The FBI has arrested an Internet blogger from New Jersey on charges of threatening three prominent Chicago judges who authored an anti-gun rights ruling earlier this month.

Hal Turner, 47, of North Bergen, N.J., allegedly posted a headline “These judges deserve to be killed,” supplemented the next day by, “Judges official public work addresses and a map of the area are below. Their home addresses and maps will follow soon. Behold these devils.”

Below this headline, the entry listed the names, photos, phone numbers, work addresses and room numbers of the three judges involved in the handgun decision, as well as a photo of the Dirksen Federal Courthouse in Chicago and a map, according to an affidavit. The photo of the building had been modified to include arrows and a label referencing “Anti-truck bomb barriers,” according to the affidavit…

We take threats to federal judges very seriously. Period,” Patrick J. Fitzgerald, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, said in a written statement.

Turner is charged with threatening to assault and murder three federal judges. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, if convicted.

The NRA and other nutballs will consider him a hero.

    In fact, all of the restrictions placed on the Federal Government in the Bill of Rights, now also apply to the states as well because of the 14th. This is well established. Yet, these three bozos think that the 2nd Amendment is some sort of exception?

    Almost.

    It is well established that State and Federal governments may regulate behavior, even under the Bill of Rights. Thus, under certain circumstances the government may prohibit people gathering in a certain area, or allow specific entry into your house without warrant. They may also prohibit the personal ownership of certain types of weapons such as rocket launchers or nuclear bombs.

    These three “bozos” as you call them, were only following precedent as laid out by the Supreme Court.

    According to the article, the judges ruled that the Chicago ban was valid because the 2nd Amendment only restricted the federal government, not the states.

    14th Amendment:

    No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States

    Clearly, if the Supreme Court has ruled that the 2nd Amendment was violated by the federal government with the handgun ban in D.C., then that same immunity is being violated by the City of Chicago with its ban.

    No, assassinating judges that infringe your right to self defence if no other recourse was possible. They would have tarred and feathered them, then launched all out war when the red shirts (think ATF / FBI etc.) attacked. They did advocate killing (and killed about 2,500 people, mainly enemy soldiers). I am not American but I did do American history in high school.

    Re-write it to say what? A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed?

    I do not approve, I would advocate voting for people that uphold the constitution and arresting those who do not (pretty much all of your representatives), or change the constitution through referendum, but yes the Founding Fathers would have.

    The work addresses and telephone numbers of the judges should be in the phone book, so no problem posting that.

    Saying “They deserve to be killed” is different from saying they “should be killed”.

    The home addresses and/or phone numbers, er, ah, most likely not. I’d assume that the judges are unlisted. This is where he really screwed up.

    Of course, his obsession with it makes him a nutball.

    As for the judges, they should be removed from office (are there recalls or confirmation votes for judges in Illinois like in Calif.?) Any first year history student could prove them wrong.

    As for the NRA, yes, they advocate the ownership and use of firearms. Outside the military, they are also the primary advocates and educators regarding gun safety BECAUSE they are well aware of the destruction that guns can cause when misused. Note that a firearm is an inanimate object. Those who blame guns for destruction are no brighter than those who blame the table leg when they stub their toe on it.

    On the other hand I consider the guy that posted the story and gave his views to be a narrow minded bigot but that most likely shouldn’t get him arrested.

    Of course he is guilty of slander and might stand for prosecution if a new law about on line bullying goes into effect.

    However many liberals considered it to be good clean fun to tell vicious lies about conservatives so maybe not. In some states this protection might only apply to liberals.
