UPI – May 16, 2009:

Good-looking men and women have a greater confidence that gives them an edge in the job market, a study from the University of Florida showed.

“We’ve found that, even accounting for intelligence, a person’s feeling of self-worth is enhanced by how attractive they are and this, in turn, results in higher pay,” Timothy Judge, the study’s lead author, told ScienceDaily in a story published Saturday.

Judge and his team compared data from the Harvard Study of Health and Life Quality on 191 men and women between the ages of 25 and 75. The 191 were questioned about their education and finances, and had their pictures taken and rated for attractiveness by the Harvard researchers.

Judge’s team found people rated good-looking made more money, were better educated and felt more confident, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Intelligence, however, still proved a strong factor in determining a person’s income.

“The brainy are not necessarily at a disadvantage to the beautiful, and if one possesses intelligence and good looks, then all the better,” Judge said.

The female in the picture may have a pretty face, but the costume is right out of some Disney movie for 6 year olds. FAIL.

Seriously, in the long term, smart is more important than looks (this includes both genders).

I worked for a company division once that had a CEO who looked like the classic stereotype of a corporate leader. Unfortunately he was dumb as a post, made the wrong decisions in critical areas, and the division failed.

Uh, if I didn’t say this the LAST time you posted this claim:

Of course, it’s true. And I’m worth it.

Please SN – have a memory check.

I accept that attractive people can get away with greater risks. I would suggest that they are more likely to be given a pass for bad behavior because they are hot.

I’ve seen it happen. Many, many times.

Studies have shown that attractive people are judged to be smarter and nicer even when objective studies find that they aren’t.

    Being unatractive costs you.

Of course women with big boobs are considered less intelligent even though that isn’t true either. I think the problem for them is that those around them become less intelligent when they are around.

Three things get money to be studied. Sex, Jobs and Global Warming. So a study called “How Global Warming Effects Good-Looking People’s Jobs” would probably get the granddaddy of all grants! (sex = good looking)

But I think the premise of the article’s “study” is flawed. It assumes that attractive people are as productive or as skilled as anyone else. And let’s face it. If being attractive has opened doors for them since birth. Why should these persons have to try as hard to keep their jobs, as others? And wouldn’t they tend to be more preoccupied with their looks, than devoted to their job. I can almost guarantee that anyone who is very good looking, probably has a support team of average persons, taking up their lack. The “ugly bettys” are propping up their glamor gun bosses. Now men might hire attractive female secretaries, if the guys aren’t married, or their wives don’t mind (and maybe even if they do). But that’s usually only done by guys who haven’t a clue about hiring skilled people, because their positions are something of a fraud too. Like politicians, and lawyers. Whereas accountants hire efficient typers, bookkeepers, etc. They’re not concerned about being seen with fashion models, on their arm in public, as an indication of their success.

What it breaks down to being is this. “Good looking” people get certain jobs, not because of their abilities, which don’t have to be as good as average looking people. But because whoever is hiring good looking persons is attempting to say “I’m so successful, it doesn’t matter how many useless fashion plates I have as staffers.” Just as rich people use to show off by having the most useless breeds of dogs, that only served to impress others as to how much money was wasted on their upkeep.

I remember once some “study” that assumed that the physically fit tended to be more intelligent that others. But this was before the secret of steroids was generally known. Which is a shortcut for dumber people to look very fit and well built. Similarly, average people could have an operation to look more attractive. So they could have been successful for a time, before becoming good looking. How does this study account for this “cheating”, later in life? It’s a shabby study.
