This was the top story on AP at 3:50pm PST. Since AP will sue your ass for posting or linking to their stories, I present the story from one of the other 342 sources Google has links to about this Earth shattering development. I’m sure glad nothing else is happening in the world to push this story from the headlines.

On the eve of Father’s Day, the First Father showed how it’s done, taking his daughters Malia and Sasha for some frozen treats at The Daily Godmother, a boutique custard parlor in Alexandria.

President Obama and his girls motorcaded over to Alexandria from the White House this afternoon. Malia had a waffle cone of vanilla custard and Sasha had her vanilla custard in a cup. The president enjoyed a cup of vanilla custard with hot fudge and toasted almonds, a pool reporter was told by the shopkeeper. The three were in the shop for about 15 minutes, where they sat at a table to enjoy their snacks.

As they left, the trio received applause from the staff and customers inside and a small crowd outside. Carrying a bag of frozen “puppy pops” for the First Dog, Bo, Obama waved to the crowd before stepping into his SUV for the short jaunt back to the White House.

  1. MikeN says:

    Motorcade?

What was the carbon footprint for this ice cream?

  2. gquaglia says:

What they didn’t mention was that this was probably planned for the last week and also the thousands of people who had their lives disrupted just so this guy can get an ice cream cone.

  3. Floyd says:

I like the Obamas, but there are better things for the press to report about than a visit to a (boutique???) frozen custard stand. Give ’em a break, people!

  4. Jägermeister says:

Big deal. How much did Bush’s vacation days cost?

  5. jbenson2 says:

No mention of the food taster?

Remember the high cuisine on his European trip had to be checked by the authorized food taster.

  6. pcsmith says:

I had regular yogurt for breakfast. I can post the video on utube if requested.

    Enjoyed Hodgman’s speech last night.

  7. jbenson2 says:

Iranians are pleading for freedom, while the dictators are killing protestors.

    What does Obama do?

He rounds up the secret service and goes out for ice cream.

    Yes, Pecan.

  8. Patrick says:

    Way to go Associated Peons.

  9. Brandon says:

While I’m not a fan of Obama’s policies , he certainly knows where to get good frozen custard in the DC area. The Dairy Godmother is a transplant from Wisconsin (America’s Dairyland), and always has something tasty up her sleeve.

  10. Orlando Cat Skinner says:

    mmmm, frozen pus.

  11. faxon says:

When BJ Clinton was in SF a few years back, the Secret Service closed down a huge part of Howard Street just so he could have lunch at LuLu’s Restaurant. Pedestrians were not even allowed to walk down the other side of the street. What a hassle. These guys should just stay inside of their Ivory Towers. Better for everybody.
And for the AP to describe the stupid ice cream down to the nuts IS nuts. Isn’t there anything else going on in Washington???

  12. Sea Lawyer says:

Mmm, I had a frozen custard waffle cone today too, although I’m about 15 miles south of where he had his.

  13. RSweeney says:

Surely we should have a cable tv and satellite channel dedicated to this kind of cutting edge journalism.

Oh yeah… MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC

    Sorry, forgot they were there.

  14. Jägermeister says:

#7 – jbenson2 – Iranians are pleading for freedom, while the dictators are killing protestors.

    What does Obama do?

Bush was playing golf while Americans where dying in his meaningless invasion of Iraq.

  15. Rick's Cafe says:

President goes out to eat ice cream & MSNBC is showing re-runs….what an evening of news. Guess all those other stations covering the riots are wrong.

  16. deowll says:

Nice to know somebody is living the good life.

I think I’ll take a pass on the cheap shot. At least he is still trying to stay in contact with real people.

  17. Usagi says:

    “…a boutique custard parlor…”?!?!?

To quote Glenn Beck, “I weep for my country!”

  18. meetsy says:

Our press has nothing better to do…or else to cover, as they’ve become a bunch of blabbering brainless morons. If they were spoon feed this “reporting stuff” they’d probably talk about their hairdresser as news.

  19. Glenn E. says:

Hopefully, custard is a code word for ice cream. Because I really dislike real custard. That eggy pudding really disgusts me. I’ll stick to the tapioca varieties (sans any egg). With the possible exception of Egg Nog, I’m not a fan of egg based desserts or beverages.

  20. brm says:

People who like Obama more after this = suck.

People who hate Obama more after this = suck.

  21. seeingitreal says:

    {Bush was playing golf while Americans where dying in his meaningless invasion of Iraq.}

So acting like Bush is ok. Got it. I guess the “hope” is that no one will care that the “change” is yogurt instead of golf.

The fact that Bush was a douche is utterly irrelevant to Obama’s actions. The sooner Dems realize that the better. This Bush Derangement Syndrome the rightwing is always going on about is apparently true…you people really don’t have anything to contribute except for hatred for Bush.

Do us a favor and STFU. Middle America sees Dems as people who hate Bush, not people who have any real ideas. Until you convince them otherwise, the country will remain divided and against us.

    Got it?

  22. brm says:

    #23:

    Bingo.

As someone who hated Bush, this logic that Obama-ain’t-Bush isn’t really winning me over.

  23. e? says:

WOW! I’m so glad the media has all the important stories (like this one) covered. They do such a good job providing oversight of the federal government.

  24. Waffe says:

Those that adore Obama see this as serious front page news. Look for custard sales to go through the roof, with network reporters in the front of the line.

  25. Toxic Asshead says:

#14 – Ummm, I just saw piece on one of the propaganda networks talking about how Barry’s taking up golf now and really likes it.

  26. FlatAffect says:

    This thread is very funny.

You guys jump all over the President for taking his kids out for a treat, jump all over the press for covering it like a news story, go onto wild tangents about Bush, Iraq and Iran, Democrats and Republicans…

Hey! Both armed camps! Guess what? YOU are way, way worse than what YOU are complaining about, for all the exact same reasons.

    Har!

Talk about a bunch of morans!

  27. Jägermeister says:

    #23 – seeingitreal

Wow… you wear your martyrdom dress today. Everyone is against us… us poor bible thumping fundamentalists…

The bottom line is that Obama has the right to take his family on trips and yes, that involves having his security staff with him.

  28. Mr. Fusion says:

    #29, Jag,

    Just to add,

And Bush went home to Crawford to clear brush while people were drowning in New Orleans. But he witnessed first hand their plight from 5,000 ft. Up.

Second, I do think Obama would like to have some time out with his family without the intrusiveness of all the SS there. It’s called privacy, and believe it or not, all normal people do crave it.

  29. Jägermeister says:

    #30 – Mr. Fusion

Dead on regarding Bush. He was and is an asshole.

I’m sure Obama wants some private time with his family. But it won’t be something he’ll experience much of for the next 3 3/4 years… or hopefully 7 3/4 years. He knew the job requirements. 😉

  30. jbenson2 says:

#14 It is getting tiresome to hear Jägermeister’s constant sidetracking of current issues with his pathetic BDS tirades.
