In this case the banks are forced into these actions by nearsighted small towns.

    #39, Mr. Diesel,

I like the way you think.

    😉

  2. OK. Let’s see how unpopular I can make myself today.

This actually needs to happen to large swaths of suburbia to be replaced with densely populated cities and wide expanses of farm land.

Suburbia is simply the very definition of unsustainability. We need to move to places where we can walk to the market. We need to get rid of the dead ends and cul de sacs that require driving even to go 2 blocks.

We probably even need to get rid of or dramatically reduce lawns. In short, we need to move to a more sustainable urban lifestyle.

I hope they make farmland, or better yet, forest, out of the land on which these houses sat.

  3. Oh, and it looks like The Atlantic was predicting the near future, not the far future in this article.

    #43, Scott,

As much as you are right, I do like my little piece of rural living. I have room for a garden, several fruit trees and someplace to let my kid play.

I don’t care what my neighbors are having for dinner because I can only smell it if they are BBQing. I don’t worry about someone playing a stereo loud while I’m trying to sleep. And I don’t worry that some inconsiderate person will leave their garbage outside my door or having to be careful of walking in dog shit on my way to the bus stop.

    But, you are correct.

  5. #45 – Mr. Fusion,

I never ever hear my neighbors. Once they even apologized for a huge fight they had the prior evening. We didn’t hear a thing.

On the other side, there is a small child. We’ve never heard a sound from them, except when out in the hallway.

Neighbors’ cooking smells never make it into our apartment.

The city’s pooper scooper law has been in effect for a generation and is a simple matter of course. You’d be more likely to step in shit in the burbs, if you actually could walk out your door and do anything but get in your car.

    #46 – GetSmart,

I think it has been a long time since you’ve been to NYC. Other cities are quite nice these days too. And, walkable areas, especially cities, are holding their value a lot better than the slumburbs. I think you’ll change your tune within the next decade or two.

    #47, Scott,

Good for you. When I was younger I did live several apartments in urban areas and my experience differed from yours.

Before I moved here I lived in a small walk-up, just off a major street. I loved it. A short walk to the street car which connected to the subway. I could buy almost anything I wanted or needed on that major street; food, liquor, one fine, several mediocre, and even a McDonald’s restaurant, hardware, even sex toys, florist, etc. All in Mom and Pop establishments (except Micky D). I bought groceries for a couple of days at a time instead a week or two. I could talk to an expert about what tool would be best.

Damn!!! I’m getting all melancholy remembering all that. Ah but then I had to marry and move here.

@ #17 That’s funny and sounds so true.

Geeze your breath must stick because you are so full of shit it has to be oozing out your ears.

The link you provided says NOTHING about Reich calling for whites NOT to get stimulus money.

Nor did that quote mention ACORN, or giving undocumented workers houses.

This is akin to your attempt to deny the contradictions / hypocrisies in the bible. More bullshit claims without any evidence to support them.

Where in the bible does it say that god approves your message? Because if it does, it just demonstrates what a dickhead he, and you, are.

It’s not like people live there, they’re model homes. Besides, when I hear the words “model home” all I can think of is Arrested Development. I love that show…
