The world’s best-equipped army has revealed one of the more closely guarded and, one must hope, private items in its armoury – pink underpants.
Scrambling to raise himself from sleep during a Taliban attack high in the Afghan hills, Zachary Boyd, a soldier with the First Brigade, grabbed his automatic gun, helmet and bulletproof jacket.
But in his haste he left behind his combat trousers – showing to the world that below the belt he was fighting in nothing more protective than “I love NY” boxer shorts…
An embedded war photographer, David Guttenfelder, took the image in the hills above the Korengal Valley, Kunar, four days ago. Thanks to the power of the internet and front-page exposure in the New York Times, it is fast threatening to become an icon of conflict photography.
Har!
Are the flip-flops GI, too?
what about the one to his right, its wearing running shoes??
So they’ll be ready to go to jail in Maricopa County, Arizona?
J/P=?
Kirk, Spock, and ensign red shirt are beaming down to Afghanistan, guess who isn’t coming back…
I would be more worried about the red top he is wearing – looks surprisingly like a big target with no chance of camoflage. (I’d hate to be the two guy next yo him)
The humiliation of being the Taliban guy who got his ass kicked by a guy in pink boxers would be just too much to bear.
Well, when you’re getting shot at, things like pants and shoes fall low on the totem pole of importance.
Didn’t he ever hear about going combat.I never wore underwear in “Nam”.It was much easier when you shit your pants to let the turds roll out your pant leg.
Can you spot the gay soldier?
#9 Darn – you beat me to it !!
Well if he craps himself it’s less the clean I suppose.
Looks like Obama’s little war is going well. NOT.
One of the reasons I don’t buy red cloths is that I found out that all to often red cloths washed with white cloths = pink cloths.
He has a red top and pink bottom and I’m guessing there is a connection.
Hmmm. Admittedly, I’m an old fart but, during that little Viet Nam thang, they issued us underwear. And briefs were the uniform of the day.
don’t ask, don’t tell
All three of them are women. Take a closer look.
For those that are making fun of them. That is terrible. These guys are fighting so that we can have freedoms. I know freedoms such as freedom of speech, but still use a little discretion.
And the guy in boxers is a man. His name is Zachary Boyd.
re:post #5, the guy next to him is probably honored and thankful to be serving with him. they were on 24 hour watch, it was Zachary’s turn to sleep, he stood up to fight the attack at a moments notice.
looks like you and a few others need to be reminded that this is the “Land of he free, because of the brave.”
