bring it out to the people and Bitch. NOT debate.
I must say, though I usually find myself on the other side of Franken on just about anything, this gives me plenty of respect for him in my book.
I wish we had more people like him in congress on both sides of the aisle.
err, forgot to add this to the last post…but it really is telling that Franken is out at the fair just by himself (?) and the other politician is worried that his video would end up on you tube.
The times they are a changen…
Thinker,
Verily, and I hope for the better.
WE are the control over what these folks do.
And those that STAND UP and talk to us, I like more then the ones that HIDE at home or have 6 security guards around them.
IF you are doing RIGHT, then they shouldnt have a problem.
I’m surprised. I’m not a huge fan of Franklin, but I really like what he said.
What angry mob? That was the kind of discourse we should have been having all along.
Man, the more I think about it, the more naive the Obama Administration seems. Again, I’m not a fan of Franklin but I think he’s on the right track. He basically won over that crowd with simple reasoning, and listening/addressing their concerns/questions.
Why has it been so hard for the current administration to do the same?
# 34 ECA “GOOD COMMENTS ON THE eND, about WHAT its about.”
That’s as far I got with your comment. If you capitalize every other word people wont even bother to read what you are trying to say. Your writing looks idiotic.
#40 Indeed! Proper English is not respected. ECA’s precious idiosyncratic manner, however, is more an indication of sociopathy than style.
I hung out with Franken regularly back in the 80’s in Minneapolis. He really is a very smart and compassionate person. I have to laugh at those that discount him because he is satirist and comedian. Sadly the darkest comedy comes from the status quo politicians in Washington.
#24 cmon FTW.
I’m nominating your post for the “Most Common Sense Post of the Thread” award. Of course that will get you flamed by both sides.
Senator Franken is very impressive. He communicates to his democratic constituents in a way they understand with common sense, composure and facts.
He also has a good process to communicate with Republicans – speak to them like children. You have to settle them down, speak slow, use gestures and pretend they know what you’re talking about.
Three political stories in a row.
Al Franken positive – rare stuff
Barron Hill negative – well deserved
only a Republican can believe list negative – silly waste of time
Good grief man can’t you bring a little objectivity and political balance to this blog!
ECA has a good point when he says that none of the money is coming back. You all know what happens to that money you’re paying for health insurance right? OK, some of it goes to pay for health care, but we’re talking about a business here, they have to show a profit to survive, so part of the money goes to the shareholders. Now, somebody please explain to me how that’s better than socialized medicine. I mean sure there’s gonna be abuse and corruption but how is that better than having to pay off a bunch of greedy bastards investing in your health care.
Won’t matter anyways, the techno-appocalypse in 2012 will cause all healthcare infrastructures to be nationalized.
Angry mob? I guess I expected the villagers to have pitchforks and guns and yelling at the top of their lungs about capturing the beast on the loose or slaying the monster. All it was was a civil, frank discussion of several peoples viewpoints on an issue near and dear to their hearts and pocketbooks. Angry mob? The angry mob should be after the person that wrote the buzzword loaded heading and seize and break his/her quill pen or computer keyboard. But then I guess I wouldn’t have clicked on the link to listen to the ” angry mob”.
Why is it the jester’s have become more believable than the joker’s who run our countries.
# 30, I fail to understand how people are unwilling to trust the government[…]
Trust the government to implement a system that will dwarf the already insolvent health care system we have now?
Trust the government to make a system with 330,000 pages, that they created, into something more efficient?
Trust the government to give us a choice about whether we want to be part of the same system they don’t want to be part of?
Surely you jest.
I fail to understand how people are unwilling to trust the governments of other countries with socialized health care enough to move there.
#50–Hey Loser==glad to see you have posted all the reasons to move to a single payer system.
You are so correct.
#51 bobbo
Yup, he successfully beat himself with his own argument.
#51 bobbo
Forehead slap (hit enter button). Now to finish:
But I don’t think he meant it that way. I live in Canada where we have the the Canada Health Act, the guiding legislation for our system. It’s 27 pages long. I think many Americans (maybe even the majority) want a public option. The legislation proposed is incomprehensible and would make the relatively efficient parts of public system in the US unresponsive.
48,
very true.
The Gov has power but WONT use it. They get paid to much by the corps.
Something our gov is afraid of is IF’ the corps leave to another nation.(corp threat). But really, where would they go and have 1/2 as much control over a Nation.
Let them leave. I would rather ship them OUT.
Let them goto Europe with all the over priced goods and REAL competition. Let them Build a HQ in china with all the rules and regs, and when they screw up, someone gets his head chopped off. Let them go to Other Asian nations.. I would love to see how well their CORP head quarters does. they shipped the rest of the jobs out, Take the boss’s with them.
It seems Al Franken is beating around the bush. Let’s face FACTS:
1.) The US population is aging, health costs are going up every year because people live much longer than ever before.
2.) Malpractice claims and insurance are TRIPLING hospital and doctors charges — these need to be regulated — severely.
3.) Uninsured young people (and illegals) need to have mandatory insurance — this would add a whole new income source to Medicare which would help balance it’s books.
4.) ALL insurance (Medicare and supplemental) needs to incorporate co-pays and minimum patient payments — discourage hypochondriacs from overwhelming the system.
5.) Every ailment and injury needs to have a predetirmined price, much like auto body repair charges.
5.) Health care and social security take up HALF our national debt. These entitlements need to be balanced (by law) or we’re DOOMED.

If Al Franken is the voice of reason in our gov’t we are beyond simply screwed.l
My thoughts on the matter:
I seem to recall he did pretty well on Jeopardy! as well. (Comedians generally do.)
