White House to Sonia Sotomayor critics: Be ‘careful’ – Alexander Burns and Josh Gerstein – POLITICO.com — FYI. The thought police are wanting you to shut up, or else.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs issued a pointed warning to opponents of Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s Supreme Court nomination Wednesday, urging critics to measure their words carefully during a politically charged confirmation debate.

“I think it is probably important for anybody involved in this debate to be exceedingly careful with the way in which they’ve decided to describe different aspects of this impending confirmation,” Gibbs said.

He was replying to a question from CBS’s Chip Reid about a blog post by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich accusing Sotomayor of imposing identity politics on the bench and declaring: “A white man racist nominee would be forced to withdraw. A Latina woman racist should also withdraw.”

Fusion, Hillary had no problem saying I’m your gal.

  2. rr says:

“I’d like to see how long a white group called “The Race” would last.”

I believe it’s meant as a unifying idea among the different Hispanic nationalities, in the way that Germans, French, etc are calling themselves Europeans.

Considering “the race” has been subject to racism by whites for generations, it’s not surprising that they self-identify as “the race” which has been a victim of the racism.

As we’ve seen in places like Northern Ireland, where a different form of racism was allowed to fester out of control, it is much, much better to get these guys into government, into our tent, so they can be part of a solution. Criminy Bobby Rush is a Congressman.

  3. brm says:

    #65:

“it is much, much better to get these guys into government”

I disagree. A separatist group getting in gov’t? Isn’t Palin’s husband being a member of such a group one of the reasons why Dems hated her?

Why didn’t they want to get them ‘into the tent?’ What’s the diff?

Oh yeah, because they’re a large voting bloc of minorities, the supposed lifeblood of (and exploited by) the Democratic party.

  4. Patrick says:

    # 61 Alex said, “there were *recordings* of him on the *phone*, Bill O’Reilly style.”

Nope. Just left wing smear machine.

If you wonder how Obama could be so stupid, wonder no more!

The part below starts around 5:45 on the vid. Obama is the CiC! What a moran.

    The transcript:

Obama: What do you do Walter?
Walter: I work at, uh, NGA, National Geospatial- Intelligence Agency
Obama: Outstanding, how long you been doing that?
    Walter: About six years
    Obama: Yea?
    Walter: Yes.
    Obama: You like it?
    Walter: I do, keeps me…
Obama: So explain to me exactly what this National Geospatial…uh…
Walter: Uh, we work with, uh, satellite imagery..
    Obama: Right
    Walter: [unintelligible] …support systems, so…
    Obama: Sounds like good work.
    Walter: Enjoy the weekend.
    Obama: Appreciate it.

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) is a Department of Defense combat support agency and a member of the national Intelligence Community!

  6. Mr. Fusion says:

    #63, Meyers,

So you think Sotomayor will decide on emotions instead of law.

So what has Scalia, Thomas, Alito, and Roberts been deciding their cases on? When Scalia repeatedly on and off the bench has said abortion is wrong, because his church says so surely should strike anyone as a bias. How about when he wrote the decision saying Minnesota’s Constitution was wrong because candidates for popularly elected Judgeship couldn’t discuss specific cases? How about when Scalia goes hunting with the defendant, a personal friend, shortly before the case is heard?

If Sotomayor is a bad candidate for the Supreme Court, then Scalia should be impeached.

  7. Mr. Fusion says:

    #66, brm,

Isn’t Palin’s husband being a member of such a group one of the reasons why Dems hated her?

Nope. It was to point out the hypocrisy of her claim to be an All American Patriot. That plus Bristols two kids, her trying to get a State Trooper fired, only reading the comics, knowing nothing of any legal matters concerning the country, etc.

Of course, the blind Palin slaves are too dazzled by her tits to see past that.

  8. Mr. Fusion says:

    #68, Cow-Patty,

And you know every detail about your popcycle stand so therefore everyone should know every detail about an organization with a couple million employees and several thousand departments, divisions, and agencies.

  9. Patrick says:

    # 71 Mr. Fusion said, “everyone should know every detail about an organization with a couple million employees and several thousand departments, divisions, and agencies.”

LOL! No, no details. Just the names of the few major intel agencies that he hears at his intel briefings on a daily basis. Since he demonstrably has no intelligence, I think they shouldn’t waste time giving him “intel” briefs. ROFL

  10. Mr. Fusion says:

    #72, Cow-Patty,

OK, so you got one on me. Here I thought you were being serious and you were just trolling again. My bad.

  11. brm says:

    #69 Fusion:

“So you think Sotomayor will decide on emotions instead of law.

So what has Scalia, Thomas, Alito, and Roberts been deciding their cases on?”

Scalia has said he doesn’t believe the Constitution can be amended to outlaw abortion.

At these guys make an effort to say that they try to keep their morals from informing judgments. That’s why I like textualists on the bench – they’re trying to determine what the law says. Period.

Can they always keep their emotions out of it? No. No one can. But I don’t want a judge on the bench who just throws up their hands and is like, “I have emotions! I can’t keep them out of my judgments and I think that’s a good thing!”

    eff that.

  12. Rick's Cafe says:

Would like to think that most sane people would agree that a white man, who belongs to the KKK and spouts that being a white male makes him better than anyone else…probably would have a tough time getting on the bench.

Given that there are so many talented jurists to choose from, why does Obama intentionally pick a fight by offering a Latin female version of the above example?

I thought Obama wanted everybody to get along – this girl isn’t going to make anyone happy except the Latin KKK, not the conservatives and definately not the liberals.

  13. Mr. Fusion says:

    #74, brm,

So being up front and honest about doing what the others already do should somehow disqualify her? What the hell did you hit your head on?

  14. Mr. Fusion says:

    #75, cafe,

I thought Obama wanted everybody to get along – this girl isn’t going to make anyone happy except the Latin KKK, not the conservatives and definately not the liberals.

Hhmmm, it seems to me the only ones against Sotomayor are the extreme wing nuts, including Boss Limpdick, Glenn Beck, and the like. Those who take a few words out of context and go with it.

The future of the Republican Party is looking better every day with the likes of these people. In a year from now the Democrats will be trotting out some of these ridiculous comments in order to help the Republicans lose a few more seats.

  15. Rick's Cafe says:

    #76 & #77
What a wonderful reflection of the liberal party….scream bloody foul for 8 years and now the shoe is on the other foot…scream bloody foul some more.

Just out of curiosity, exactly who were you referring to as – being upfront an honest? And who are the other people and what are they doing?

Your statement implies that everyone is a racist bigot..or is that just how you see life?

…don’t take offense, it must be all those hits on the head I’ve been taking.

  16. Mr. Fusion says:

    #78, cafe,

Just out of curiosity, exactly who were you referring to as – being upfront an honest? And who are the other people and what are they doing?

Are you pulling a Cow-Patty and demonstrating your stupidity? Try reading the above posts. Especially the ones referenced in the same posts you reference.

“I believe … that I can make a contribution, that I can bring something different to the Court, that I can walk in the shoes of the people who are affected by what the Court does.”

Clarence Thomas at his confirmation hearing.

Your statement implies that everyone is a racist bigot..or is that just how you see life?

No where have I suggested that. YET, that seems to be the attack mode of the right wing nuts. Over tha past few days a few of the more outrageous comments from the idiots,

LIDDY: She is a woman. Don’t be around her when she is menstruating.

LIMBAUGH: claimed is a racist who picked black men over whites because the blacks weren’t as smart.

He also compared Sotomayor to David Duke, an acknowledged racist and former leader of the KKK.

ROVE: She is a racist because she is a member of a racist organization.

    BECK: She is a racist.

Since you obviously follow right wing nut radio, I imagine you know a few more of these than I do.

Then there are the conservatives denouncing her right wing nut critics.
Ed Gillespie: “It isn’t helpfull or right to call her a racist”

Senator Jeff Sessions called Limbaugh, Beck, Rove and others’ comments “loaded words” and they are not an accurate description.

I heard a radio comment where Senator Cronyn of Texas said her comment wasn’t racist.

Senators Snow and Collins have both said she is a good candidate for the Supreme Court.

Howie Kurtz asked the pertinent question of if a white male candidate would be asked if his “whiteness and maleness” should be a consideration.

    *

Putting it all together, the right wing nuts are running out of ammunition. For the Republican Party, they are at last showing some backbone and starting to distance themselves from the extremist element exemplified by Limbaugh, O’Reilly, Beck, Dobbs, and the rest. For America, that is a good thing.

  17. Rick's Cafe says:

    #79,
Best be careful, with all those conservative sites you quoted innocent by-standers might get confused and accuse you of actually listening to the Rightwings.

And for the confusion about the upfront and honest reference – I’m sure you must have known in your head what you were talking about…
