Is Rumsfeld right that the evidence shouldn’t be released? Whether it is or not, should Americans at any level who allowed it to happen be prosecuted, perhaps by handing them over to the mothers and the boys?

After Donald Rumsfeld testified on the Hill about Abu Ghraib in May, there was talk of more photos and video in the Pentagon’s custody more horrific than anything made public so far. “If these are released to the public, obviously it’s going to make matters worse,” Rumsfeld said. Since then, the Washington Post has disclosed some new details and images of abuse at the prison. But if Seymour Hersh is right, it all gets much worse.

Hersh gave a speech last week to the ACLU making the charge that children were sodomized in front of women in the prison, and the Pentagon has tape of it.
[…]
“Debating about it, ummm … Some of the worst things that happened you don’t know about, okay? Videos, um, there are women there. Some of you may have read that they were passing letters out, communications out to their men. This is at Abu Ghraib … The women were passing messages out saying ‘Please come and kill me, because of what’s happened’ and basically what happened is that those women who were arrested with young boys, children in cases that have been recorded. The boys were sodomized with the cameras rolling. And the worst above all of that is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking that your government has. They are in total terror. It’s going to come out.”
[…]
The Telegraph and other news organizations described “a videotape, apparently made by US personnel, is said to show Iraqi guards raping young boys.” The Guardian reported “formal statements by inmates published yesterday describe horrific treatment at the hands of guards, including the rape of a teenage Iraqi boy by an army translator.”

  1. Thom says:

This is an old story that got squashed. I have no comment except disgust. The torture lovers are up next to defend this, or deny it. My Lai never happened either. It’s easy to dismiss these things you have no stomach for.

  2. Mr. Fusion says:

Maybe this will be enough to get some prosecutions started. But, as Thom in #1 said, the torture deniers will still defend this.

  3. Greg Allen says:

I think this “water boarding debate” is a deliberate attempt to soft-sell the torture scandal.

Water boarding is LEGALLY AND UNDENIABLY torture but a helluva lot worse than water boarding was done under the Bush administration… all the way up to murder.

Who sanctioned it? Who knew it was happening? Who covered it up?

    I demand to know.

  4. contempt says:

How is this torture? This picture represents everyday life in San Francisco and they claim if you don’t allow it you’re being intolerant – even homophobic.

There is nothing worse than fake outrage just to promote a political agenda.

  5. GigG says:

If it happened and there is really no evidence to show it did, where are all the “we have to respect their culture crowd”? We are talking about Iraqis attacking Iraqis here. We just took pictures. Sort of like National Geographic.

  6. Grayven says:

Between this and Guantanimo, there is more than enough grounds for Obama to appoint a special prosecutor. If Obama doesn’t do this, he loses all credibility with me (meet the new boss).

  7. PMitchell says:

After seeing the exact story on digg I knew I would be top story here.
the story is 5 years old, Hersh recanted the story 3 years ago when pushed on whether he has actually seen the tape ( he hasn’t )

This is just more left wing lies and bullshit that gets regurgitated as fact by you lefties who just cant get a life

  8. Gary, the dangerous infidel says:

#4 contempt, your comment illustrates quite well the reason people like you get no respect except from your own kind. You appear to be too stupid to recognize the substantive difference between intentionally inflicted sexual humiliation and consensual sex between adults. Your nick conveys quite accurately what you continually earn from anyone who has a functioning brain and conscience.

Would you be so callous if these were Christians being humiliated by the Muslims you hate so much?

  9. gooddebate says:

Well, I can guarantee one thing, like the Borg this story will never stop. It will keep coming and coming; you’ll put up your shields and they’ll shoot shield power draining shots until they’re down; you’ll fire torpedoes and they’ll just regenerate the blown to bits parts. It will keep coming and coming and coming…

The purveyors of these stories want nothing less than assimilation of all. Make no mistake all of you moderates whether Democrat or Republican who think you can compromise to a middle ground. This story shows why the left will take over. I mean who wants to be called a “torture denier” by mister assimilation himself? They actually believe what they want is for the good of all and they’re willing to do what ever it takes, say what ever is necessary, squish who ever gets in the way in order to get this ‘good for all’ society.

  10. Thom says:

#7. “This is just more left wing lies and bullshit that gets regurgitated as fact by you lefties who just cant get a life”

Do you know this as fact? Do you also deny My Lai?
You really are a moron aren’t you? if true, will you speak out against it, or just make more excuses? I already know the answer.

  11. contempt says:

    #8 Gary, the dangerous infidel

I could care less about your respect mainly because you and your kind are a mere pimple on the backside of a goats ass.

You know nothing about the real world and can only generate lame classroom dogma. I would say wait until the next attack then you might get a clue but you will probably be dead so what’s the point.

  12. Angus says:

I’ve always found it odd that Mr. Hersch, with few exceptions, only comes out during Republican administrations to spew his anti-American and Anti-Israeli venom. Not sure if he’s ever done anything other than critisize. It’s his job to show us all how evil the United States and Israel really is.

  13. Gary, the dangerous infidel says:

#11 contempt wrote “I could care less about your respect mainly because you and your kind are a mere pimple on the backside of a goats [sic] ass.”

Well, I guess I’ve done my good deed for the day. The Jewish god you worship demanded that animals for sacrifices be unblemished, so by being a pimple on the goat’s ass, I have saved his life! Those animal sacrifices always struck me as primitive and stupid, much like you, so I don’t mind being a spoiler 😉

  14. contempt says:

    #13 Gary, the dangerous infidel

    I’ve over estimated you – you’re really a blithering idiot, aren’t you?

  15. Wretched Gnu says:

Hey libtards! Don’t you know that the *ticking time bomb* can only be defused by raping Iraqi boys in front of their mothers?

    It was on *24*, idiots!

  16. MrMiGu says:

“The next attack” has already occured….many times over. Several times your country was even playing the role of “the terrorist”

  17. Breetai says:

I’m calling BS on this one. I can see the the US Army Condoning Torture as the means to an end. But if the torture and rape of kids where involved?! If there is ANY proof of that, the Army has already likely handled the justice end of it without documentation so your not exactly going to hear about it.

  18. contempt says:

    #19 johnrudy
    >>So consensual sex between adults is EXACTLY the same as child rape?

I never said that and you know it. I stated that I don’t believe it happened and you have offered no proof that it did.

What a dink. By the way, if you are looking for pathetic try the mirror, there you will find a big sack of it.

  19. ECA says:

I wonder sometimes on WHO is responsible for our government.
we have all these folks running to represent us, we see them SUCKING up to religious persons, and saying they are honest and just. AND WHAT DO WE GET??

YES, war is hell. but HONOR and consideration for the other person, is ALSO a show of HOW “WE ARE”.

  20. Dallas says:

This is the image of American behavior that the Cheney administration burdened American presidents for generations to come.

Now Cheney has lost it. In an effort to preserve his miserable legacy, he is attacking everything and everyone. Time for euthanasia.

  21. Li says:

The proof is in the video, but if the video really shows -that- they could never release it because it would be too horrible to watch, let alone broadcast.

    Kind of a catch-22.

  22. Not-Alfred1 says:

The damage is not in the reality of this happened or not, but who believes it. And the whole Muslim world believes it. Why do you think that the Iraqi’s turned against America as their liberators, why do you think that the Taliban has reasserted control of large areas of Pakistan? Because of this type of hearsay.

In their eyes, if the conduct by American soldiers in Abu-Gharaib has been proven true, why should worse things be in any doubt? They see the US military misbehaving as ‘Liberators’ in a miriad of ways, and they assume that even worse is happening that is hidden.

If our military had been held to ‘higher standards’ by our leaders, then this whole quagmire might have never taken place. Utterly failed leadership in the form of Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld led either directly or indirectly to the hatred of US troops throughout the middle east, and severely impacted the US national security and interests for decades to come while the damage is repaired.

  23. jim says:

Wow, raping children, American really has sunk low. I wonder what those who fought and died for your country in WW2 and Korea think of you now.

  24. hazza says:

When the “good guys” start doing the same things as the “bad guys” they are no longer the good guys, shame on you USA.

  25. hazza says:

When the “good guys” start doing the same things as the “bad guys” they are no longer the good guys, shame on you USA.

The USA is starting to eat itself, DCMA, the Patriot Act, Abu Ghraib etc etc

Hello Rome… ooops I mean USA, you are too concerned with your own power and the cancer will not stop. The harder you try to surpress your own people and hold onto power the further it will get from you.

I will be around to tell my grandkids,

“I remember when the USA was the land of the free. No no, don’t laugh they were once the most powerful nation on earth… look get up off the floor and listen… dam kids”

Still no Alfred1 comments? I hate it when the Rapture happens and you don’t notice it.
