Sarah Palin blows fairy dust at Republican true believers |
Just one week after Sarah Palin stepped down as governor of Alaska, Alaskan lawmakers succeeded in overriding her veto of federal stimulus dollars.
The legislature has voted 45-15 in favor of overturning the former governor’s veto of more than $28 million in Recovery Act funds targeted toward energy efficiency projects.
The Alaska legislature met for a one-day special session in Anchorage. Heading into the vote, Rep. Mike Hawker, who voted in support of finally accepting the stimulus funds, anticipated a close decision, coming down to a couple of votes either way…
State lawmakers dispute Palin’s objections to the stimulus money. In a letter to Alaska House Finance Committee Co-Chair Rep. Mike Hawker and obtained by CNN, the Department of Energy wrote that the Alaska legislature “does not need to adopt, impose and enforce a statewide building code” in order to qualify for the energy funds.
Palin originally threatened to reject more than $400 million of the state’s $930 million share of the stimulus package. Eventually Palin signed off on all but the three percent under consideration Monday by state lawmakers.
Another 14th Century mind in a 20th Century Republican skull.
HA. They couldn’t wait to get rid of her.
Take that Federal money. After all it is ‘free’ with no strings attached.
Take those Federal dollars. After all it is ‘free’ and there are no strings attached. While you are at it put some more white out over the 10th amendment.
What’s the deal? The legislature just had a disagreement with the governor and overrode her veto. Happens from time to time in every state. Vetos and state legislatures’ ability to override with a super majority is part of our system of government. Nothing illegal or immoral happened here from either the legislature or the governor.
It would be legally possible for a state governor to veto every bill that came before him and for the legislature to override every single veto with a super majority. Such a hypothetical situation might mean the hypothetical governor won’t be re-elected, but it is not illegal or impeachable as there would be no wrongdoing.
“Another 14th Century mind in a 20th Century Republican skull.” I’d say one brain in one skull that thought further than NOW. This decision will provide some money now for obligations to spend a lot more state money later. From us, taxpayers as states do not print money.
#4 “Such a hypothetical situation might mean the hypothetical governor won’t be re-elected,…”
It might mean that the hypothetical legislature won’t get re-elected.
Sarah Palin, the Paris Hilton of politics. And famous for exactly the same reason… what inane thing will she say or do next?
Compare Sarah Palin’s picture here to Hillary C’s. Which would you rather see on the blog on a daily basis? Of course! That’s why I don’t care what spin the folks put on her. Just keep showing us Sarah, keep her in the spotlight, and she will shake up politics again. I hope. The Dems just hate her because they can’t compete. Tell me. Who do they have who is so cute? Pelosi?
Just for you, Faxon:
I have to agree with faxon, I would much rather see Sarah up here every day than Miss Cankles (Hillary the shrill biatch).
That is ok she will be picking over the bones of the liberal wing of the Democratic party in about six months. Liberals today have the copyright on stupid.
As usual, some people still think physical appearances hold sway over articulation and intelligence. I wonder how many of them think Jessica Simpson would be a good President?
*
This is something that will benefit Alaskans down the road. If you build a house it have to be built to certain standards. Just because Alaska didn’t have standards before (they did elect Palin) doesn’t mean those with some intelligence can’t start now.
Cost money? No, save money.
Pick politicians based on looks? That would be the only reason to vote republican.

Looks aside, Jessica couldn’t do any worse than the “Yes we can” teleprompter reading moron we have in there now.
Diesel…did you ever see her TV show? She’s probably not sure which country is our Southern neighbor, Canada or New Mexico. 😉
I just can’t understand why you guys get a “political boner” over this woman everytime shes in the news?
What pathetic little lives you must have…
Makes me wonder what else did they have to do in the way of “Palin damage control” If this is what the republicans have to offer, they are going to be as powerful as the green party in 20 years.
#13 Mr Fusions
I think you misunderstood the arguments people are making about Palin being in the news and having her picture posted. You’re implying by your post that others think she will be successful because of her looks. Actually, I only see posts that say she’ll have the opportunity to be successful because her looks will keep her in the news which will give her a platform. I think your you’re probably right that you’d have to be a dork to believe some one would be great because of how they look, but no one is saying that.
#19, good,
I think your you’re probably right that you’d have to be a dork to believe some one would be great because of how they look, but no one is saying that.
Here, I’ll help out some.
“I wonder how many of them think Jessica Simpson would be a good President?”
Almost as many who thought BO would be a good president.
Damn, I just hate it when I do that. I posted too soon, sorry.
Gooddebate, try #9, faxon
#11, Mr. Diesel,
As did #14, 15, & 17,
I don’t think she is a particularly attractive woman. Some might, but that is their cup of tea. The one credit I give her is still keeping slim after three children and two grandchildren.
And also, I see that Palin is still on the lefts ‘must destroy’ list, why is that? She’s not on the political radar and she’s not jeopardizing anyone’s position in congress or anywhere else. Is it fear? Of what? What influence does she have that would warrant this?
I’m down to this as my only explanation. There’s a feeling on the left that somehow, some way through some freak set of circumstances that she could gain some real power. On top of that, the feeling goes, there will be no way to stop the momentum if it starts so marginalizing her won’t work. The only option is to pre-emptively destroy her.
Wonder if I’m close, just a guess.
Ya’ gotta love that reverse gear.

Ok, I’m still looking through your quote for ‘will be successful becuase…’ I did find “…and she will shake up politics again…” See ‘and’ and ‘because’ are not the same. Now at this point you can either agree, agree to disagree or keep posting “yes it is, nya”.
As for the other posts I don’t see ‘because’ there either. # 14, obviously tongue in cheek to poke fun at you, #15 again childish poking fun at the dems, #17 don’t get the connection to your argument, again obviously making fun of you. But it does look like you answer these silly posts with “I don’t think she is a particularly attractive woman.” You actually answered the childish poking fun at you? And you actually gave that answer?
#22 Fusion & #25 Gooddebate,
I said “political boner”, it has nothing to do with her appearance.
Mr Fusion
Don’t confuse the fact that I like the way she looks with wanting her to do good in the political arena.
Schoolmarm hot
VP uh not so much
# 25 gooddebate
Good debate eh?
Fusions point is fair enough. Your deflection is to say ah but its all a joke. Brilliant. Well maybe it is and maybe it isn’t. Perhaps you are aware of the observation ‘there is generally grain of truth in humor’.
And on your point about the ‘lefts ‘must destroy’ list’.
Seems to me whats going on is that she just won’t shut the hell up. And what she says is generally idiotic. Like the death panel idiocy (which even high ranking Republicans say is stupid) and thats gets on the news. Why? Well because she was the Republican vice president candidate. A car crash. She looks purdy. It embarrasses members of the Republican party. And so on, and on and on.
It’s not a mystery.
The democrats hardly need to ‘attack’ her. Shes pretty good at destroying herself, and unfortunately somewhat taking the Republican party down with her. So if I was in the dem leadership – I’d just leave her to it.
The idea that she’s a ‘threat’ is frankly as funny as most of what she says.
It’s all jokes.
I don’t think she is a particularly attractive woman. Some might, but that is their cup of tea.
Yeah, what a dog with that hourglass figure, healthy complexion and hair, clear eyes, pointed chin and nose, full lips. Yeah, really nasty looking.
Ha. You can gauge the intelligence behind the Republican supporters when they say things like ‘Palin’s one hot mamma…shes got my vote’. Sheep.
Sarah who?
