At an 11:00 a.m. press conference today, Governor Sarah Palin announced that she would not seek a second term as governor. The governor continued saying in a few weeks she would resign the governorship.

On a day that most public employees have off, Palin sent out an early morning press release indicating that she would be giving an announcement from her home in Wasilla. Joining Palin were her parents, family and state commissioners.

Palin did not field questions and would not give any indications as to her future plans.

Palin announced that she will transfer power to Lt. Governor Sean Parnell. Parnell will be sworn in during the upcoming governor’s picnic.

WooHoo. Here we go!

  1. paddler says:

She can’t seriously think Americans are stupid or gullible enough to put her in the White House? (Wait, are we??) I would find it both amusing and scary if she is the best the Republicans can come up with in 2012.

She is most likely running for the senate first but even then I am hoping Alaskans are too smart for that knowing that she is quite obviously using them as a stepping stone.

I read that Vanity Fair article on her and if even half of it is true I doubt she could hold it together long enough to run a prolonged national race. She really is nuts.

  2. Cherman says:

I am hoping she tries to go for president. That way Ron Paul can finally win.

  3. Thomas says:

So, she’s going to run on a platform of continuous lack of experience? It smells fishy to me. I would not be surprised to discover that she was pushed out.

  4. loconavi says:

There goes Sarah Palin, ditching Alaska during a recession to run for President! When things get tough, weasels get running!

  5. ECA says:

    OK,
for those that dont know political history..
Look up some of our presidents..
Look up NIXON..see how long he was in the fed, and WHO he worked for.
Look up BUSH, Bush jr..then look up Grandpa BUSH, who tried to have the USA PRESIDENT assassinated..

  6. dusanmal says:

@#1-4 We welcome our first female President, Sarah (Thatcher) Palin.

I’d bet she’ll run on populist theme and that following will be great after all of the Obama’s ideological agenda. Why now? – Dem’s just won “killer majority” with Al Franken and will be shooting themselves in the foot shortly (populist uprising due to disappearing jobs and rising taxes for carbon and health care). No one holding office will be able to win.

  7. Flabbergasted says:

If she becomes President I’m moving.

  8. m.c. in l.v. says:

Quitter! What about her Pipeline to Nowhere? What a joke. See ya Grandma Gimmick. Hope we never have to see your prop baby and the rest of the Wasilla Chillbillies again. We’ll miss your salad of words. Uh, not really.

  9. roastedpeanuts says:

Oh my god.. somebody help us.

    hahahahaahhahahaha!

I figured that they saw some polling data that shows she is catastropic to the republican brand, and the power brokers pulled the plug and said no more.

  11. sadkins76 says:

Does she really think she has ANY chance? Wait, we did elect W twice…so maybe she does…

    Leave early, beat the rush.
Enjoy the day of Independance 1st!

  13. Bob3000 says:

She may be preparing to accept a contract to pose in magazines and websites:

  14. detorn says:

makes no sense to leave the office to run… she would be in a much better position to raise loot with the power of the office behind her… somebody must have had something big on her to force her out.

  15. contempt says:

Considering the magnitude in which democrats and the liberal media have shamelessly attacked this woman I’d say there are at least two groups who nervously believe she can win.

    Smell the fear.

  16. GregA says:

    She is pregnant again.

  17. GregA says:

    #15,

Generally Im not afraid of pregnant women.

  18. Awake says:

Two years from now the response to her fans will be… “Sarah who?”

The normal way to do this is to announce your candidacy and “In the interest of the people of my state, I am resigning because I can not dedicate myself full time… blah blah…”

But she quit as governor for no declared reason in the middle of her first term.

There is more to this story, and it probably won’t be positive news about her.

Regardless, if she is quitting to run for other office, this is as politically idiotic as McCain “suspending his campaign” last year because of the financial crisis.

I guess we are just waiting for the next generation of Republicans to show, one that is not of the retarded “Dubya” generation.

  19. GregA says:

    #18,

I disagree. Leaving office to take care of your retarded son, and unborn child is a very positive thing to do.

  20. jccalhoun says:

creationist, limbaugh-loving, high school drop-outs everywhere are hoping for the day…

  21. Flip Wilson says:

Did she finally have a psychotic break and loose what little sense of sanity she had? Yea, I’m going to vote for somebody who gets bored and walks away… Just like her 6 colleges in 6 years. Can’t start and finish anything. Yea, that’s what I’d vote for.

  22. qb says:

Oh please, please, please, please let this happen.

The only downside is the conservative whining will go into high gear. I thought liberals were embarrassing when they did it, but they got nothing on the right.

  23. KneeJerk Optimist says:

President?? Nawww…I bet she just wants to get her own show on Fox, where she can burble and rant to her heart’s content (maybe even replace Coulter…and even Limbaugh too! Imagine all the far right nut cases finally having a nice bod to drool over and distract them…jerking their johnsons)

  24. jbenson2 says:

#1 paddler said: “She can’t seriously think Americans are stupid or gullible enough to put her in the White House? (Wait, are we??)”

The same question can be asked and answered regarding The Messiah, the unemployment king.

Obama can’t seriously think Americans are stupid or gullible enough to put him in the White House? (Wait, are were!!!)

  25. TooManyPuppies says:

Not running for a second term that would interfere with a run for president is understandable. Resigning in the middle of her current term is just retarded. Whatever… I wouldn’t vote for her anyway.

  26. Improbus says:

I am sure that Jon Stewart is dancing a jig. The comedy sort of writes itself.

  27. RBG says:

    Congress, not president.

    RBG

  28. wirelessg says:

#23 is correct. She will be getting her own TV show. She knows that her political popularity/celebrity is waning and if she stays as Alaska governor, she will cease to exist in the national media. She is not running for Senate or President or any political office. The Republican power brokers won’t support her seeking higher office. She will sign a lucrative contract that will be 10-20 times what she has ever earned and that will pay for her family needs for a quite a while.

  29. Petrov says:

Who cares… the USA is bankrupt in 10 years anyway. Congress has always been the real problem in this nation. I don’t care who the president is anymore, not with the spend, spend, spend retards in Congress.

  30. deowll says:

She’ll get some fairly decent coverage from Fox and every other media source will have her tarred as a cross between Hitler and Satan.

I still think her biggest sin in the eyes of the liberal media was the fact that she didn’t abort that last kid.

They will never, ever forgive her for that.
