Georgia political hacks want Edwards on the state Supreme Court.

The Georgia Supreme Court on has thrown out a judge’s order that prohibited children in a divorce case from having any contact with their father’s gay and lesbian friends.

The ruling was hailed by gay rights groups who said the decision focuses on the needs of children instead of perpetuating a stigma on the basis of sexual orientation.

The state high court’s decision overturned Fayette County Superior Court Judge Christopher Edwards’ blanket prohibition against exposing the children to their father’s gay partners and friends…

The Fayette County judge’s prohibition “assumes, without evidentiary support, that the children will suffer harm from any such contact,” Justice Robert Benham wrote. But there is no evidence that any member of the gay and lesbian community has engaged in inappropriate conduct in the presence of the children or that the children would be adversely affected by being exposed to members of that community, he said…

Beth Littrell, staff attorney for the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund in Atlanta, said the visitation order was the most sweeping of its kind she had seen in Georgia.

“Placing a blanket ban on children’s association with gay people not only hurts this father’s relationship with his children, it is blatant discrimination,” Littrell said. “The court has done the right thing today by focusing on the needs of the children instead of perpetuating stigma on the basis of sexual orientation.”

Littrell was pleased the ruling took decisions like this away from “the prejudices of individual judges.” Which is why Georgia politicians want to put more homophobes on the State Supreme Court.

  1. Yawn.

    Troll bait.

  2. morram says:

I really miss the days when gay and lesbian had their own drinking fountains and restrooms.

  3. Rabble Rouser says:

Why not institute a policy where GLBTs all have ‘separate but equal’ rights, as was done in the 40s and 50s?

What a bunch of bovine fecal matter. Why shouldn’t GLBTs have the same rights as the rest of us? Why shouldn’t they be allowed the same misery of marriage as straight people? Why shouldn’t GLBTs be allowed to serve our country?
WTF is wrong with these people, and why do they hate our country, and its basic principle of freedom and justice for ALL?!?!?!?!

rofl… is this for real? it is 2009, yes?

how did this become an issue now?

heck, in summer ’79 when i was 16, i dressed up in drag to do a few floor shows for RHPS on 52nd street and i’ve yet to go “poof – i’m gay”

    *shrug*

-guess i should be happy my parents never pushed religion on me.

    -s

  5. Patrick says:

    # 4 soundwash said, “how did this become an issue now?”

Two parents tussling over their kids. Nothing and nothing that will ever change.

  6. SRG says:

    am i reading this right?

“with their *father’s* gay and lesbian friends” [emphasis added]

so it’s ok to meet mom’s “special friend” but not dad’s ???

  7. Mr. Fusion, says:

Actually, I am glad this is an issue. It shows how far we have progressed as a society to realize that discrimination is not right. Not too many years ago this decision would not have been given a second thought and any gay and lesbian friends would have probably been arrested for indecent behavior.

  8. Breetai says:

Ahh the days of stuffing the gays in back of the bus…

Get a real discrimination case. Fing whiners got no sympathy for em.

  9. Brian says:

even money that NAMBLA lobbied for this…

  10. Special Ed says:

This is an early sign that your son is gay:

    #9, Brian,

    Why?

Or better yet, how does an interest group “lobby” a court?

  12. Cap'nKangaroo says:

#11 I think he is under the mistaken impression that gays and lesbians are interested in molesting young children.

My understanding is most, if not all, molesters consider themselves heterosexual with people of their own age.

Anybody stopping Alfie’s kids from meeting HIS Born Again and Bible Thumping (BABT) friends?

  14. sac says:

    #14, Alphie,

I’ll dispense with the usual sarcasm and try to educate you a little.

Pedophilia is almost always a rape. Rapes are usually a control and / or power exercise over the victim. When a pedophile rapes a child, through either force, suasion, or trickery, it doesn’t matter what the victim’s sex is. It is about the power to do it.

The Rev. Denise Barker, associate pastor of University United Methodist Church, said, “Rape is an act of violence, hatred, aggression and control. Violence is the common denominator,” she said.

“The Christian community has done little. The church has been sadly silent on this issue,” Barker said.

  15. Im all for equal rights between races, men, women, etc. But this gay issue has gone way too far. I mean, in its basic form it is just unnatural. Even animals understand this basic concept. You mate to survive and populate. Two beings with different strengths and weaknesses coming together to form one. two men can’t do it, and two woman can’t do it. A man and a woman can only fulfill this. Its pretty basic.
Im not a hater, but I have the right to express my opinion and not agree with your lifestyle.
