When his girlfriend took to his door with an axe, William Floyd started shooting, deputies say.
No one was hurt in the 2 a.m. domestic dispute at 2811 S County Line Road, said Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Debbie Carter. Floyd, 44, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Carter said it seems Floyd’s live-in girlfriend couldn’t get into his front door and tried to chop it down. So Floyd fired a round at the door with a .38-caliber handgun. The girlfriend drove away and refused to answer an investigator’s questions, Carter said.
Doesn’t say if she was carrying a concealed axe. Of course, axes don’t kill people, guns do.
And lest you think that’s all the goofy goings on in the L shaped state, other than the kitty pr0n case:
– Fight at gas pumps leads to name calling, gasoline shower.
– Man pretends to be disabled to get woman to diaper and bottle feed him.
– UFO video. Need I say more?
I’ll assume that, since she was his girlfriend, she knew that he owned a gun. Would it not be expected that if you start choppin on his door that the bullets might follow?
Dumb Floridians!
Why was he arrested? Isn’t it pretty clearly self defense? Admitted, he should have waited until he had clear shot but still…
OH GOD. Another anti-gun forum is about to unfurl.
Let’s see. A man tries to chop his girlfriend’s door down. The woman fires one shot. Who gets arrested?
Like I said a few days ago… at least 2 a week of these things end up here…
No Comment this time…
IQ Test for Gun Owners?…
I have to say if someone was trying to get through my door with an axe, I would probably say. “Dude, you might want to stop, I have a gun, and I will use it.” (I would only do this since, it takes more than one swing to go through a door, and while their was danger, you would have a few seconds before its immediate) If the response I got was another axe swing, then I would have shot through the door too.
Sounds like more of a case of a psycho girlfriend, than a crazy gun owner, God knows their are allot of psycho girlfriends out their.
Don’t they have the same kind of law in FL as in Texas? The he/she needed killing law?
Where if they feel grievous bodily injury will result they can shoot?
I may be wrong and that could be AR I am thinking of. The South and the West have a lot of those shoot first ask questions later laws.

Somebody starts taking an axe to my front door had better have plans to explain him/herself to whatever deity they feel comfortable with….
In all but a couple of states that’s more than enough justification….
However, you don’t fire through a closed door and not expect a local Prosecutor to take an unpleasant interest, with or without various “make my day” laws.
You also don’t wait for them to get inside either….
I don’t care if its your long-lost brother the Priest, either…. That axe could do serious harm to somebody long before a call to 911 generates any reaction.
Nor do you negotiate: “I’ve got a gun and will shoot”….
IMHO, if it is a friend/relative, taking the additional risk to let them see that you’re going to punch their ticket if they don’t run for the road, may be desirable, and I would expect most juries would believe that it’s required (it’s not), but YMMV. Better to be the one who lives to call 911….

“Don’t they have the same kind of law in FL as in Texas? The he/she needed killing law?”
Yep, the so called “Castle Doctrine”.

Boy, his girlfriend sure was ugly… sort of looked like Jack Nicholson.
#10 But I hear she can get you great Lakers tickets.
I’d put one in the floor.
If they kept chopping I’d wait till the hole got a little bigger….
You do not want to get hit with an ax. They can do a heck of a lot more damage than any handgun.
Why wouldn’t she answer the police questions??
Why does she have use an axe to get inside her boyfriends place? He obviously was home at the time!
Obviously they had a fight, he locker her out, she came back with an axe, Nuff’ said.
Bad grammar, it’s late…
An Axe is the more dangerous weapon here. Castle Doctrine applies. She didn’t even get hurt.

LOL!! Benjamin, that link is excellent, funny, and extraordinarily informative!
Thanks!
Oh, and by the way, what if this had been reversed and was in a state that had restrictive gun ownership laws?
What if the axe wielder was the boyfriend, and the girlfriend had no gun?
Does anyone think for an instant that this blog would have posted her horrible, torturous murder because she was denied the right to defend herself?
#16 Also look up the policeman’s response to the don’t talk to the police video.
I sure will. Was planning on it.
Again, a really great link!
