Eric Schmidt, chief executive officer of Google, has resigned from the board of Apple, the company said in a statement.
“Eric has been an excellent Board member for Apple, investing his valuable time, talent, passion and wisdom to help make Apple successful,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Unfortunately, as Google enters more of Apple’s core businesses, with Android and now Chrome OS, Eric’s effectiveness as an Apple Board member will be significantly diminished, since he will have to recuse himself from even larger portions of our meetings due to potential conflicts of interest. Therefore, we have mutually decided that now is the right time for Eric to resign his position on Apple’s Board.”
The way I see it, he got shown the door by Jobs. Back in May, Schmidt said he had no plans to resign from Apple’s board.
Over the last few days, as the Google Voice apps fiasco has taken on a life of its own, I have been busy pointing out that this battle was between Apple and Google.
I believe that AT&T has become a piñata in the high-stakes war being waged by Apple and Google. Why do we believe that these two companies are not in competition with each other? Is it because Eric Schmidt sits on the Apple board? This battle between Google and Apple is going to get very ugly — as it should. Both companies have pinned their futures on smartphones.
Golly, what a surprise!
Yeah, not really a surprise.
hhmmm i wonder…, will we be able to make phone calls on these “smart” phones??
Will they just be friends with privileges?
Poor Apple, first it was Microsoft stealing their OS future and now its Google stealing their VOIP future.
Its too bad that Apple only has all those hardware sales to fall back on.
Apple doesn’t want their hardware commoditized and they’ll fight like Hell before they let anybody do that to them.
The way they fight the hardware commoditization is by having unique software-hardware integration which they wouldn’t have under a Google OS.

Yeah, technologies that Apple “originally” came up with…

You don’t know what commoditized means, do you?
Maybe Al Gore can sit on Google’s board now.
Apple’s made their computers, phones, and OS proprietary and expensive. Now they get to reap the results of those policies, which won’t be too good.
Aside: I used to have an AT&T cell phone account. I dropped it about the time the iPhone was for sale, but cost considerably more than my old AT&T phone.
Now if they can get Al Gore to quit…
There’s room for Sarah Palin?
When you don’t care that much about either side it is rather liberating. It means you can cheer for both sides.
