This guy delves into a number of areas from the economy to foreign policy and comes to the conclusion that… Have to read the article to find out.

Picture, if you will, an America apparently like our own. A country like ours bogged down in war on two fronts and suffering from the greatest economic slump since the Great Depression of the 1930s. An America indistinguishable from ours in every respect except that when you turn on the nightly news you see the face of President John Sidney McCain …

OK, Rod Serling as host of “The Twilight Zone” probably would have said it better. But seriously — where would we be in the summer of 2009, if in last November’s election John McCain rather than Barack Obama had been elected president of the United States?

“No difference!” would be the answer of those alienated populists and leftists for whom Republicans and Democrats are merely different tentacles of the same Bilderberger or Trilateral Commission octopus. Certainly from the perspectives of socialists or libertarians — or fascists or Islamic theocrats — the consensus shared by America’s two parties seems much greater than their differences. But from the vantage point of mainstream American politics, the differences between the Obama administration and a hypothetical McCain administration would have been real and can be vividly illustrated by counterfactual history.

After reading his conclusions, what do you think our world would be like today, June 16, 2009?

  1. Pretty much the same for summer 2009 in the US it will take more time to see the effects of that course change. In the Middle East not good, the hate America crowed would not be in the decline. In N. Korea the same crazy is as crazy does. Comedians and Satirist more material then they could handle.

The bigger question is what would the world be like if the McCain of 2000 had won instead of Gore (I mean Bush/NeoCon Puppet).

  2. MikeN says:

The rest of the world wouldn’t feel that America would abandon them, and so Hezbollah would have been reelected in Lebanon instead of being thrown out.

The Prez wouldn’t have waited 3 days to talk about the Iranan elections, and he wouldn’t have just said ‘troubled’ while saying he was ‘shocked and outraged’ by the murder of George Tiller.

  3. Patrick says:

    # 34 Named said, “Your Founding Fathers didn’t create a “Democracy” but a “Republic””

Which turned out to be the greatest nation the Earth has ever seen. I bet you don’t even live in a sovereign nation…

  4. Named says:

    38,

Paddy-O, you’re an idiot too. I was explaining to that psycho Alfred that the US wasn’t founded as a Democracy but as a Republic. Thank you for not adding any value but the fact that you’re still in your moms basement and have no comprehension skills.

  5. Rick says:

    Reality check on democracy: California.

Vote yes on spending, vote no on taxes. No one to blame but the voters when it all goes up in smoke.

  6. MikeN says:

Oh yea, there would be a cap-and-trade bill proposed by the President.

Because he has an (R) after his name, envionmentalist groups would call it a corporate sellout, and a sham.

Also, ABC would not be running a broadcast out of the White House with fawning interviews, to help sell a presidential proposal.

Plus liberals would consider the new attorney general a fascist.

  7. Rick says:

Ooops….I made a mistake. You can always blame illegal immigration. I forgot.

  8. Named says:

    39,

You are STILL an idiot. Did you fill out Column 2 yet? Your Republic dissolved sometime around 1933… You now have a half-baked democracy / republic. It has nothing to do with Obama you moron.

Paddy-O will chirp in here with some inanity and then add LOL.

  9. If McCain had thrown billions and billions in corporate welfare to prop-up big banks and industry, the Democrats would have called him a tool of big business.

Because Obama is doing it, that means the banks are corporations are “too big to fail.”

  10. I think all we need to do to imagine a McCain presidency is to imagine if Bush were still in office … and had gone senile in addition to being stupid.

To all those who think it would not be any different, you aren’t paying attention.

This article is actually quite well written and makes a lot of sense. Note that the author is not an Obama lover, as he has pointed out a couple of issues on which Obama has not maintained his campaign stance into his presidency.

I think it’s a pretty objective guess about the way things might have been with McBush. Whether such speculation is important is another issue, and one about which I do not feel strongly.

One bet though, even though Obama has not yet fully restored our constitution from a backup copy (e.g. leaving faith based discrimination in place and even ratcheting it up a notch), one can bet that with McBush in power, the only remaining constitutional right would be the right to bear arms.

  11. If McCain had been elected, we wouldn’t have a Muslim terrorist without a birth certificate living in the White House.

Instead, there would be an angry white man with his finger on the nuclear button raving about gooks and Commies and forgetting whether he owns ten houses or twelve.

  12. Patrick says:

    # 47 Animal Mother said, “Instead, there would be an angry white man with his finger on the nuclear button raving about gooks and Commies and forgetting whether he owns ten houses or twelve.”

Closer estimate than thinking there are 57 states! LOL
But seriously, we lose either way.

  13. jccalhoun says:

If your enemy sees you as weak, they attack…its their time…

So I guess George W. Bush was weak then.

Closer estimate than thinking there are 57 states!
Or not knowing how many houses you own…

  14. Rabble Rouser says:

Iran would have nuked Israel, N.Korea would have bombed Japan, S. Korea, and China, there would have been bailouts for every large corporation who wanted them, less taxes for the rich, the middle class gone, higher unemployment, and the world on the verge of WW III.

Oh yeah, and Sarah Palin would still be able to see Russia from her house, while Darth Vader, I mean Dick Cheney would be our representative to the UN, and Dubya would be cutting brush in Crawford.

  15. MikeN says:

McCain would have done things to help his political buddies, only this time the media would point out this corruption, instead of ignoring it like they do with Obama. For example, Rezko, or the firing of Walpin.

  16. jbenson2 says:

OK, let’s look at another ludicrous prediction:

Obama solves all our problems and does not socialize the USA private industry while driving our grandchildren into bankruptcy.

Would Uncle Dave post a similar analysis and compare Obama to McCain? Of course not!

Obviously the left is just trying to justify the total failure of the Obama presidency.

  17. faxon says:

I’ll tell you one thing, I would have spent less money on hardware.

  18. 9yo says:

The folks who financed O’s campaign financed Mc’s they are the true decision makers. Who knows if it would be the exact same under repubs or dems but the “deciders” would always come out ahead.

  19. cornholer says:

The Same… He is a dumbass too. He voted for the wall street bail out. He says one thing and then votes the other way. Worthless. The gooks fucked him up.

  20. Improbus says:

The scariest part of a McCain administration would be Sarah Palin being one heart beat away from the presidency. That bimbo is bonkers and the wing nuts love her like the commies loved Stalin.

  21. jbenson2 says:

#58 said: The scariest part of a McCain administration would be Sarah Palin being one heart beat away from the presidency.

    I’ll double down.
The scariest part of a Obama administration is Joe “Plugs” Biden being one heart beat away from the presidency and Nancy “Botox” Pelosi being two heart beats away.

  22. orangetiki says:

If McCain was president, no one would have faith in this country anymore. Companies would be free to dick over the American populous ($6 per gallon, 40% interest on credit cards, etc), and plus I would see a lot more “patriot act” style legislature coming down the pipes and a lot of young adults moving to Canada. We’d probably go backwards in culture, technology, and society. Not because of Obama, but because McCain and Palin are straight up wackos. They are the politicians who give politics a bad name. They are as modern as pneumatic tubes. We should be progressing into the 21st century, not returning to the 1940’s-50’s.

  23. thinker says:

The middle class would be gone.

  24. Aaron says:

Similar except maybe for the distractions, but then again McCain was never meant to be president, just the only person they could use to split the vote enough for people to continue to believe that their votes matter.

  25. LibertyLover says:

No difference. McBushama all belong to the same union.

  26. Mr. Fusion, says:

    #27, Alphie,

History indicates you are wrong…When Margret Thatcher became PM, there was war…Golda Meir…war…JFK…missile crisis; etc

    Oh how very true.

Under Eisenhower we invaded Lebanon. Under Reagan we invaded Grenada. Under Bush I we invaded Panama. Yup. All those courageous Republican Presidents. They showed the world how strong we were!

  27. Rick's Cafe says:

As the official idiot of the blog, let me remind you….

Oh wait a minute I can’t say that, somebody else has already claimed that title and he’s not even a conservative. Never mind.

    ROTFL

  28. Patrick says:

#40 & 44. What form of gov does your country have? Is it a sovereign country? Just curious.

  29. Named says:

    68,

Yeah… came out wrong. I was referring to Alfred1 who has again quoted himself incorrectly… See 66.

    67,

Those doctors in Grenada were almost Communists. Ronnie was very brave for sending in the Marines…

  30. raster says:

    The same? Hah!

Just like in 2000 – we would be in exactly the same situation now if Gore had been appointed president by the supreme court rather than Dubya…
