This video of the 2008 Alaskan Independence Party (which wants to pull Alaska out of the USA and contends it was fraudulently made a state) outlines some plans and discusses the fact that Palin was a long time member. Todd was too. The video just surfaced recently.

  1. Brousse Laine says:

Getting to the (vice) presidency might have been the best way to get the independence.

  2. Leave it to a conspiracy theorist to suggest going back to AIP. Use Occam’s Razor and the answer is much simpler: she’s doing it for the money. She has a book coming out this fall and the money she makes from the speaking tour will set her financially for life. Beyond that is anybody’s guess.

  3. JimR says:

Alaska should just become part of Canada.
Either that or give Canada Florida… balance things aesthetically.

  4. Sea Lawyer says:

Don’t know about Alaska, but the annexing of Hawaii was certainly done under pretty sketchy circumstances.

  5. sargasso says:

Remind me how far away we are from the mid-term elections.

  6. deowll says:

Considering how well I think Washington is running the country I can understand how these people feel.

They can balance their books. They don’t have a fuel problem if left alone and greenhouse warming is most likely good for them.

By the way I just read a report that notes the planet has been getting warmer for the last 300 years.

I’m not sure how we are going to cut the use of fossil fuels by 20% but I suppose we can all get mopeds or scooters.

Most likely I won’t be able to pass the new federal standers for appliances and homes so I can ever sell my house either. It was built in 48. I guess when I die somebody will have to tear down the building before they can sell the lot.

    Just joking.

I’m confident that with wisdom and foresight our leaders have shown in the past the US will go bust in five to ten years max. The US is already in about the same shape as California. The best guess is we the people have 99 trillion in obligations and no way to meet them. Once the nation goes bust everybody will turn off their air-conditioning and nobody will be driving anywhere if they can avoid it. If this is correct we won’t have any problems meeting our goal to reduce fossil fuel use.

    Crazy Democrats.

People trying to get something for nothing is the source of all our problems. “ There aint no free lunch,” and pretending there is, is going to cost us everything.

  7. bobbo, a student of grass roos corruption says:

Geeze==all you repuglican operatives===STOP OUTING PALIN. LET HER LIE, SCHEME, BE STUPID. Don’t we good liberals want her to run?

C’mon, keep your eyes on the long game.

Even Obamagod can’t screw up so totally that Palin looks good and at the rate the Repugs are imploding, keeping the evangelical idiot base may be all a Repug needs to get nominated.

    Scary times.

  8. she talks abolut Independence here..I will be discussing this on NoAgenda on Sunday.

  9. deowll says:

This guy said she was. That doesn’t proved she signed a card.

I could say the person that posted this video belongs to the girl scouts. It doesn’t make it true.

  10. bobbo, looking for the moral compass says:

#8–do ill==by implication you agree that someone/anyone/much less an elected politician that advocated a State secede from the Union is NOT a good loyal patriotic American?

Is that right?—or, hypocrisy being no bar to a political shill, do you want to keep Palin’s options open?

  11. Montreal.Mike says:

why did she parade her young daughter out on stage like a beauty pageant mother, and stand there for her entire speech?
If she wants other people to respect her family’s privacy… shouldn’t she stop doing this these things to her kids?

  12. Scattergun says:

If the country had more Sarah Palins and fewer Hillary Clintons, we would all be much better off.

  13. Bushed says:

#12 – or at least a lot dumber!

  14. Dale says:

Santa is a feisty one during the off-season.

  15. Named says:

    3 JimR,

No thanks! We’re still trying to figure out how to remind Calgarians that that they are NOT Texans.

  16. David says:

If she wanted Alaska to secede from the US, why would she resign as governor of that state? That just doesn’t make any sense to me.

  17. Rick Cain says:

Lets hope its not something really bad, like her 9 year old daughter is pregnant.

  18. James Hill Owns Your Filter says:

More people not from Alaska talking about Alaska. How funny.

In reality, a good portion of the politicians in Alaska have been involved in these discussions. It’s part of the state fabric.

  19. terry oreilly says:

    FREEDOM.

We allow/encourage/push all these other groups to separate because we claim its the will of the people.

Why can THE people not have a referendum and vote whether they want to separate or not?

    Goose meet gander.

  20. ridin the short bus back to Seattle says:

Interesting as it is.. #20 Has a very valid Point.. but Big Brother says… Dont do as I do…Do as i say… we are less free to decide anything today then any time previous in history.. Persaonally I like the Idea. then we can see how long Texas or any other states remains.. it might be beneficial..ya never know!!! Seems Sarah and Todd are just average people in no so average circumstances… How do fill up an Alaska Immigration Form?.. I’m Game!!! I wonder if they’ll have a green card?…or an annual lottery for immigration?…

  21. Montreal.Mike says:

    # 19, sorry. We’ll all go back to ignoring Alaska… but we also respectfully ask that you never comment on anything in the future that doesn’t directly affect Alaska. Fair enough.

  22. Patrick says:

It would be interesting to see a couple state leave the Union. It would certainly shake up the country.
