The Nazis open the Arc of the Covenant

The patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Ethiopia says he will announce to the world Friday the unveiling of the Ark of the Covenant, perhaps the world’s most prized archaeological and spiritual artifact, which he says has been hidden away in a church in his country for millennia, according to the Italian news agency Adnkronos.

Abuna Pauolos, in Italy for a meeting with Pope Benedict XVI this week, told the news agency, “Soon the world will be able to admire the Ark of the Covenant described in the Bible as the container of the tablets of the law that God delivered to Moses and the center of searches and studies for centuries.”

  1. GF says:

Great, here comes the Messiah. This should be interesting.

  2. RTaylor says:

Like the relics of the bones of Saints? Some Saints would have to have 50 hands, 30 hearts and 100 skulls. There’s enough pieces of the original cross to build Noah’s Ark.

  3. someone else says:

Strange that the ark of the covenant is being released the day after Michael Jackson died. What too soon?

  4. amodedoma says:

Can there be any doubt that the appocalyse is near! 😉

  5. Benjamin says:

How do we know this is real? Will someone be willing to open it and see. If they don’t melt like the Nazi in Indiana Jones, then it is a fake ark of the covenant. If it real, then two mosque in Jerusalem need to be bulldozed to make room for a Temple to put the thing. That might not go over so well.

More likely it is a fake:

“And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.” — Jeremiah 3:12

  6. Dallas says:

Why was it was hidden all this time?

I bet Moses did drop lose 5 of the 15 commandments and now the church wants to come clean.

  7. Hugh Ripper says:

#7 Interesting that you would rely on science to prove the authenticity of a religious artefact. Have a little faith!

  8. qb says:

How many times can they find this frickin’ thing?

  9. wirelessg says:

Geraldo Rivera is on his way to Ethiopia right now. Al Capone’s vault held so many possible secrets as well.

Hopefully the 10 Commandments had a Creative Commons license attached to it or a lot of people owe gazillions in royalties.

  11. Named says:

    10,

If they never vigorously defended their IP, they have no hope in hell of proving it in court… But, I guess there might be a few lawyers in a particular country will to do some pro-bono work…

  12. Named says:

    7, AlfredENewman

You only DOUBT it’s genuine? *facepalm*

  13. Zybch says:

#7 It’ll be about as authentic and genuine as that bullshit stunt James Cameron pulled a couple of years ago.
Face it guys, faith is based upon, well, faith. An artifact like the Ark would deny faith simply by existing, just like EVERY SINGLE OTHER supposedly religious artifact in existence, none of which by the way, ever pass any scientific tests of authenticity.

  14. qb says:

Zybech, oh come on. The bible proves the universe was created in six days by some old guy. However, the actual miracle is that he did it without the benefit of a Starbucks in his neighbourhood.

  15. qb says:

The more I think about it, the more I’m starting to wonder about the “God” guy. Apparently that’s not his real name. Where does he live? No known address. Does he have a job? Pay taxes? Vote? Nadda.

All very suspicious, don’t you think?

  16. Named says:

Hold on a second here guys… are we talking about the Bible or the Egyptian book of the dead? The similarities always confuse me…

EDS- I took out the http://WWW... Happy?

  17. Personality says:

Well. If they don’t let scientists carbon date it, We will know it is fake.

  18. qb says:

Let me get this straight Alfred1. You’re telling me this God guy, if that’s really his name, keeps his secret stash in Ethiopia?

    He’s a rastafarian?

  19. Awake says:

And the source of this news is “WorldNetDaily”. Oh yeah, that’s a reliable source… never mind that it is one of the most racist, hate filled, truth bending rags out there, filled with made up stories. That source is as lying and hypocritical as the man that controls it: that scumbag piece of shit hate-monger “the Jewish Nazi” Michael Savage.

And of course Alfred1 goes for the all deceptive win-win answer: If it is fake, it is because the real one is in heaven, but if for some reason it is shown to be ‘real’ it proves the whole bible. Alfred1 and his self serving deceptions: “Fake: I win. Real: I win.” Screw you Alfred1.

  20. Barnaby says:

The only problem is, who’s going to send them $1,000 so they can send the thing here?

  21. Named says:

    22,

You mean this one? I think it’s for you…

  22. Named says:

    26 AlfredENewman

“#24 My position is the voice of reason…in contrast to your deranged tirade…”

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA… How do you come up with this stuff?

  23. Angus says:

There’s been an archaeolgical consensus for years that if it still exists at all, it’s in Ethiopia. I guess night find out once and for all.

  24. Named says:

    30, AlfredENewman

Even your jokes are pathetic. I guess it’s important that you try…

  25. orangetiki says:

You show me a resurrected holy artifact thought to be lost to the ages, and I will show you a ticket booth charging $20 for the sheep to line up to get a touch.

  26. Now for Something Completely Different says:

I wonder if it would be as big of a story if one of the other similar myths came out with some magical object. If someone claimed to find the hammer of Thor, or the chariot of Apollo?

Sorry, of COURSE those are totally made up fictional religions, not like one which is of course actually real.

    Long live the FSM!

  27. qb says:

Come on guys, it’s the genuine article. We’ll use good old fashioned bible science to prove it. You take a powerful poultice made from chicken soup and leaches to suck all powerful godiness out of the artifact and it can be used as a holy grenade to smite down our enemies who would lust after the white virgins of our suburbs.

And Alfred1 only doubts that it’s genuine, which means there is a possibility it’s the real thing. In other words, that’s reason enough to teach about it in Texas schools.

  28. Ron Larson says:

Great. This is liking getting your lost wallet back… with everything missing. What’s the value of the ark if the contents are gone?

  29. CastMyCrown says:

    To #17 and All,

Read the scripture for what it says. Pay close attention:

19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: (Rev 11:19 KJV)

Where is John in this part of the vision? Called up, right? Well, I wonder if he was looking down and saw the heavens open? That is very plausible.

Also, if the scripture is talking about a vision/dream or being in the spirit; the language is figurative. It is not in a dream/vision or in the spirit then it is literal.

Honestly, I hope this is the real thing. That will mean that my Lord and Saviour is coming back very soon! Praise God forever! Get right people or get left. The second death is everlasting. Come to know Jesus and ask him to forgive you of your sins. Get baptized and confess that Jesus is your King & Lord. Right now it is not to late, but the next fifteen minutes could be to late. Are you willing to gamble with eternity? I’m not!

  30. killer duck says:

Can’t they just look at the copyright date to determine how old the contents are?
    🙂
Sadly, that would work for about half of America.
