Analysis: Shuttered Chrysler Dealers Heavily Anti-Obama In Election | Bucks Right — This thesis could be bogus, but if it holds up there will be hell to pay for the Democrats. I was personally baffled by some of the closures of successful dealerships in Washington State. Many needed rural dealers (generally Republican) were shuttered while multiple urban Seattle (Democrat) dealers were left alone. In other words the dealers were not being spread out. It made no sense to me.
An analysis of the list of Chrysler dealers closed down by the Obama-run auto maker show that many were donors to Republican candidates and Democrat rivals of Barack Obama during the 2008 election cycle.
Many observers were confused by the list of 789 Chrysler dealerships that were ordered to close their doors before June 9, as the closings seemed to follow no pattern based on sales volume or profitability. Two preliminary studies found on the Internet seem to have located a common thread: Donations to politicians and political causes at odds with Barack Obama.
A document outlining campaign contributions by various shuttered dealers is posted here.
The question remains. What was the exact criteria for shuttering one dealer over another? We have not been told.
Found by Chris Hollman.
Well hell, if they are “Republican” dealerships then good fkng riddance.
Change you can believe in!
I found this to be very untrue in the Detroit area. I know for a fact that the dealership closed down in Birmingham is very pro-obama… or they were.
Oh SNAP!!!
Chicago politics at its best, if you don’t play ball you’re out on your ass (assuming you still have one).
Well John it looks like your try-out for Fox News is a success. With analysis like this, I’m sure they’ll have a place for you at the Fox News desk.
Here’s another one – Obama secretly convinced doctors in heavily GOP neighborhoods to move to Democratic areas so that the Republican residents in the old GOP neighborhoods would die of Swine Flu.
Oh – and don’t forget this one…
Obama started a bogus war in Iraq so he could help his pals in the energy companies – oh, sorry that was Bush.
One more proof that the far right has completely lost touch with reality.
Wow, seriously? Come on – this kind of crap gives bad journalists a good name.
Don’t get so upset just because someone is speculating against you’re all knowing celebrity messiah President.
#1 your a dumbass “Well hell, if they are “Republican” dealerships then good fkng riddance.” well hell I’ll go drink another beer and watch Nascar cause I am going to join the other fellow Americans in the unemployment line.
These types of theories are always entertaining, if nothing else.
Good lord John, this has already been debunked. It is technically true that more republican dealerships have been closed than democrats, but it’s because an overwhelming majority of car dealers are republicans!
Here’s the proof: http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2009/05/news-flash-car-dealers-are-republicans.html
I have an idea. How about ACTUALLY see if there is any truth to this. I don’t get it. You people act .. be you Democrat or Republican as if your ‘people’ are incapable of being dishonest. GROW THE HECK UP! They are POLITICIANS. If you as a supporter of Obama believe this is just BS then DEMAND that it proved false. If you against the present administration and believe that there is truth to these rumors .. then DEMAND that it be proven true. In any case, it should be relatively easy to prove either way. Facts people .. facts. When you slavishly follow the party line- Republican, Democrat etc. then you are just a mindless drone. It is to be perfectly honest disgusting. Think .. have a mind of your own .. and make decisions based on rational thought and not blind obedience to whichever political deity you follow.

Missing part of the story: Analysis conducted by the office of the Gingrich.
I’m not sure that “Republican” dealerships were closed. But, I’m curious to see if dealers that frequently contibuted to Democratic candidates were given special preference.
How about the fact that businesses in small towns don’t have as many potential customers as dealers in larger towns, so the small dealers are more likely to close in harder times?
Read the 538 article #12 linked to.
The vast majority of dealership owners nationwide are republicans. Logically most of the dealerships being closed would have republican owners.
This is a faux news FUD story, simple as that.
Considering business owners tend to lean Republican, of course you would expect, statistically, to have more “Republican” dealerships closed. If say 80% of dealer owners were Republican leaning, you would expect 80 percent of the dealerships closed to be owned by Republicans if the dealership names were drawn from a hat. If the data come out to show that “more Republican-owned dealerships” than “Democratic-owned dealerships” you haven’t shown support for the claim; you have simply committed the post hoc ergo propter hoc logical fallacy AND ignored base-rate information.

Not feeling too embarrassed over this.
#17 They also have lower overhead and you may be wrong about the number of customers they can round up per $ invested.
The local neobarbs aren’t into buying what they can’t get serviced within a reasonible drive either.
Ok, all of you Democratic ObamaBots, here is an update:
“The basic issue raised here is this: How do we account for the fact millions of dollars were contributed to GOP candidates by Chrysler who are being closed by the government, but only one has been found so far that is being closed that contributed to the Obama campaign in 2008?”
Humm, let’s do the math. 789 dealerships, and 788 of them are owned by Republicans?
“Also fueling the controversy is the fact the RLJ-McCarty-Landers chain of Arkansas and Missouri dealerships aren’t being closed, but many of their local competitors are being eliminated. … McClarty is the former Clinton senior aide. The “J” is Robert Johnson, founder of the Black Entertainment Television, a heavy Democratic contributor.
A lawyer representing a group of Chrysler dealers who are on the hit list deposed senior Chrysler executives and later told Reuters that he believes the closings have been forced on the company by the White House.”
Humm, forced by the White House?
I smell impeachment! How many days now, ~120? A new Democratic record!

try looking at the control group. Car dealers in general tend to be republicans. Shocking, I know.
nice try guys. too bad it’s not actually true.
let me repeat the point of the post: “The question remains. What was the exact criteria for shuttering one dealer over another? We have not been told.”
Where is the transparency?
Ha ha… Ha ha… BWWWAAAHHHH HAHAHAHA!!!
Change… Your party… Or loose everything.
Democrats Champions of free ideas…. Unless they come from the other party. Champions of free speach… unless it promotes the other party… Champions of Fascism… Well, at least they agree with Republikans on that.
Easily believable. The Democratic party is demonstrably evil so it’s easy to believe anything about them.
I’m not generally a conspiracy theorist, unless the conspiracy can be laid to rest very easily by one of the parties involved. This one is very easily solved – simply release the criteria which was used to select which dealerships had to close. Somewhere is a spreadsheet that quantifies whatever criteria was used (profitability, sales, customer service, etc.) and it would put to rest any theory of political payback if partisanship was not a factor.
With Obama, this seems to be a pattern. The other instance would be his birth certificate. Any such conspiracy could be put to rest by him going to the supposed hospital of his birth and requesting the ARCHIVAL copy of his birth record (not the laser printed one that was shown). It’s such an easy solution that the fact that he hasn’t done that let’s suspiscion linger.
It’s been my experience that the vast majority of car dealerships (10:1) are owned by Republicans your mileage may vary.
His grandmother said she was at his birth in Kenya.
# 24 John C Dvorak said, “Where is the transparency?”
Enough with the heresy John. Off to a reeducation camp you go.
p.s. Where is the Obama site that gives spending details of the porkulous $?
