WASHINGTON, June 14 (Reuters) – CIA director Leon Panetta says it’s almost as if former vice president Dick Cheney would like to see another attack on the United States to prove he is right in criticizing President Barack Obama for abandoning the “harsh interrogation” of terrorism suspects.

“I think he smells some blood in the water on the national security issue,” Panetta said in an interview published in The New Yorker magazine’s June 22 issue. “It’s almost, a little bit, gallows politics. When you read behind it, it’s almost as if he’s wishing that this country would be attacked again, in order to make his point.”

Cheney, who was a key advocate in the Bush administration of controversial interrogation methods such as waterboarding, has become as a leading Republican critic of Obama’s ban on harsh interrogations and his plan to shut the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. In a blistering May 21 speech, Cheney said Obama’s reversal of Bush-era policies were “unwise in the extreme” that would make the American people less safe.

Panetta called Cheney’s actions “dangerous politics.”

He told The New Yorker he had favored the creation of an independent truth commission to look into the detainee polices of former President George W. Bush. But the idea died in April when Obama decided such a panel could be seen as politically vindictive.

My guess is yes.

Yep, after reading this thread, I definately feel better with Obama in control. His fan-boys are still out, blaming any and everything on somebody else, not “the one”.

And for what it’s worth, with Painyetta’s admission today, Cheny was put in play by a “main street media” Obama loving reporter, the independent journalist integrity be damned type..

Meanwhile, Biden didn’t cause a tweak for the exact remark, HE MADE. What a bunch of hypocrites.

    # 93 Robart,

Help me to understand typical REPUKACANS thinking.

You asked “is Dvorak becoming part of the state run media?”. The question you asked; seemed in a style of, for any one presenting something or anything that disagrees with your viewpoint; that becomes tantamount to being “state run”.

Is this type of bogus logic typical of how you Cheney/Rush types think?

  3. Robart says:

#99 I’m not a Republican and the only Rush I listen to is on KZEP Classic Rock so…….

“Then please explain the meaning of his warlike attitude and blustering.”

What warlike attitude? You mean keeping us safe is warlike? Blustering? You mean coming off as strong and certain to societies that hate signs of weakness? OK, I guess he’s guilty of that.

“Explain his support and implementation of torture.”

I can’t because he didn’t support or implement torture. So he actually was there turning the thumbscrews in his implementation? That’s quite a stretch.

Your assertion that he supported and implemented torture is nothing more than your opinion disguised as a statement of fact. Harsh interrogation is not playing patty cake with terrorist but it’s certainly not torture. I’m sure you would ask the smart questions of “name, rank and serial number” to enemy combatants who are not part of a uniformed army.

“Explain his pushing the War in Iraq instead of going after bin Laden.”

So what you’re saying is that there’s a connection in the war on terror between Iraq and Afghanistan? Interesting, I only thought Neocons made that connection. Maybe there is hope for you after all.

  5. RSweeney says:

The problem with liberals is that so many think everyone else thinks the same kind of vindictive, petty thoughts that they do.

It’s why they are terrified of their neighbors having guns. It’s why they think that everyone is a child needing a nanny government to care for them.

And it’s why they would believe that Dick Cheney would wish that Americans die for an “I told you so” egotistical moment.

    Because they would.

    Hey # 71 Great American

“Would Cheney like to see US Attacked Just to Prove a Point?”

The question is not a leading question nor is it a stupid question.

The question calls for no more then a “NO” or a “YES” reply. The “leading” is what you read into it! The question is nothing more then a simple Rorschach test.

What is the REPUKACANS logic behind the re-branding of people questioning Cheney/Bush/War as “leading”, “stupid”, “unpatriotic”, “suspicious” …?

    #38 Jägermeister,

That thought alone could unite both political parties just like Harriet Myers did.

    #97, Cow-Patty,

    # 96 Mr. Fusion, said, “So Biden didn’t suggest that America would be hit by a terrorist attack in six months.”

He did and he was correct. The 1st one since 9/11…

More of your trolling bullshit? Please show us the transcript of where Biden said it.

Then explain how you so conveniently forgot that the years 2004, 2005, and 2006, saw record numbers of terrorists attacks around the world. A sizable number of them were against Americans too.

  9. Great American says:

#103 Yah, I get it dude. You think he’s the most evil man in the world. I don’t think it’s a problem of questioning leadership but of doing it poorly. By all means express yourself, continue to do it poorly and pretend you’re being persecuted because of it…knock yourself out pal!

    # 106 Great American,

Ouch, your such the great communicator, you are.

People must just bow in humble obedience to your ever evident superior intelligence.

O teach me, wise REPUKACAN. Teach me in the way of REPUKACAN wisdom. Make me more Nixon/Rush/Bush/Cheney like; to lie, evade the draft, kill, cheat and steal elections.

I bet you think you are Ronald Regan reincarnated, ALZHEIMER’s and all.

#107 Quit acting like a panty-waist and man up. Plus, you need to work on those stale bits of “comedy gold”.

  12. Mr. Fusion says:

    #106, Poor American,

#103 Yah, I get it dude. You think he’s the most evil man in the world.

    Close. Very dangerous still.

    # 105 sac said, “Then explain how you so conveniently forgot that the years 2004, 2005, and 2006, saw record numbers of terrorists attacks around the world.”

I didn’t. This is the 1st Muzzie terrorist attack on US soil since 9/11. Took less than 6 months after O’Mama took power and started weakening the anti-terrorist measures… Fact.
