You almost need to be a millionaire just to sit in the cheap seats. Guess they gotta pay for all this somehow.

I saw the definition of American excess, and it was simultaneously magnificent and borderline disgusting in its lavishness.

If you’re looking for Memorial Stadium-style character and old-school charm, you won’t find it at Cowboys Stadium. If you’re looking for a complex constructed for the video age — note the 160-by-72-foot video board hanging from the roof — check out Jerry’s joint.

You almost have to see it to believe it. There are carpeted hallways throughout the arena. Padded leather seats in sections other than suites. An 18,000-square-foot gift shop. Cowboyrita drinks for 14 bucks a pop. A total of 3,000 Sony high-definition televisions throughout the arena, with plans to add 2,000 more before the 2011 Super Bowl.

Tuesday’s tour took our group into a suite that can be leased for $800,000 a year — which doesn’t include the price of game or event tickets but does offer a large pizza for $90 (no toppings), 12-packs of domestic beer for $66 apiece and a four-pack of Red Bull for $22, among other ridiculously priced items.

At least it didn’t need a government bailout to finish. It didn’t, did it?

how about people play sports instead of watching sports?

  2. Toxic Asshead says:

If there were justice in the universe, every American would have home like this stadium.

Can’t wait to hear Tony Romo’s girlfriend Jessica Simpson sing the National Anthem on opening day.

    Wait, what???

Hopefully they’ll go 0-16 this year.

    Go Steelers!

Do the fans go to see the game or just look at each other and see who was willing to pay the bill?

I’d rather stay home and watch the game on the tube and if they want to block that or charge something insane I can do something else.

Plenty of colleges have been upgrading their facilities with luxuries too. Rock climbing, spas, etc

  6. Mark T. says:

Yep, Dallas sports teams all have new stadiums built with taxpayer $$$ to benefit, and behest of, millionaire & billionaire team owners.

The Mavericks new home in downtown Dallas was built at the behest of Ross Perot Jr. and Mark Cuban. The Texas Rangers got The Ballpark in Arlington while George W. Bush was a part owner. And now Arlington has the new Cowboy Stadium right next to that with the beneficiary being Jerry Jones.

Oh, and the old stadiums, namely Texas Stadium and Reunion Arena, stand vacant and ignored.

It is not surprising that the truly rich and powerful get that way at the expense of the public through the misguided politicians at City Hall.

I am just glad they didn’t build that monstrosity in my neighborhood. The thing seats 80,000 but can be expanded to 100,000. I am sure they will fill it for the first few games as people check out the pageantry & opulence but it will be half empty shortly thereafter if this economy continues as it has and especially if the Cowboys have a bad season.

I feel sorry for the people that live in Arlington that had their taxes raised only to be rewarded with gridlock on Sunday.

But, in the end, this opulent stadium is the result of the local municipalities tripping over each other to present the grandest stadium to King Jones, thereby winning the title “Home of the World Champion Dallas Cowboys”. The City of Arlington simply outdid the others with massive cash outlays. Now the citizens of Arlington must suffer the consequences.

  8. Esteban says:

As a Dallas resident, what really pisses me off about this is that they built this stadium in Arlington, the largest US city without any form of public transportation. Whereas the Mavericks and Stars play at the American Airlines Center, which has its own light rail station, the new Cowboys Stadium gives you no choice but to drive and pay exorbitant parking fees.

  9. Toxic Asshead says:

Not having mass transportation is a bonus. Makes a city more livable (if you can call any city livable)

  10. jbellies says:

No bailout yet. That comes later.

I wonder if in Texas it is encouraged to use firearms in defense of parking spaces, among all the other God-granted rights.

  11. Kari says:

It was really good to see the Mavericks win. I think the Heat responded with class immediately but lets see how classy they remain over the next few weeks. *cough *cough
