A new wrinkle in the dispute over his birth – and whether he is eligible to be president under the U.S. Constitution’s requirement that the president be a “natural born” citizen – appeared today when Obama’s official MySpace page declared his age is 52, thus placing his birth year at 1957 instead of 1961 as has been claimed.

That would mean he would have been born during the archipelago’s time as a territory of the U.S., the islands’ status from about 1900 until statehood in 1959. The birth year also conflicts with campaign and other White House information that have discussed his 48th birthday this month.

This is probably a mistake or some intern messing up, but no response yet from the White House. If this is true (which again, I don’t think so), Obama can’t be the president. The Constitution, Article 2, Section 1, states,

“No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President.”

We will probably see a lot more of this story this week.

  1. Dr Dodd says:

#31-noname-site an example regarding Obama shredding the Constitution…

Let see, so many examples – so little time.

The most egregious example is Obama appointing hoards of unaccountable Czars that make it possible to bypass elected representatives.

Even you must admit that this stinks on ice.

  2. Animby says:

First a disclaimer: I am NOT a birther.
Now, Hawaii and the Prez say the actual birth certificate is available. Producing it for just five minutes to the press would end the controversy. Yet, Prez has spent hundreds of thou in legal fees to keep it hidden preferring, instead, to push out the “Live Birth” certificate with it’s inadequacies. No wonder the conspiracists go nuts.

And what about those school grades? His thesis? He was head of the Law Review and didn’t write anything? It’s easy to see what the fuss is about. He could put it all right so easily and refuses. Why?

  3. oik says:

Geez, this clown has no business posting here…he makes Adam Curry look like a paragon of carefully thought-out commonsense. He needs his very own Myspace page where he can publish his groundbreaking stories.

    To the story:

I’m a conservative, and I say Obama is a citizen and the rightful president. And I don’t know a SINGLE conservative who thinks differently. I think the media is giving these nutters all the coverage they want to make it seem like most conservatives think this way. One question solves it for me: Would Hilary and McCain have not checked this out during the campaign? Seriously?

I think at least SOME of this birther stuff is false flag nonsense to make Republicans look like idiots. Thanks, but they’re doing a fine job of that without any help at all.

  4. bmcaffee says:

@28, just because Congress passes a law doesn’t make it so. You cite sections of the US Code, that arguably are not Constitutional. The Constitution states that the President must be at least 35 and a natural born citizen. So, the question is, can someone born in a US Territory be considered a “natural born” citizen. There is no definitive answer to this question as it has really never been tested. I would lean towards that they probably should be eligible, but to say this with 100% confidence is a stretch.

  5. BK says:

And McCain was born in Panama. So what? They don’t have to be born in a state.

  6. Somebody says:

    “# 19 ArianeB said, on August 22nd, 2009 at 3:40 pm

Guilherme, Somebody, and all the other ignorant racist birthers”…

I never brought race into it.

What gives you the right to falsely defame me?

  7. kindred says:

I live in Hawaii, and they DO NOT send out originals. Period. He’s a citizen.

Now, I’m FAR more interested in why he has no paper trail at all from university…what’s he hiding? Did he fail? Did he not fulfil requirements but threaten them into graduating him with the race card? Did he avoid doing any actual work? THAT seems quite likely, as he’s an utterly incompetent manager.

I really think he’s the kind of silver-tongued scammer who convinces people not to check his qualifications until it’s too late. There was a guy my uni hired years ago…talked circles around the academic management, got hired, and then turned out to have virtually none of the certifications or skills he said he did. 2 minutes with a techie and he would never have been hired.

Hope his copy of “The Bluffer’s Guide to Being The President” in his desk drawer turns out to be enough.

  8. noname says:

    # 32 Dr Dodd, really, Uhm?

Besides you being simple minded pathetic RePUCKaTon, let’s review history.

    Ok Dr Dud::

What do you think of about the accusation that Drug Czar John Walters and President Bush were scratching each other’s backs for financial and political gain?????????

What do you think of Walters using taxpayer money to campaign for Republicans; while President Bush ignored the agency’s failures and increased funding for programs his own analysts determined were ineffective????????

I could go on and on and on and on and on and on and on.

  9. Somebody says:

Back when they still taught this sort of stuff in grade school, they did say that the president of the United States had to be born here. Remember all that talk about Arnold Schwarzenegger not being eligible?

I’d say those chickens have come home to roost.

  10. Semantics says:

According to The Constitution, Article 2, Section 1 no one is eligible to be President anymore since no one is left from the time when the Constitution was adopted.

  11. Somebody says:

I’d say that Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment is probably a more fertile field for Obama’s disqualification.

  12. Somebody says:

    #41 — Semantics

    Requires accurate parsing.

  13. noname says:

    # 40 Somebody,

“I’d say those chickens have come home to roost.”

I couldn’t agree with you more.

I hope, that you NUT JOBs keep the issue alive all they way to the next election.

It’s important you do, because American’s need to be reminded why they voted you types out of office!!!!!!!!

  14. BigBoyBC says:

All of you are a buch of pathetic little fools, look at what you posting… You’re point fingers and calling names like a bunch of three-year-olds…

    GROW-UP and SHUT-UP!!!

You all are the reason this country is in the crapper, you sit on your computer, shooting your mouths off and DOING NOTHING!!!

    Bunch of jackasses!!

  15. Gawdmachine says:

PEOPLE PLEASE!! The correct terms are “Repugnicunt” & “Democan’t”

    Thank you for your time.

  16. Petros says:

    ** A view from another country **

It was blatantly obvious in 2000 that Bush was elected by sheer unadulterated political fraud.

Baby Obama wherever and whenever he was born, was not the man he is now, who was elected on the merits of his campaign, not by cheating. It is fairly pathetic to see this swell of anti-Obama rhetoric on the basis of a pretty weak and quite silly technicality.

    Grow up guys…

  17. grass4 says:

    Welcome to the club!

  18. Somebody says:

    #47 Petros said

… “pretty weak and quite silly technicality”….

Right, who cares what the law says. The mob has spoken.

  19. tcc3 says:

Ok, smart guy, (bmcaffee) show me where the constitution defines a “natural born citizen?”

That’s where the sections of US code come in. Read the title: “§ 1401. Nationals and citizens of United States at birth”

  20. ArianeB says:

    “# 19 ArianeB said, on August 22nd, 2009 at 3:40
Guilherme, Somebody, and all the other ignorant racist birthers”… I never brought race into it.

The birther movement has been a racist movement from day 1. The birthers claim it is about Obama being “African” and not “American.

I know conservative code speak when I hear it I have grown up with it all my life. If you believe in the birther thesis, you are a RACIST plain and simple.

    #33 “First a disclaimer: I am NOT a birther.
Now, Hawaii and the Prez say the actual birth certificate is available. Producing it for just five minutes to the press would end the controversy. If you do not believe that the birth certificate in the photos of that have been posted on the internet for over a year now, certified as genuine by independent bodies and the State of Hawaii, examined and handled by multiple reporters, is the genuine article, then you are a birther. It does not matter what it says on the top, it is a legal document.

  21. Somebody says:

    #39 noname said

… “I could go on and on and on and on and on and on and on.” ….

    We’ve noticed.

Well, I missed the first birther meeting so I’ll let that first assertion pass.

In the context of this discussion, the distinction between “African” and “American” is one of citizenship not race. Nobody is saying that the constitution bars anyone from the presidency on the basis of ethnicity. Nor is anybody suggesting that it should.

Your statement “If you believe in the birther thesis, you are a RACIST plain and simple.” is logically null and void. Assuming the birther thesis is that Obama was born in Kenya and it turns out that he was. You can clearly believe it without being racist. And I certainly will believe it, should it prove true, with no apology to you.

If that was your response to my question about what gives you the right to falsely defame me, would it be fair to say you are pleading incompetence?

  23. echeola says:

I know this is a crazy idea. Do you think the Obama Administration is fueling the birthers with things like this.

  24. noname says:

    # 55 echeola,

    I think it’s a great Idea!

While the “BIRTHERS” are ranting and raving over B.S., real Americans will grow more and more disgusted with the RePUCKaTons.

    Go BIRTHERS!!!!

  25. ArianeB says:

The problem is this: IT HAS ALREADY BEEN PROVEN FALSE!!

Its OK to debate controversial issues like health care reform, gun control, global warming, capital punishment etc. because there are SIDES to those issues, and debating those issues helps us understand the issues better in our mind.

When it comes to the birther issue there are only two sides if you count BULLSHIT as being a side.

There is the truth, and there is idiot racist scum that cant handle the truth, or so blind to their own prejudices that they would rather see a nonsensical debate drag on just to see if the bullshit they throw around actually sticks to anything.

Lets let Dara O’Brien explain the difference between debate and BULLSHIT shall we?

  27. Somebody says:

So, you’re just going to unthinkingly call anybody you disagree with a racist even without justification.

  28. Somebody says:

That’s fine. I accept your gift of the moral high ground.

  29. scotterotter says:

I love it when people start out by saying “I’m not a birther, but…” That’s kind of like those people who say they don’t watch tv, but did you see that show last night?

    I agree with #13, definitely rope-a-dope.

  30. Troublemaker says:

Yeah, MySpace, that’s a reliable source of official information like birth dates.

BTW, I thought the birthers insisted that he wasn’t born in Hawaii?
